Looks like the x700 front tires is the same size as the e100 rear tires
Pretty close! Haha!
I was so P.O. when I got my new JD x758 in the winter when it was delivered with the Mower deck When I went to take the mower deck off and put my plow on and could not find the Hyd. valve to convert it over from the mower to the plow I called the JD dealer only to find out that I had to spend another few hundred dollars to purchase this valve to be able to switch the Hyd system to use my plow. That is total BS and John Deere should never allow out of the factory without one, how stupid. My x738 I just traded in comes with the valve. Just remember if you buy the X758, that it doesn't come with a valve. Thank you for your video, it was a big help.
7:40 hey, you don't have to apologize for not picking up the logs by hand. more tractor time is always better! the only thing you need to apologize for is the empty beer holder. When doing a job like this, the beer holder should be filled with the proper fluid. It's very important to keep the operator properly primed for optimal tractor experience.
Ok, thanks again, Josh!!
I got another question, Josh, should the output shaft on the deck gearbox be greased? This is my first year with the x739 and when I removed the deck for snow plowing, it didn't look like there was any grease on the shaft or the in the driveshaft receiver, so I'm not sure if I should grease it. Thanks for your input, again!
No, the shaft coming out of the transaxle does not need greased, nor the shaft coming out of the deck gearbox. The driveshaft should be “permanently” connected to the deck, but the only thing needing grease on that would be the u joints if there are fittings, and the slip joint. You can just extend that all the way and smear some grease on it if no fitting.
Thanks SO much, Josh, that's exactly what I wanted to hear about adding weights to my x739 (aluminum wheels). Love your channel!
Josh, with all due respect, I think they are right, here's why. When I watched you torque the bolts I thought something was wrong, that there was too much play in the housing and it wasn't fitting flush on the case. Those bolts should go on completely and a positive stop should be felt when the case parts are seated together. Look back at your video, do you remember the one bolt that was actually lose and you were surprised about it? That should have told you something wasn't right. I do expect to do this install at some future point. What I suggest, after a lot of experience rebuilding rear ends and Porsche transmissions, is that people doing this should dry run the parts together WITHOUT the gasket to make sure the housing fits flush on the main casing. The reason the bearing failed was that the balls were pushed out of the race with a lot of force which only could have happened if the housing wasn't right. The floating sync gear was probably pressed against the sliding gear or the gear in front of it was not sitting right, that's why you saw damage on it. We all make mistakes and get to have erasers on our pencils, this one just cost you a lot of money BUT I think you probably saved other people the expense. A couple of other things. When you put an expansion pin in shaft do it with a pin punch so you don't flare the outside of the pin, which makes it easier to remove. While you didn't use the torque wrench with crows foot if you do the crows foot should be at a right angle to the torque wrench head, not inline with it.
Josh, I have a 2023 JD X739 4wd, 4ws, with the aluminum wheels. Can I add the rear weight bar and 4 or 5 suitcase weights on it? I read somewhere that the aluminum wheels can't take the extra weight which makes no sense to me. Why would JD use aluminum wheels if I can't add weight? Thanks for any advice on this.
That is absolutely not true. If you watch this video: Josh's Green Garage "Buy My $hit" Video ua-cam.com/video/orQyXYaChb4/v-deo.html You can see mine with Aluminum wheels, the 3 point (which is I think 75+, maybe even 90lbs), my ripper which is 108lbs by itself, and 4 - 42lb weights, so 276lbs all together, which is more than what the click n go bracket would hold. I can add 2 more weights as well, and have, which brings it to 360lbs. The only thing you cannot do with the aluminum wheels is add wheel weights, they don’t have bolt holes for them.
Thanks! Your videos were really helpful in doing maintenance on my 584. I'm waiting on getting an oil filter cap wrench to complete the job, but everything else went smoothly thanks to your videos.
I’d recommend the channel lock brand oil filter pliers! Check out my x700 series oil change or transaxle filter change videos to see it. Way better than a wrench!
Do you have to shut the blades off to go in reverse?
No, there is a reverse safety button you hold when going into reverse, that allows the blades to keep moving
Does Brinly make the sleeve hitch ? I have a 345 im wanting to instal one on
Yes Brinly makes it, not sure if you can buy it through them though. I also don’t know if this hitch would fit a 345.
Great video!
my question as a new x500 owner is there a tension adjustment for the drive belt that drives the blade belt, the PTO belt that feeds the deck is loose, slipping and coming off! is there a tensioner for that?
Yes, there is a tensioner pulley on the deck, I’d check that to make sure it is functioning properly
I've just bought a x350r and will be installing a bush guard on it soon so this video came along just right ! Brilliant stuff cheers 👍🏻
Not going to get into it what are you doing on u suck
Sweet, some really constructive feedback here. Be nice if that comment was even understandable.
I know the mowers aren’t the same but the John Deere G100 has a 54” deck and I have to cut the wheels all the way to the left to get my deck out
Thanks for taking the mystery out of the float switch.....
Not sure if this is sarcasm or not… but this video is for people that may have just gotten a machine, or don’t yet have one. So to them, seeing what all the controls do is helpful. I don’t expect people that have been in this hobby for some time to find this useful.
Great stuff, thanks and subbed
Subscribed just on the honesty in the beginning of the video alone . Highschool mechanics class project was to get an old ride on mower running again , didn’t end up becoming a mechanic but I look forward to learning more through your channel!
We used to have an old guy that had an X700 and he drove it for everything to get around in the neighborhood and you could always tell how drunk he was by how high the throttle was set when he was driving down the road. If he had it full throttle, look out, he was plastered.😂
Haha, well not to defend drunk driving, but that is a downside to the X700s! You are only going to get near top speed if the throttle is all the way up.
What do you use as a rear strobe? Also does anyone made an elevated light kit for the front?
It’s just a clip on light I got from Lowe’s. I carefully cut off the clip, then put some magnet tape on it so it sticks to the ripper. Works pretty great! As for a light kit on the front, Deere makes part number BM20753, but it looks like parts need to be purchased individually. If you are handy, you can easily make a way better setup. Would just need to get the plug on the side of the headlights, that way it will connect right to what is already there. Email me if you want some ideas!
That sweeper is amazing for the leaves! For the grass you just need some chickens and they will clean up all of those grass clippings.
Add a heavy snow-blower and you will be glad you have the power steering. Too light is way better than too heavy.
Josh, I love that John Deere toolbox!! Did you make it or did you buy it..I could not even imagine what the price would be...Great video my friend..such an organized toolbox..-John
I bought the box, they are discontinued now, but were $40 new. I sourced all the tools in it, couldn’t tell you what it all costed, but you can do quite a bit with it for sure!
@@JoshsGreenGarage That is great!!..I tried to find them as well but the people that have them will not part with them..I suppose I am going ot have to make a stencil and then paint my own tool box..Than you !!!
I have a brush guard on my JD 530. I use Nylon lock nuts as not to worry about nuts coming loose during mowing season.👍😊
Ct Attachments does make plows from 52”-72”. 11/18/24
What is the best way to level deck? When you adjust mower deck height do you raise outside four wheels all the way up ?
If you leveling it yes, you need all wheels off the ground. Once leveled you adjust the wheel I think 1/4” to 1/2” off the ground… can’t remember the exact number. But I usually put them as close as possible without touching. Pretty sure I have a video on leveling this deck. Might answer some questions for ya.
I'm not so mechanically inclined, so I really appreciate the detail you put into your video. This seems like it should be very easy. Surprised to hear that it's 100 hours for the oil change, I'm only at 40 haha
That little button by the throttle you need to push in if the PTO is engaged. Do you have to push it when snowblowing? If you do is there a way to keep it engaged?
I’ve never used a blower on it, but since it is all ran by the same PTO, I would guess that it would shut off. You can bypass that safety though, I just don’t want to show how because I don’t want in any way to be liable and have someone say I showed them how to do it.
I'm thinking about this and making it a quick tool-less removal for when I'm dong 48" wide sidewalks. For that I like your modification with some different hardware. Great job and thanks for sharing the idea!
does that have or can you get a quick attach for the front? i'd like to use other products besides jd.
What do you mean by quick attach? It has the John Deere quick hitch, it’s what gives you the ability to use front mount tool. There are a few companies that make different attachments for it. Not sure how compatible it would be with like a bobcat or kubota plow or something though.
Hey I’m after complete set of these wheels for this how much please?
The wheel assembly (bearings, rim, tire) is part number AM125926, and is currently $147.61 from Deere, you will need 2, so $ 295.22. This spreader is made by Brinly though, so if you don't care to get yellow wheels, you can potentially get part number 1018851 from them, however, I cannot confirm if it will be exactly the same wheel and tire. The tire looks slightly different, but the wheel is likely the same. These will run you $46.04 a piece. Please don't get mad at me though if they don't work.
Thanks for the vid. I prefer the versa turf pattern. Great all around, and just got tired of the turf tire look and slipping on wet hills.
Good test Josh. Thanks. Replaceable/bolt-on teeth?
I suggested replaceable/bolt on, issue is where they would be supported. Be tough without driving a complete redesign. Hopefully we will see replaceable weld on teeth, or perhaps a beef up kit of sorts.
Great video simple and concise. Thank you
Great video Josh! Thank You!
I bought a used D110 about 10 years ago when I barely knew what a lawn tractor was. 10 years later it still runs fine. However, I think it's time to upgrade.
Starting your video after you've already built it doesn't make sense.
Well this is part 2…
Thanks for the video! I DO NOT have a floor jack and it really is lots of maneuvering to get everything aligned just right. The manual makes it sound really easy (which it's not), so thanks for the reinforcement with this video. A video showing how to replace the main v-belt would be helpful also.
Great review, I like your videos. I have a X730 and mounted the 1 1/4 inch receiver from John Deere and recently upgraded to a 2 inch receiver from Heavy Hitch that will quickly attach using the Click-N-Go brackets provided by John Deere. Wish I could attach a picture. Easy attach and removal, no modification at all. Now I have both size receivers.
Use a food grade grease to lube the gears. It doesn’t affect the plastic.
Hey Josh, do you have any pictures of the Diesel decals actually on a mower? I have an x750 and want some Diesel decals, but the eBay link doesn’t find them?? Thanks, Chad
Hello, I’m very sorry, I need to take that video down. I’ve stopped selling them because a few people ruined it and I didn’t like eBay’s shipping requirement. I was selling them at a slow but steady rate, and started getting really irritated because I would get an order, send it out, then immediately get another, and I found myself constantly trying to get to the post office to send them, but it was hard with my actual job, and I didn’t want to trust just dropping them in my mailbox. I could have easily put in the terms that orders will only ship one day of the week or something, so this could have been an easy fix. The bigger problem was that in order to offer free shipping, I was sending them in a regular envelope, so there was no tracking. I had a few people say they never got them, so I had to blindly send more out at no charge. To add to that, there were multiple instances where people supposedly didn’t get them, and rather than contacting me about it, they submitted a claim with eBay, and then never responded to my messages about it, so I ended up having to pay all the money back. And we all know damn well that they got them. I’d sell them again potentially, but I’d have to begin charging shipping.
A John Deere lawn sweeper like this Dad pick up grass in no time
A John deere lawn sweeper, we get one for our Mower cool
Had the same thing very poor design🤥🤥
I'm sorta jealous you got a green JD toolbox...
I wish you'd done a side-by-side comparison when you changed one side and before changing the other side. That's how I compared the ones when I changed them on my 445 and then on my mom's x370, you could really tell the difference. Still, I really like and appreciate your videos!!
Very nice craftsmanship!
looks identical to a sears craftsman toolbox i have, except this one is green & yellow with JD decals. i may look at painting mine and adding JD decals, hmmmm, maybe, , , , Great video!!
so, just curious, the front hose hanger puts the hoses right at the exhaust, does the heat cause issues to the hoses??
So I was always worried about this too, but I haven’t seemed to notice any issues, from -30 plowing snow to grappling logs at 80. They are pretty thick hoses, and wrapped in a heavy, surely heat resistant material. It’s Deere, it’s quality stuff.
