Final Push to get this old cottage ready for the big renovation project - Ep. 104
With the power still out, I couldn't stay at the cottage for another weekend. So Dad and I went down to pack up more things that weren't necessary to have in the house, and anything that might get in the way of the builders.
Cute little Donkeys waiting for a lovely new home: ispca.ie/adoptions/tia-tamera-sophie/
Morrigan's Cottage is a 200 year old traditional stone cottage set in the west of Ireland on just under 4 acres. Originally this house would have been used by the local farmers, rented from their British landlords. Dated back to at least the early 1800s, someone has been consistently living here and farming this land since then, up until about 4 years ago when the house was left vacant by the previous owners.
Join me as I take on the challenge of cleaning up and restoring this old, abandoned cottage homestead all on my own! As a single woman, I'm turning this overgrown land and neglected cottage into a cozy, livable space. Watch me tackle everything from clearing brush and restoring the garden to cleaning the interior and breathing new life into this forgotten property.

Huge Storm Eowyn causes major damage at my Irish Homestead - did the cottage survive? Ep. 103
Переглядів 16 тис.19 годин тому
I can't say this enough, but I am so grateful that my little old cottage has survived this storm (and Storm Herminia that blew in straight after!). Someone upstairs was really taking care of my house because the damage others have seen is off the scale. Storm Eowyn was the worst storm to hit Ireland on record. 750K households were left without power, and unfortunately my little cottage is one o...
Hardest DIY Job at my Abandoned Cottage So Far! Repointing Old Stone Walls with Lime - Ep. 102

Well, the renovation has finally, officially begun. I've been wanting to get to these walls for SO LONG! I'm using NHL Premixed Lime Mortar (what i'm using was recommending by my engineer) and while this looks a bit shabby now, just give it to the next video to see what you think. It was a slow and shabby start but I definitely got the hang of it the further down the wall I went! Cute little Do...

Bathroom Renovation Goes Wrong Already?! - Ep. 100

We are now just 2 weeks out from the builders arriving, so I have been tasked with getting the bathroom pieces and tiles ready to go. All in a days work, but my back was sore after this one! A big thank you to Hitway fo...
Racing against a snow storm to winterize my old Irish Cottage - Ep 99

Ireland and snow don't mix. Old Irish Cottage with no heating and snow, don't mix even more. It was not on the bingo cards to be driving down to the cottage to get it ready for the very cold snap, but to be honest the bingo card for the last 6 or 8 weeks have been surprising. This was filmed before my Nan passed away. At that point I was definitely still hoping that she'd pull through. Thank yo...

Unfortunately it means the cottage is on the back burner until at least Jan 2nd when Morri will hopefully get the all clear. In the mean ti...

This has been one of the hardest weeks of my life. This video doesn't have any cottage footage, so if it isn't for you I understand (although if you watch youtube might give me a little ad money to go towards Morri's surgery costs). You could use the delivery pallet and timbers and storm damaged metal roof to build a small 'delivery hut' there on the concrete driveway for future deliveries of animal food/hay etc or any new building materials 😊

    I hope you take all the hinges and catches off those wardrobe doors, before you dump them, they'll be useful down the track. Also any solid timber which is becoming very expensive. Glorious looking day to be doing the heavy lifting.

    Lovely update Aisling. Your tiles are beautiful, my favourite colour. With regards to all your old wooden furniture, off cuts, broken fences, cardboard, paper and vegetation, on the 23rd June every year in Ireland you can make a bonfire as it is St. John's Eve. Fires are allowed to be lit all over the country in celebration. It might be an idea if you wanted to dispose of your unwanted permissible debris as the ash goes back into the earth. Just an idea. Cheers, J

    Morrigan's fitness center is going to keep you working out for quite some time. Loads of hard work in your future but on the bright side, it will be even MORE yours when finished. I'm not surprised some of the rock walls fell and that roof blew off the outbuildings, but you're going to make it so oozy and friendly and welcoming. Not tomorrow but over time. Thank goodness the house is pretty much undamaged and most things are repairable. It's lovely that your dad could help too.

    I was so grateful for my friends coming over today to clean up my yard after our last storm. I couldn't have done it without them. They even found a hole in the roof and patched it for me! One gust of wind was frightening and was the reason for the hole in the roof. I can't imagine how bad the storm was at your cottage. Your cottage held up so it must be very strong. Keep up the good work and try not to get discouraged. I hope one day you will be able to say " I remember that storm we had 50 years ago". The tile is beautiful!

      Really having friends around or family is such a relief, I’m so glad you had help with clean up and that’s brilliant the roof hole was patched ❤️ I’m just so glad I wasn’t at the house for the storm, it was really scary up in my parents place in Dublin so I can only imagine how scary it would have been at the cottage! The wind hit the front of the house which is the strong 200 year old part, so that really was the saving grace, if it had of hit the back I think there would have been a lot more damage

    Hi Aisling hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the builders starting, with the storm even over here in Scotland it's hard trying to get hold of roof tilers and fence repair men. Fingers crossed they give you a start date soon. The thing is thought when they do start you will really see your little cottage bloom, every week or so it will be another tick on the jobs to do list. What are your plans while the buiders are working in the cottage , will you be helping along with them or have you got plans to tackle the garden area of the cottage. Its a lot of work but it will be worth it . The cottage will be beautiful when its done. Take care of yourself and your fur babies.

    • @morrigans_cottage
      @morrigans_cottage День тому

      It’s crazy driving down to the cottage and still seeing so many house with bad damage, this really was such an awful storm! Did you lose power in Scotland? A lot of people are still without power now, I think the cottage was without for 11 or 12 days but it is thankfully back now! I think the plan is that the builders will start maybe 3rd or 4th week of Feb, so not too much longer, I’m hoping it won’t get pushed any further out fingers and toes crossed! I’m desperate to move in! But I know that Dessie and Francis are top class so the wait is so worth it! When they’re working away I think the plan is for me to not be in the way, probably most time efficient for everyone if I’m not fluting around 😂 I’m sure they’ll need me there some of the time just for decision and stuff but other than that it’s in their hands! I will go down at the weekends and film little updates on what’s been done, but I think I’ll be mostly in the garden getting that done ❤️

    • @betsy7936
      @betsy7936 День тому

      @morrigans_cottage We were very lucky, apart from broken slate roof tiles and the large patio fence there was no other damage. A big area around us did have loss of power but again we were lucky our part of the town was not affected. Ireland really did get the worst of it though the wind was horrendous according to the news, by the time it reached here it was still gale force, but still caused a fair bit of damage. The Tradesmen will be rubbing their hand with all the jobs they have that's if you can find any to come out to give you a price quote. Again we tend to use the same people anytime something needs fixed so it's just a matter waiting till they can slot us in for repairs. I bet you were dreading going down to the cottage, wondering if everything would be ok. You were really lucky it's only outbuilding roofs and fencing that was damaged , that can get fixed anytime once your all finished with your little home. All the best for when the builders make a start. Every viewer is rooting for you. You have a nice bunch of subscribers.

      You know what I’m loving it! It’s hard graft and sometimes my body (mostly my back) complains for a few days after, but I just love the challenge and the process of making the place my home! It was brilliant to have dad there to help though, it’s much harder on my own! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the journey and that you like seeing what happens, I love saying welcome to Morrigan’s cottage ❤️❤️❤️

      Hope you’re compensating your little “project manager” well. She takes her job seriously, good help is hard to find, what a grand little girl she is!💋

    I got tired just looking at you both dragging all that stuff about, fair play. Can't wait to see the progress once the builders start.

      I was doing a lot of self doubting on the wall, but I love it! I am at the cottage today and it looks even better now, so I’m delighted with it, and very tempted to keep it exposed! ❤️
