The difference between him being turned and Tav/Durge being turned is the manner of how it happened. Astarion was left alone in a coffin, 6ft under in the dirt. He had to claw his way back to the surface - terrified and alone. He was also met with cruelty every step of the way throughout his life as a Spawn. Astarion also didn't willingly seek to be a vampire. He was beaten within an inch of his life and Cazador gave him the choice to become a vampire or die. Tav/Durge willingly asks Astarion to turn them. Astarion is with Tav/Durge for every second of their transformation, insuring they will not be alone and afraid the way he was when he was turned. Astarion makes it a point to give Tav/Durge an incredible last night alive so that their transformation will be associated as a happy memory rather than the traumatic nightmare he went through. Unlike Astarion, Tav/Durge wakes up from their transformation in a comfortable room with their lover by their side. Also unlike Astarion, Tav/Durge is not turned into a Spawn - they are turned into a Vampire Bride. Astarion tells Tav/Durge that during their transformation he granted them some of his own blood - thus turning them into a true vampire.

I wish the game would let you call him out on his bs if you listened to this specific act 1 dialogue. Making someone go through the same process that traumatized you so much is really messed up. The asshole in me just wants to ask if he felt the 'pleasure more than the pain' when Cazador turned him 👀.

Just realized I bought the worlds most expensive dating sim, and I don’t regret it one bit. Spawn Astarion > Ascended Astarion!!

Astarion might be one of the few Vampires I actually like, because he went through a lot of bs and still conserved his humanity (at least this is what he did in my Playthrough.)

imagine playing this, going though this story with this wonderful writing and acting and then playing dragon age Vailguard with its tumbler millennium current day underdeveloped teenager dialog and pathetic story.

I was not understanding Astarion's process enough in my 1st run. I was test-romancing Mizora(& Halsin) to see what Astarion would say, I truly am surprised by Astarion being so hurt by my actions, or why he felt okay to Halsin's approach. I am still trying to understand his though process on what made him fell for Tav, but I definitely fall for him more after understanding him. Astarion is my baby girl, and I will protect him at all costs.

Never was a fan of Astarion this might be the beginning of a change.

I really, really don’t like the way him being compelled to do awful things during VAMPIRIC ENSLAVEMENT is compared to Tav making bad/mean choices of their own free will. He even kind of does it himself. It’s just not the same thing. Even just a regular slave listening to their enslaver isn’t the same thing as consciously making a bad choice. It’s survival mode. Astarion actually can take the moral high ground here because while he’s done a lot of horrible things, during mind controlled slavery, cheating wasn’t one of them.

He does still love you. Astarion will always- spawn or ascended- lash out when he feels powerless. If you betray his trust or his love, he will act like he NEVER loved you, like he NEVER had feelings for you- when it reality, he did develop feelings for you and loves you deeply. While he does have dialogues that make it seem as though he doesnt love you as ascended Astarion, he still does- and im not just saying that because I like Astarion. It's all a facade, an act. He finally feels powerful for the first time in his life- but every now and then he slips up and lets the cracks show for a moment. He is still the same Astarion, he just acts like a cocky brat and a monster because he wants people to know he is powerful now. But he does still love you more than anything in the world. He COULD have made you a spawn, but he made you his bride. He toys with the idea, of course, so you THINK youre a spawn hes graciously gifted free will- because, again, he wants to keep that sense of power he has for the first time in two hundred years as a slave- you can tell when he tells you that you were his mad love, that he will miss you for the rest of eternity if you leave. He just doesnt want to show weakness. Because he fears winding up in the same spot. So no, hes not gonna be a good person anymore- but he's still the same Astarion. Just... doing what he feels like he has to do to keep that power.

Awesome edit. Not really on topic but couldn't help myself... as a German I can't get over that aweful German translation... 😂😂😂 Who did that? Did they actually pay someone to do that or was it AI generated? Even when they are at the point "I want to be with you" MC still speak like he's a total stranger (with an uber polite form of addressing people that you don't know or that are your elders etc). Like they call their lover they had sex with Mr X or Mrs X. No intimacy, closeness or "lets use our Christian names" since we seen each other naked. 😂😂😂 Far too stiff and unrealistic... Now I have to go and see if there's any syncs (and hope sincerely not, can't imagine, lol... Edit: No gladly there aren't any. (And deleting that weird double posting 😂).

I decided to do a Bhaal chosen/ ascended playthrough... After the ceremony, and his change, I hated it so much I was being petty, like getting garlic in his backpack or making him run around sunlight and fire, and even if it was only roleplaying, and a game it almost made me want to stop the run... Thankfully Halsin saved me, and i was able to break up with Astarion by saying "I have self-respect" and now I feel a lot better, loved, even if i havent told him yet that i'm bhaal's chosen and i will destroy the world... maybe 😅
