Muhle R89 Closed Comb Safety Razor Review
Переглядів 4,9 тис.5 років тому
Review of the Muhle R89 - an entry level 'old school' safety razor with single razor blades. 'Closed comb' means no notches along the edge - so less blade exposed - makes it a little safer than open comb. Great shave - super close - but you'll need to change the blades more regularly and will need to factor in an extra minute or two to take it just that little bit slower to avoid any nicks.

    Received my Leaf Thorn today .. Damn what a nice shave! So did a full head shave ... about 4 day's growth . Used their (Leaf) preshave oil . Used Leaf single edge razor blade included in the package . Tabac shaving cream Absolute smooth shave! Felt no blade! Very efficient .. only had to do 2 passes! Just glided over my head! Only con .. handle is very slippery .. like in very! Had to wipe my hand continuesly during the shave. You want a good grip not to cut / nick yourself! Concern: some wetshave channels reported sqeeking when you turn the handle loading the blade after a few months. One even opened the razor up with some specialised tools ... mmm .. not in my mechanical skill set to do that! And .. found a lot of gunk and corrosion on the inside bits!! 😳 I do have the Leaf 3 blade razor and love it. My 1st impression of the Thorn: very impressed! Just hope the concern above don't cross my path!!

    The exfoliating feature might not be suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin.The Gillette Labs exfoliating razor offers an innovative approach to shaving with its built-in exfoliating bar. However, its higher price point and limited user experience data might make it less appealing to some consumers.

    Let me know when someone produce a razor with a 7 or even 10 blades...until that all such 5 blades are small diferences...I first time more than 20 years ago tryed a Wilkinson Sword with 3 blades and was very impressed, over then mostly produced rasors with a 2 or only one blade...later I passed on Gillete Mach 3 and Mach 3 Turbo...stayed with a Gillete all over these 20 years,never back to Wilkinson,not because it's a bad,mostly I use on Gillete,..few years ago I passed from 3 blades to 5 Fusion Priglide razors, was satisfied with that and now I bought a Gillete Lab...I don't notice a much difference between Proglide and Lab...ok first time I shaved with a Lab,and don't feel any single hair on my face,..maybe mostly because blades are a new...anyway,point is there is no much differences...in 5 blades...

      Thanks for your comment. Yeah, it has been an interesting progression over the years. I only started looking for the perfect shave when I couldn't get sensor blades any more. I think I notice a difference between 3 and 5 blades. But it is also down to the size and flexibility of the head. Some 5 blades just feel too wide to me. Anyway. Like everything else, it's a very poor shave compared to the results you get with a cutthroat razor. It's easy to see why - there's nothing between you and the blade, where these cartridges have guards and things so you can't get close to your skin.

    • @sharpshaves
      @sharpshaves 4 місяці тому

      Yes. Absolutely. I've only ever had a cutthroat shave at a barber. But it is the closest by far. The more blades and goo bars and the bigger the head, then its harder to get that lovely close feel. Cheers for the comment
