This channel is about the love of wristwatches. But let me put it like this with a wry smile (hoping you can take it): I’m not here to save time for you. I’m here to waste your time completely, and waste it on some utterly meaningless hobby like “watches”. There is far, far more important things to do in the world. Take care of your kids, make a living. Make the world a better place. But when we dare to take a break from those most noble of pursuits, and indulge in something completely meaningless like watches, we like to get into the details, repeat our points and roll ourselves in the mud. Why we got so darn interested in watches we cannot explain. It’s just an infliction and we like it. So I’m here to waste your time :-) Now, go and give your kids a hug and create something meaningful.

Love this watch and it's one in my collection that I'll never part with. Personally I like the bezel action on mine. Top quality.
WHAT ARE THE SPECS OF THE SUB MIL ?
49mm L2L is way too long
I am with you on the 39 mm wearing better. I have owned both, but I sold the 42. Imo, wears a little big on my 7 3/8” wrist.
Thanks for your rewiu.
3 years later and this is still one of my favorites. It was my first luxury purchase and it was because of you. I own more expensive pieces, but this exact Nomos means more to me than all of them. I wish you continued with your channel, but I’m grateful for the vids you’ve made, especially this one. 😎👍🏼
Hi UltraDoug. Thank you for your kind words. I’ve been busy and have not maintained my channel. But I keep collecting watches, so I might just start publishing more content - just a bit here and there. Your words may just be the push I needed :-) And the Nomos: I forgot to use it for a while, but then I fell in love with it again last year. There’s just something stylish about it. Anyway, thanks UltraDoug!
Hi 👋 please 🙏 check out the MWC 300m sub quit similar, have mine on a tropical strap with Rolex spring bars . Have it a year now absolutely beautiful
Fantastic review, I just picked up the 39mm , I will be putting it on a NATO like most of my watches,
Great review and rationale You just squeezed my finger on the trigger Thanks so much 👍
Great. Hope you’ll like it. I myself are also tempted by the relatively new 39mm club with sunray dial. This looks great too.
I was about to buy a Tudor Ranger with a NATO strap now I'm in doubts :) Any ideas? The price is one point... what about the movement? thx
Welcome to the club. If you are genuinely interested in watches, then you are often in doubt: This watch or that watch? Movement, price, design, versatility, and how to weight these things. Only you can do that, by your own standards. Good luck
If you scratch the crystal will PolyWatch work on it...?
That is also a question I have. I’ve seen people claim that polywatch does work on glass, so I’m hopeful. But I haven’t tried it myself.
I'm happy that you got a watch you like in the size that works for you. I have 8 1/2" wrists and the 39 would look like a ladies watch on me. I have the Steinhard Ocean One 42mm which fits well, but comes in second to my Panzera Flieger 46 which is perfect on me and the watch I waited a long time to find. It is 52mm lug to lug which suits me fine. I can appreciate the sentiment as an homage piece.
Got several Squale watches. Love them all! ❤
Appreciate the strap length recommendation! I could decide to order small or medium with my 7” wrist. Now I know small.
Good to hear. That’s why we are here - to help each other. Enjoy the watch!
Where can i buy the 39mm??? In steinhart’s site isnt no more😢😢😢 HELP
You could buy mine. For some reason my taste in watches has evolved toward more dressier pieces, so I don’t use mine any longer. So you could buy mine. But arranging payment and shipment is always a hassle. Easier if you can find it new somewhere.
gnomon
Nice watch but they didn't choose the right strap for the watch. A green or a charcoal strap would suit better with the bronze color of the case top and champagne color of the dial imho. Or perhaps a more suitable choice would be contrasting color.
Where can we buy it these days. They don’t have it
👍💕💥💕👍 this watch is the best piece I've ever seen. A real icon 💥
lugs are too long and disproportionate to the case size
You’re totally clueless on how to wear a watch. It should be left of your wrist bone. If you put your hands together as if you were praying, the crown should not dig into your hand .
Beautiful watches.
if you compare the pioneer to the khaki field watch, you will notice immediately the quality difference. I have the pioneer, it is stainless steel brushed 36mm diameter, with a quality mineral glass which compared to the sapphire glass is less durable BUT there is less glare, which means that beautiful pioneer dial stands out, the dial which is QUALITY compared to the khaki field, has details. the nato strap is great too, but I opted for a high quality Matt finish leather black band 18mm. the pioneer can be worn with a suit, casually as a everyday watch and will turn heads. Especially for skinny wrists, this is the perfect watch. power reserve is 80 hours (3.33 days) which is great with a hand wind feature. personally I wished the second hand was entirely the colour red, would of made the dial pop even more.
So great to see Hamilton resist creating an over-sized monster, and remain faithful to a wonderfully historic piece! The watches we could obtain through supply in the military during the Vietnam years were 34 mm! Frustrating to see so many fairly accurate US and British pieces on the market with one glaring exception: they are way too large and not at all authentic reproductions. Nomos from Germany has a great selection of excellent watches in 36 mm…while not military pieces, well done Nomos!
You should have purchased a Nomadic watch and saved the money. This video was such a whiny video. Dude, man up there is no perfect watch.
Good video of a great watch 👍 One thing: I don’t think this watch has any AR coating; mineral glass is naturally clearer and less reflective than sapphire.
I really dig the 42mm!
Hi. Well you are welcome to buy it off me :-)
It looks great, but their customer service is abysmal... the movement they use in that watch is prone to issues... the power reserve is not good especially considering it is hand wind only. And the screw down crown... seems silly.
I am a proud owner of the limited version from Gnomon watches Singapore which I enjoy wearing each and everyday. One watch rule them all.!!!
Of course the 39 mm newer version with steel bracelet.
Love the look of that watch. Vintage style, history and a real man can also rock a smaller and discreet watch
Great to hear. Wear it in good health! Wearing mine as well today
I received mine 1 month ago, Stop wearing my Tudor-cartier-omega. Such a beautiful watch, simple. Makes me smile every time I look at it🤗
That is everything - wearing something that makes you smile. I put a dark brown nato on it, so it looks a bit military…
I'm Old, Pretentious, and rarely ready for anything and I have and love this watch! Dress Watch? I wear mine with everything and it looks great. Wore it today with a flannel.
Agree, it works every day with everything!
55mm lug to lug fits fine on my 6.25" wrist because I have a wide wrist.
Ha, I got the 1521 Militaire! So, I belong to the club too
Ha, Super! Welcome to the exclusive club!!
It,s the best 5517 Homage you can buy...In either 42mm or 39mm......I also have the Squale Militaire.....And the Steiny beats it hands down.......I own the Black 42mm and the Grey 42mm......And will shortly take ownership of the 39mm OVM......Beautiful pieces all......And on a Bracelet or a Nato.....There are few pieces that give you that true MilSub Vibe like the Steinhart.....Highly recommended, both the Watches and the Company.
Would buy it if had a date window
did it have metal band for it in genuine montblanc version? i remember fabric strap and leather but no metalic one.
i decided to buy it one in second hand. it was nice one. listed on my watch box.
Would be great to see them in your wrist. Im also 7 inch. But I want to buy matic caribbean blue. That blue is just hypnosis me. Struggling between 1521 and matic. But that blue🤦♂️🤣 a lot of just blue watches, want something special with caribbean, but little bit concern about size. I think 7 inch would be alright with that watch.
Hi. Dang, I forgot to put them on the wrist. Thanks for reminding me. It’s important to get them on the wrist. The 1521 is a clear winner on the wrist, whereas the matic looks really good, but wears large. But they are both great watches, and I really like Squale and their blues.
@@WristMech a lot of rewiewers said that it is wears smaller. So I confuse. Wears smaller but looks large right? In person I would definetely choose one for me. But live is hard these days🤣🤣
A lot of reviewers agree that it wears smaller. This means: With the dimensions it “should” be a big watch, and I would never choose such a big watch for myself. But when you try it, it doesn’t look as big as the dimensions. So the watch looks smaller than what you would think, and it sits comfortably. It is not a small watch, but it wears smaller than a 42mm. Most people can wear this comfortably, Hope that helps.
@@WristMech thank you very much, its definetely helps a lot👍💪
Your voice is so relaxing to listen to! I just bought this watch despite it being over my budget and I really hope to have this for years to come. I have not received it yet and your positive review is great to hear, hopefully you are still enjoying the watch in 2022.
Hi. Thank you. I just don’t have the voice for shouting, so I just have to talk calmly :-) I still enjoy the watch, and have switched the strap to a leather army-strap that makes it more bad-ass (as much as a small watch can be). Wear it in good health!
Excellent review, and strangely very relaxing!
Nice review and comparison. I think you are really splitting hairs with this copy vs. homage business, especially when you have gone to such pains to ensure that your watch on the NATO bracelet is a close as possible to the vintage Rolex in the picture. Honestly, I don't see the evidence that people who buy Steinhart watches are taking money away from Rolex. There are waiting lists for the originals, so sales volume and revenue is a non-issue for them. Also I am a bit irked by the focus on the "whodunit first" history as a way of justifying the purchase of a visual clone of the original Rolex, when you completely ignore an important FUNCTIONAL difference between the 42 and the 39 version. That is the difference between 200 meters of water resistance for the 42 and 300 for the 39. Surely this matters to buyers concerned with durability and longevity I am betting most buyers of these and other good quality Steinhart watches are buying them as well built tool watches, for their own use and enjoyment, and are less concerned than you about how others will judge them.
Great review. I bought the 42 without even knowing a 39 was available. Still, these are a very nice watch whatever the size and they feel good in the hand. Still, wish I had the 39!
No back-play at all, I just love my OVM 42 mm, and using the blue/grey NATO as well.
The ONDA's are awesome watches, but I wish Squale would have put the REEF indices on the ONDA! The Azzurro is the best looking ONDA too!
Strange? The sub 39 is 39mm and the 1521 is 42mm - but in this video, comparing side to side, the sub 39 looks larger than the 1521 - maybe it’s the very wide bezel of the Sub 39?? Beautiful watches - both of them!
It seems they stopped selling the trasparent case for this watch, which bacame a no go
Great watch, i have the V1 original with the 660ft-200m on the face and the case back, pretty rare from what i have heard. Not too keen on ocean one written on the face under the Steinhart logo on the newer ones. A very good looking watch thats easy on the eye, the bezel is very sexy with the minute markers all the way around.
Got the blueish one. Full white hands except the sky blue second hand and external index. A beauty on a kind of vintage sky blue with patina leather strap. Gorgeous sector dial design
I brought the black and guilt one on a bracelet 9 months ago. Absolute superb watch, no problems at all. I own more expensive watches, but this is up there with them.
Looking back I miss the watch. I am waiting for Tudor to come out with a new version for me. I really like the silver version, it is just the pale grey dial that stops me. But I hope they come out with a model that is right for me because this watch really belongs in any collection - I agree with you on that!
Great review. It has to be said that you mentioning that this doesn't have an anti-reflective coating has got me interested. I'm more about pretty reflections as opposed to being able to read the time properly - hahaha. I'm always late anyway so the time is wasted on me.
