    Kind of late comment, maybe someone can have some help from it. On my older V7 a, I first disconnect the power supply to the gas pump, then make a start attempt, then the pressure in the gas hose releases, then it becomes very easy to separate the hose connection, don't know if it is possible to run the same on the V85, it may be worth investigating

    erring on the side of tight valves is an odd suggestion. the common wisdom is that tappy valves are happy valves. if your engine taps when its cold but quietens down when it's warm, that's perfect. if you go too tight, as the engine heats up, it will lose compression. the tappets keep the valves open just a crack even when they should be closed and it'll run poorly. ask me how i know :-) if you're too loose, it'll tap even when it's warmed up, that's a sign you need to tighten them just a bit. trial and error can work for this.

    NEVER use anything METAL to check TDC, if you don't have a proper TDC gauge (which are quite reasonably priced, even Guzzi specific ones) then use a long plastic or paper drinking straw and once you have it at TDC you can mark it with a sharpie for next time and no danger of damage to piston or head. Using that allen or a screwdriver could leave you with a very large repair bill.

    Looks like you said there’s a 13mm bolt that needs to be removed from engine in order to put in the 17mm bolt head that secures the bottom part of the bars right? I’m thinking that the previous owner snapped that 13mm bolt because when I go to insert the 17mm bolt to secure the bottom part of the bars it doesn’t grab anything. I looked inside that engine Mount and don’t see any thread. That’s why I’m thinking that the bolt was snapped and it’s stuck inside. What’d you think?

    • @cubbysue
      @cubbysue 3 місяці тому

      Can you verify that the bolt is broken off? Can you see it in there with a flashlight? If that bolt is broken off inside for the engine mount, that is going to be a problem. Access to that bolt is very restricted. Trying to drill the bolt to extract it is going to be difficult with the engine in the bike. It is doable though. It's not a very deep bolt, but if it is snapped off, it may be because it was overtightened. Either way, that bolt going into the block of the engine is an integral part of the strength of the frame. The engine literally is hanging from the frame from those bolts. I'm sorry to hear that it is broken off. That my be a job best suited for your dealership or a machine shop. If you plan to attempt to remove it yourself, I would center punch the broken bolt with a transfer punch that fits tightly in the hole. You want to drill as centered into the bolt as you can. Good luck, and let us know how this mess turns out.

    • @daveotis4635
      @daveotis4635 3 місяці тому

      @@cubbysue once again you were right. Bolt was broken off inside. Tried extracting it but it was too much of a b?!ch since it’s deep inside. What I ended up doing was just threading the cylinder open area before the bolt. Engine Mount should be fine since that original bolt isn’t going anywhere. On a side note, this bike is relatively new to me. I noticed on the freeway that it was to rev pretty high to do decent freeway speeds. Is this normal? For example: 75-80mph = ~5000rpm

However, this seemed wrong, so I turn the engine just to see what happened and of course when the piston went down the space now in the valves is huge probably like half an inch.
