    You were throwing that BMW around quite well. It's all about getting the front tyre choice right. Enough knobbles and low enough psi. What pressures did you have? I reckon you could have gone down to 15 psi and turned that thing into an absolute tractor round the bends.

    • @anidiotonboard6539
      @anidiotonboard6539 7 днів тому

      @motomoto2296 Thank you 😊 I didn't feel like it at times. Felt like I was really fighting it at some points. To be honest, I was running stock road pressures with Mitas E07+ tyres on. Or Enduro trail as I believe they are called now. I always run road pressures due to hopping from lane to lane etc and most of them being rocky or shale etc. I suppose though thinking of it, at somewhere like ABR, predominantly grass, what you've said makes sense. 🤔 Will give it ago next time. Thanks for the tip. 👍

    I've yet to find the perfect tent. Everything is a compromise. Like you said, that the ones with black-out interiors are great. Although, I have noticed that they are sods when you are trying to find something in the sleeping area that you've lost, especially dark-coloured things. I've tried loads. I even had the Galaxy 300 which although they seem to be the unicorn for motorcyclists, it just didn't gel with me. Teepees have lots of advantages but it does feel a bit odd when you're the only one with one on the trip :) and they're bloody noise when the wind ramps up. My current Kobuk Valley 2 tent ticks all the boxes, but like you I'm a bit long and my feet touch the sides. I took a big one with me to the ABR this year, my old Outwell Birdland. Load of room, taller than me but 13.5 kgs. The one tent I have the fondest memories of was one of first ones, a Khyam Biker. Really quick to set up with that mechanism, but that same mechanism broke quite soon. A guy I met at the ABR swore by his Lone Rider. The search goes on ...

    • @anidiotonboard6539
      @anidiotonboard6539 7 днів тому

      @ianowen4481 and that's just it. Compromise.......if you want under 100 quid then you are going to suffer somewhere. The lone rider tents with the big open porch bit that you can park your GS in 😉, look great, but theyvare heavy and pack down large, not to mention the price tag. Your teepee was fantastic, but it looked like you were carrying a body round on the back of your bike 🤣🤣 I have fond memories of that trip. For me this ticked all these boxes; Sub £100 Space for me and gear (it's a 3 person) Porch to cook in Sub 5kg Smallish packed size Fairly versitile Cons however are; No blackout (if it bothers you) Ends of the 'tunnel' touch the inner in abit of wind Longevity?? 🤷‍♂️ I can't really think if much else wrong to be honest. It's all positive at the moment. Only time will tell.

      @kenbrooks7794 it was indeed. Was nice to see a few other funduros there too. Custard did ultimately bring a smile to my face and slowly slowly I got more and more comfortable. Come the Sunday, I was having lots of fun. On our 2nd round of the TRF trail (which I didn't film), I was beginning to slide custard bum around the corners and counter steer with the front like a flat tracker. It was great fun and something I want to practice more. Unfortunately now however, custard is off the road again due to the electrical issue. I have nothing, no indicators, brake lights etc etc. I doubt I'm going to get rime to sort it before my TET trip and the end of the month. Most likely I am going to have to take the Big Girl......my Pan America. :)

      @anidiotonboard6539 Yep she gives you a hard time for sure! I'm pleased that you started to bond with it a bit, I'm still convinced that there's potential to be a far better bike than the 450 Himmi ( but then I would say that I guess, as I'm a fan of elderly BMs....) 😉

    • @anidiotonboard6539
      @anidiotonboard6539 16 днів тому

      @kenbrooks7794 I can't say I don't agree with you. The potential is there for sure. I've got a secret project I'm scheming at the minute to see if I can bring a little technology to custard to do something in the future, so I'm keen to get him back on the road. The 450 himi is great, and I saw one getting smashed around the track and jumping at ABR, but that was a professional world class enduro rider doing it. Your average Joe wouldn't manage that. Although I'm still not 100% on it. I think I expected too much of it and was let down. For me, the perfect bike needs to be a blend of old school and new age. Custard with no electrics, kept running, smashed the weekend and got me home. If the same scenario were to happen on the new 450 himi, or even my Pan America or any other 'new age' bike, it'd be dead in the water. Imagine an old school thumper like custard, cable throttle, cable clutch, etc. (easy to repair) but with some rider aids such as Traction Control. That would be awesome 👌 and when it all goes Pete Tongue, like custard did. Then all you loose is your TC. On alot of New age bikes, all the throttles are fly by wire. I.e electronic with no cables. Eeek, imagine if that stopped working. Your buggered.

    Good afternoon young Christopher/Christian. It pleases me greatly that Custard seems to be sorted, and thankyou for the mention. I'm very much of the same mind regarding panniers Lomo softies if there's off-road involved, but when it comes to longer road-trips aluminium is king ( gotta have somewhere for the stickers!) Cheers, and hope you had a good ABR. 👍

But you'll have to wait till the weekend to see that one 😉 Panniers are a huge argument point usually. But for me I like both for different reasons as you do. Both have their benefits and annoyances. 💪

    • @anidiotonboard6539
      @anidiotonboard6539 Місяць тому

      I use a Scorpion ADF 9000 air. It's a great helmet, probably the best I've ever owned. I was set to get an Arai Tour X 4 but preferred this to it. The goggles I'm using are 100% racecraft gen 2 goggles. Really comfortable, don't tend to fog up (unless it's raining heavy) either. Goggles wise, if you have an MX shop near you, get down there and try on the goggles with your helmet. You need to try and find some with a wide view so they don't cut into your peripheral vision and create blind spots. Hope that helps. 😁

      @@anidiotonboard6539 awesome, whilst you were writing your reply I was checking out the visor flip thingy on the left-side, as I only saw for a brief second before your hand blocked the view and whisked it away :) Currently rocking the Scorpion Exo Tech Evo, which is ok, but not comfortable for sound at higher speeds. @anidiotonboard6539 Місяць тому

      @hensola ahh no worries. The little lever is for an internal sun visor. Incant comment on that to be honest as I used goggles all the time. The noise level of my ADF without earplugs is the same as my old LS2 with earplugs. So it's pretty quite. Still get some noise as you'd expect but it's certainly not horrendous. I did loads of research and watched lots of reviews before getting it and it came in the top few or top of the list most of the time. As I said it works well for me. Try a few on in your local shop, see what works for you, then look up some independent reviews etc. See how they fair. As I mentioned with the Arai, loads of folks rave about it. I hated it, I felt so claustrophobic in it. It just wasn't right for me. For the cost (beig the most money I've ever spent on a skid lid) the ADF had been great value for me. 👍

Funny you say that about Custard, I was looking at specs comparative to the new 450 himi. Surprisingly the fundro wet weight is around 186kg if I remember rightly. The new 450 is 181kg dry. So ergo it's a heavier bike....go figure. The funduro makes me smile. It reminds me of the original 411 himi I so many ways. Characterful, robust, simple and plods, but with the little bit more oomph etc. It's got right under my skin. Niggles and all!

    Just curious what sorted the issue but you're welcome for any help. I think the lightness of these bikes are it's strength, you're never fatigued regardless of the mileage, within reason and the engine just pulls. I've had dozens of bikes and am at this moment sitting thinking will I take the boxer for a run or the 650. I want to take the 650 but the boxer needs a tank of fuel though with redex to clean the injectors. Will see. Although the 650 has been running uber hot since I fitted the new plugs, like no colour scary hot, I think Halfords made a booboo with these plugs, I'll need to do some further investigation so have fitted the old ones for now and the bikes running spot again, although needs further than work and back to be 100% sure :) Anyway, brilliant to hear you've sorted it with our help. So nice to hear, although I'm sure you'd have figured it out.

      I think it was a dodgy fuse. The 20Amp fuse coming from the positive output of the reg wasn't popped, but it was extremely corroded. It was allowing me to turn on bike and start it etc, but wasn't charging. I cleaned up the holder and replaced the fuse as it was corroded and fell to bits when I removed it. It's now charging, although it doesn't go over 13.6v regardless of engine RPM, but its charging so I kinda don't want to fiddle with it too much. You guys, in particular yourself really gave alot of help especially with ideas, fault finding, how to test the reg etc. If it stops charging again, I have a few more ideas and things to try now before going out and buying a new reg. So thank you again. It's apreciated.

Had oil and filters done + a 'health check'. Within 20 miles of him leaving, his clutch slave cylinder failed. Ok, it could be a coincidence, but I've heard too many stories like this. Hopefully yours will stay all good. 👍

    Hi Chris, I've had problems like yours on a couple of bikes where the stator readings are fine but reg/rec output is not. The problem has always been the connector between them. Basically, the connectors break down which causes resistance which leads to overheated, damaged wiring. Cut the wires back to get rid of the damage and then solder the wires together instead of using a connector will stop this problem repeating. These annoying block connector issues are a common fault. Unfortunately the damage to the wiring can then cause damage to the reg/rec but usually not. Solder the wires, run your voltage tests again and you should be ok.

    yes, the green wire is basically an on/off switch but is quite important because the bike was using the battery to run everything, including the coils and CDI, spark.

  • @JamesMcCreadie71
    @JamesMcCreadie71 2 місяці тому

    Yours looks like the wrong reg/rec. I'm still investigating it but believe and am happy to be corrected that the green wire is a sense wire and tells the reg/rec to let charge out to all the circuits including the battery and yours is wired to the ground and not the ignition. You'll notice a broken terminal next to the red/white from the reg, that's where the green wire should go up to the ignition. Was there a red/white to the battery from the loom, I didn't notice one but to be honest couldn't see properly. Anyway a new reg/rec should sort it because it'll plug in correctly.

    • @anidiotonboard6539
      @anidiotonboard6539 2 місяці тому

      I think you are correct. I have done more research on the forums etc since doing this video and that is the conclusion I have come to. I will be tracing all the wiring and wiring it up as per the wiring diagram from BMW to see what happens. There is a wite spliced directly into the positive from the battery but I am not entirely sure what that is. Its another one I need to trace and track where it goes. I'm pretty sure it's not the original reg, but that doesn't supprise me. Cheers for your input. Gives me somewhere to go. 👍

    • @JamesMcCreadie71
      @JamesMcCreadie71 2 місяці тому

      It should be a red/white from the loom and it should have a clear pink sheath over it. That’s the charging wire from the reg rec. you may need to slice the loom open to see what’s going on. It’s amazing that all these important wires are all spliced together 4 and 5 at a time. Have always found that odd but bmw thinks that’s fine and other manufacturers do to do whom am I to question them. A side point but also a failure point. I’m saying that because that’s the case with both the red/white and green from the reg/rec and when I inspected mine when I first got the bike, the green was loose at the junction inside the loom.

    • @anidiotonboard6539

    Electrics are a mystery to me so I’m no help to you, but while you are correcting problems you also need to do the maintenance bits, i.e, when you cleaned up the earth connecting point you should have put something on the all the parts to keep corrosion at bay in future - Vaseline will do. It saves similar problems down the line. Also try to avoid ‘just slapping on yet another new part till the problem goes away’ - that gets expensive very quickly and you never learn what the problem really was. Hope Custard is soon up and running and being a ‘good boy’. Les

Just unfortunately there's a few teething issues. HD are working on them and the bike improves year on year. It's a brand new never been done before motor, so there will be issues. To their credit, they are replacing it under warranty. Unfortunately though, I dont know whether I've lost trust in it now or not. The innova will be wicked.
