    Hmm what a shame. I had a bad feeling about Wilds with how much the trailers focused on the cinematic story aspect and hearing about focus mode, it just didn't seem like a good mechanic. I didn't play the beta but the way it removes the angle and turning aspects of positioning and having it do so through strange button inputs does sound less satisfying. I'm sure Wilds will still be a good game with some good fights overall as Capcom is very skilled at delivering this kind of high budget action with deliberate timings and animations, but I don't like the way the series is heading just judging from the trailers of Wilds. What did you think of Rise? It definitely feels like more of a spinoff with its focus on flashy action and I wouldn't want every entry to be like this but I found myself surprised at how much I enjoyed the raw gameplay and new mechanics of the weapons in that game with the endgame Risen monsters offering some really excellent fights.

    • @GehrmanGaming
      @GehrmanGaming 5 днів тому

      I'm totally with you on Rise. I found myself not really enjoying it while I was progressing through the village/ low rank content. Your hunter is so ridiculously strong with the wirebug skills + wirefall, while the monsters are only slightly more aggressive compared to previous games. My friend and I finished low rank with 0 faints across all quests. Then as we got into Sunbreak the gameplay started to make more sense. Monsters could finally keep up with your overtuned moveset. Except for Wirefall. I think Wirefall puts your hunter at a level of power that nothing in Rise is equipped to deal with. It kinda breaks the combat, so my friend and I just stopped using that mechanic altogether. But overall, I liked the gameplay. I wouldn't want a Rise 2, but as a one-off thing it offers a very unique take on Monster Hunter.

    That's why we should really differ horror, survival-horror, and action-horror. Horror is type of game which you just run away from all your problems. Survival-horror gives you slight chance to fight back, sometimes as a last resort. And there's action-horror, just your regular TPS/FPS game with spooky setting and monster in it, kinda like RE4

    amazing video, glad you got around to bunker! loved the game and darkwood. I've been really enjoying my time with Outlast Trials since to me it's the compromise of combat and no combat, while the OG outlasts bore me these days. fun on 1st playthroughs, but they quite literally are railroad experiences later. haunting ground, a ps2 game is I think one of the best of "mostly run away" horror games due to its combined elements - protag being a vulnerable character, fixed cameras, etc

    Yes, I loved this game and Im not a big horror game fan. The Bunker is not only fun but horrifying. Probably the most fun I have ever had in a horror game, while still having a panic attack every second. To top it all off, it has a interesting story!

    After playing the dark souls games most people who complain about elden ring just want ds3 again its nothing wrong with that but this game isnt dark souls it elden ring and as many complaints i seen on elden ring no matter how well the video is made it always comes down to dark souls did it this way so any other way is bad

    • @GehrmanGaming
      @GehrmanGaming 26 днів тому

      I couldn't disagree more. I think Elden Ring is too much like Dark Souls 3, not too little. They designed an open world, but still kept most parts of the games structure from Dark Souls: We are a Tarnished/ Ashen One exploring a dying world where the entire history happened in the past. There isn't really a lot of direct storytelling in the game. The lore is cryptic. The quests are cryptic. You explore dungeons, get from checkpoint to checkpoint, and fight a boss at the end of a level. We want to find the Shardbearers/ Lords of Cinder to eventually become the Elden Lord/ Lord of Cinder. You can describe both games at the same time because they are so similiar. Elden Ring follows the same structure, but now the good boss fights and cool locations to explore are spread further out from each other. And I think the gameplay happening inbetween is pretty bad. I wish Elden Ring was completely different from Dark Souls.

    Even though I don’t play switch axe much you hit the nail on the head when it “it feels incomplete”. The same I think about insect glaive. It feels unfinished and confused, it’s a weird hybrid that I wasn’t enjoying. I did love the hunting horn though so I’ll still be buying the full game even if I might not put a zillion hours into it like I did with past games.

  • @biltre271
    @biltre271 Місяць тому

    Regarding the weapon switching and loadouts, IIRC the devs said in an interview that the “offensive skills” will be limited to the weapons, while the rest will be relegated to the armor set proper. Unfortunately, I can't remember the source, so take that with a grain of salt. And for some info on other weapons, Lance seems really sluggish and over reliant on focus mode and Hunting Horn, despite some great additions, got rid of directional encores - one of the most iconic parts of its move set - and introduced a divisive mechanic in the form of bubbles.

    • @GehrmanGaming
      @GehrmanGaming Місяць тому

      Yeah, I've also read the same thing somewhere. But honestly, I just can't see that work out. 80% of our builds is made up of offensive skills. Would the weapon just come with 10 jewel slots in Wilds? What about skills like stamina surge which increases our stamina regen by 30%? You could make the case that thats more of a defensive skill. But a Dual Blades loadout absolutely needs that skill, while the Switch Axe couldn't care less. I guess we'll see but my impression is that the sweapon swap feature will not see a lot of use.

    I started playing MH:World for the first time recently, I have to say I understand the issue but it's also a big pain point for me when I'm just playing the game for the first time. Missing the big end of combo attack of my hammer because the enemy just wobbles a little bit just feels shit. I get its part of the skill curve to just learn to deal with it, but I feel it's way more honest game design to make basic actions feel more fluid and in response creating enemies that are better at fighting you.

    • @GehrmanGaming
      @GehrmanGaming Місяць тому

      Thats fair. World did allow for small adjustments of around 90 degrees, which feels to me like the perfect sweetspot to correct small imperfections. The 180 degrees (or maybe even full 360 if you up the sensitivity) of Wilds, just goes too far for me to the point that I just stop thinking about my position relative to the monster. It's going to be fine either way. I could see this as a feature to attract a new audience. But then there are also the horrible controls of focus mode which feel about as bad as the camera did on the old PsP Monster Hunter games so I don't know...

      I would agree that Hunt is in a bit of a downturn currently. It feels like new issues are coming up at the same rate as they are fixing them, so the quality of the game is stagnant while the major issues like trade windows and performance aren't adressed yet. We got the feature to set a preference for the health chunks of recruited hunters - search bars are unusable because the keybinds still work while you type. The spear got finally nerfed - bullet penetration became extremely convoluted because it now depends on the bullet type + damage of the weapon. I still stand by my statement that Hunt is the best fps game. The core mechanics are fantastic! I'm curious which fps game you would consider better.

A bit strange that they gave it a unique animation because it does trick your mind into thinking it is faster.

I’ve also found that he can sometimes do his grab in a summon, and if he does, he’s invincible that whole animation. Like 15 seconds where he’s just standing there and yet can’t be damaged at all. Possibly the only decent reason to summon for this fight because summons were totally useless in this fight because they can melt quick - yes, even high level mimic - and often spend a lot of time running around to ensure they are right in the target zone, getting knocked down only to run right back into the hit zone again.

    I love how you also included titanfall 2 in the first 2 minutes, another one of my favorite, relatively obscure shooters

    This is probably the best critique of elden ring out there, you perfectly captured all my gripes with the dlc

    Damn, finally someone i totally agree with especially on the bosses. In my no summon run ive been punishing bosses hard by being aggressive. Even if youre not dodging everything it feels more epic that way. You're trying to give them a hard time while they are doing the same. Its super fun. Just give them hell. Also I think you can dodge the combo from radahn with a backstep, forward roll, backstep. Don't quote me on that tho

      Thanks! Yeah I think full out aggression is the best approach to Elden Ring boss fights. It's significantly easier if you just shut them down through repeated stance breaks and it's also the most fun way to play the game imo. For the Radahn combo, I've only seen it work if you use the 'Fine Crucible Feather Talisman' that increases your I-Frames on backsteps. On a base level, I'm pretty sure the backstep does not have enough I-Frames to clear the first swing so you always get hit.
