Nice car you got for $1500. I had owned two if these cars (a 2000 and an early 2001, before the bugeye came out). I can tell you the car can take mods and is a well built tough little car. Mods you may be interested in are a short shifter, lightened flywheel and HD sports clutch. Makes car very responsive to throttle inputs. A little bit of advice is to get the little valve replacements on the brake calipers called speedbleeders. They help a lot when changing your brake fluid, which you should use at least DOT3 possibly DOT4 brake fluid. But more importantly is to get a speedbleeder for the clutch master and slave cylinders. So changing the clutch fluid would be a breeze as well. Suspension components from CUSCO like swaybars front and rear with thicker diameters to replace the thin factory sways will give the car the stability and response in the chassis. KYB AGX adjustable shocks will give you the proper height on dirt, snow or tarmac. Good set of springs and of course replace bushings with polyurethane, as you will need to replace the old worn rubber ones anyway. The main drivetrain Guibo will also need replacement, get a stiffer polyurethane one. Replace worn motor mounts and transmission mounts. Check anything rubber and replace due to car’s extreme age and misuse. The throttle body can get a spacer between it and the manifold to help develop a little more power. Then think about an engine rebuild or replacement. Sounds a lot, but Subarus with the pancake engines can have ring failures at that age. Push them and they will blow. That is if you are serious. The costs may add another $10k, but you can have a really nice car. Or you can do your original plan and run the car until it goes pop. Oh and a full 2.5 inch header exhaust should be done to one get the grumble sound, but again develop so more power. Don’t go beyond 2.5 inch in size as the 3 inch exhausts are for forced induction cars. The too large exhaust diameter will create too much back pressure killing your power range. A K&N or other filtercharger with cold intake tube to replace the worn and broken air filter box. And finally a set of alloy wheels that is a bit more narrower than the stock wheels and a nice set if knobby tires to allow better grip on dirt and gravel and snow (snow knobbies should be studded). At least for well below half the cost of a new cheap car, you’ll have a killer neo-rally car.

You can just undo the bolts and lift the back enough to change the plugs without disconnecting steering and power cables etc

Such an awesome little beast, living amongst greats like the NSX, Nissan 300ZX, Supra and RX7s. I really wish Mitsubishi would revive and modernize this, keep the Twin Turbo V6, make it mid engined and 4 wheel drive. Mitsubishi have forgotten they had something great and just forgot about it.

What’s that fourth plug/sensor called? Not the 3 leading to the spark plugs- that fourth one? The rubber gasket is torn on mine and I need to find a replacement. Just the rubber gasket or whatever it is.

Funny since the 99 3000gt VR4 had almost all the technology dropped from it due to costs. And then talking about the car as an investment and modding the hell out of it. The only way to keep it's value high is to keep it stock.
