- The great Anita O'Day sings Four Brothers with the Les Brown Orchestra and Let Me Off Uptown with Lionel Hampton. This is from a TV broadcast of 1958-9, so the picture quality isn't that good.
Too bad we don't have singers like this these days...
A peerless musician, a total original, hip as Hell and always turned out ultra-fashionably. Every album she ever made was brilliant. Miss her.
Anita O'Day makes anything she sings a "great" song. What an amazing artist!
Thanks for the Anita! RIP
... What an amazing voice, thanks for posting this...
Great voice and great feel for music. And she also always seemed to dress so stylishly. Her dresses in this vid look like they're from St. Laurent's 1958 Dior collection. Cool!
They don't make them like her anymore. Only in the USA did we see this. Could scat with the best of them. A great ear. A great Performer.
Great version of this on Anita O'Days Finest. Actually both of these tunes, along with Tea for Two.
Take it brotha! She's way too cute here, so cool!!
BEST thank you
This is wicked good, its killin’ me here.
She never made a bad song, let alone a bad album.
I agree completely...there's no one left!
Oh, she was so cool - right at the end she's like 'Gimme some skin Hamp' :-)
Yeah, the first set is a great Les Brown and his band of Renown on Four Brothers. The second set contains Lionel Hampton playing the role of Roy Eldridge, and like looks like Gene Krupa in back of Hamp on drums as they all recreate Let Me Off Uptown.
Anyone know if this footage is available on DVD or VHS or even CD? Two great songs that really show off her talent.
Good ole’ Hamp.
He’s been around, though.
Hey that's Krupa on drums on Let Me Off Uptown
