Did you consider re profiling the concrete with a slight fall and digging a large soak away in the yard, possibly with a float-operated sump pump (piped to a proper drain) located somewhere near the top of the soakaway , to stop it overflowing in extreme conditions?

In your videos with HDPE pipe, I see you insert them well into the side of a catch basin. Basically you have cut a hole through the catch basin for it. For 4” HDPE, what do you use to cut the hole in the catch basin and what size do you cut. (To insert the non bell end of the HDPe pipe).

Hi - I live in San Antonio, TX next to our HOAs detention pond (i.e. - dry all the time except after a rain event). The pond also has a pump system to pump treated water to another location. For some reason that we cannot figure out, the pump will suddenly “turn off” during the draining process. Then, one of our HOA board members will come out and “press a reset button” on an electrical panel next to the lift station (cylindrical concrete structure on the berm) which will kick the pump back on for a period of time. However, the pump will still turn off and the HoA will come out and press the reset button again. Wondering what your thoughts on the root cause might be?

Would have a drainage pit with a min. 2yd washed wrapped in fabric for more ground percolation volume, and same outfall. Maybe more rock volume.

I'm in northern Ohio and am putting in a french drain around a lean-to that will store my 30HP tractor. I was planning to use 4" PVC Charlotte Drain Perforated pipe (seems to be SCH40 as far as I can tell online). But your warning about not using it where it will freeze has me concerned. Will double or triple wall HDPE hold up to the weight of a tractor? Also, anything I can do about roots getting into perforated drainage pipe? Great content, thanks so much for putting it out there!

First off, I liked this ‘real world review,’ based upon your usage and experience, as it is helpful to many that may be seeking advice or suggestions on what to invest in. I just happened upon this review, so late comment here. I will give You a thumbs up, as I already commented on the value of your video. Having said that, I must call you out @11:09. Please don't put out wrong or misleading info. Modern Lithium Ion batteries are not subject to memory issues like older batteries were. And they last longer and perform better with varied charging, and common sense usage. Heat and over use/ abuse is what kills batteries. There is nothing wrong, inherently, with your approach, but it will kill a battery sooner. By completely discharging a battery, and then putting it on the charger, it will rapid charge it at first, and will create extra heat, unless it is a fan cooled charger, which will help negate some of that. Batteries are also subject to becoming ‘unbalanced,’ despite the circuitry that is present and designed to alleviate that situation. This is not my opinion; It is based upon the current consensus, and has been my experience in the use of these modern batteries, over the past 16 or so years. ( prior to that, I used various cordless tools with NiCd/ Ni Mh batteries for over 15 years. ). I am inclined to agree with You on not leaving battery in the charger. Now I have forgot and left a battery on the charger, overnight, on occasion, with no noticeable side effects? But I generally attempt to take a battery off the charger once it is done. This is based upon various brands I own and use, which includes Makita, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Bosch, Metabo/ Metabo HPT, etc etc. It is good practice to store batteries in a controlled environment, but it is not always possible. One thing is I try to avoid exposing a battery to the Sun more than I need to when using outside, but that is not an easy thing to do. The Sun will cause the battery to become very hot. I have a Fernco adapter, and both the 3" PVC end and the 4" corrugated tile end are very hard to push in. I used a bit if sandpaper on the PVC end to get it in, still with effort, so I am not concerned leaking, but the corrugated end is no joy. Any ideas, maybe grease?

What happens if small bellies form? The water won’t cause the HDPE pipe to rot or anything, right?

Thank you for providing an educational deep dive on the different types of material and which ones should be considered for the type of application and region! As of this movement, you guys are the only ones on UA-cam to provide this level of detail on materials unlike everyone else who just shows basic installs and clips of why they prefer this basin over that basin or this pipe vs that pipe. I do believe without this video; I would have installed the wrong type of drainpipe. However, I'll be sure buy HDPE corrugated pipe since I'm in the Pacific Northwest and using it for residential. Please continue with work like this to help the DIY people and newbie contractors! 😃

Fernco to corrugated pipe must be glued on the inside. No matter how much you tighten it, water will find a way to leak out unless you seal it.

@Frenchdrainman it looks like that could be a mistake with the connection of the French drain pipe and solid pipe because if it fills up with the roof sediment and leaves it could back up into the French drain pipe. The slope doesn't show on the video so it is hard to see.

I had this system on a property I purchased, in fact it had three ground drains like this with rocks in it but none of it was working because it just silted up.
