Hey there, huge Saturn fan here, played mine a lot back in the day and its just pure nostalgia for me. I love talking Sega but only openly and honestly - that said, I really really love your honest and open reviews, just listened to this and your Shinning the Holy Ark reviews, and although I do love those two games, I nonetheless think they are so overhyped. They are far from being "master pieces" and are in fact very flawed games. And I have to say, although those two games are very close to me, I actually agree with everything you had to say about their short comings. Honestly, playing the Saturn now is like a time machine, I can literally go back to the 90s and it just makes me so happy. However I cant fathom why any zoomer would care about these old games, like come one they look like garbage and the gameplay is primitive. Like you have Spiderman 2 and the PS5, have fun with the console and games of your time and leave these old games to the fond memories of old farts. Anyways sorry for the rant, keep being honest, love your reviews.

An interesting version, but the worst way to play this game. The longer loading times, the worse graphics, and the sound compression compared to PS1. I legit didn't even know about this version until recently.

How virtua striker 1 was never developed for the Saturn I'll never understand

Really do miss the 90s when multiple publishers released sports games so there was always choice. Now they seem to have accepted that only one publisher should release for a particular sport as it is considered the best and generates the most money. Even EA dropped the sports that 2K were selling more of to stop any kind of competition. I was never much of a fan of the Striker games myself though even though my friend was on the SNES but even he didn't want this game as he felt it wasn't advanced enough to consider.

Agree and disagree with a lot of this. Graphics, yes sprites aren't amazing but the pitches and stadiums are. And on PS1 at least, it's locked 50fps, so smooth! Sound is poor and tackles are not good and it's too fast. But, the gameplay, so much depth! No other football game at the time offered the sheer amount of controllable passes, shots, headers etc. You can play some amazing football once you get used to it. Oh, and you can run with the ball. You have to press two buttons together. I think it's kick and pass. (Square and Cross on PS1)

Magical sound shower on outrun is an absolute banger! tho the Pal release of the sega ages collection was poorly optimized outrun in paticular plays a bit diffrent from the arcade and the NTSC versions due to the way they optmized the clock for Pal it dose not run correctly at either 50 or 60hz and makes the game harder as a result

Losing my save 6 hours in and being forced to start over ended up making me appreciate and love the kind of speed in which you can utilize to play through it

Great to see you got Pandora's Tower, one of the three big Wii RPG's that came out around the end of the console's run.

I had the exact same thoughts when I played it for the first time. It's so utterly unplayable and terrible. Truly one of the worst games ever I've ever played.

My biggest problem with 2097, either version, was it was to easy to win, I unlocked everything on pretty much my first play of the game. That said I again found the Saturn version better to control. Again as with the original Wipeout on the Saturn, the music in 2097 on the Saturn was more fitting the gimmick of licensed tunes, which as I mentioned in the previous review, the licensed ones didn't really blow my skirt up, so I was glad they stuck with the Saturn only ones!

Wipeout XL plays considerably better than 2097 on the Saturn (same game but 60hz)

Last Bronx had double the resolution and double the framerate. That wasn't mentioned.

Usually agree with these reviews but Saturn WipEout 2097 is quite poor compared to the PS version - Terrible frame rate - Low colour pallet - Dithered transparency - Too dark - Less responsive controls - Meh soundtrack - Sponsor changes don’t match game’s aesthetics (Argonaut logo etc)

This must of been a nightmare to port from the ps1 considering the Saturn has very diffent architecture from the ps1 the guys Psygnosis,Tantalus and Perfect Entertainment did great job.

Fun video. It's a good version of 2097 but for me the PS1 version is a fair bit better. I like the music of the Saturn version though, although again PS1 just edges it. But the original game trumps both in terms of music for me! I think it's just the frame rate that lets it down on Saturn. It's far from bad but it's just not quite there. I mention this because I have owned the PS1 version from release but if you had a Saturn only, it's a must buy.

I was always more of an F-Zero X guy. You wanna talk sense of speed? That puts Wipeout to shame.

The game that came out in the US as Wipeout XL. I heard it's because they thought that us Americans would think that 2097 would have been a sequel number and not year number. lol I mean, it is a little insulting but I can't deny that there are those stupid enough to think that. But I digress. Wipeout 2097/XL is a classic on either system. I didn't know it came out for the Saturn, but it's because it never released in the US, just Europe and Japan.

1. Sega Rally 2. The Need For Speed 3. Outrun 4. Daytona USA 5. Road Rash Wipeout 2097 is an excellent racer, but better on PS1. I prefer the PS1 soundtrack also.
