    Hey Jake, Thanks for the preview of what I can expect. As you learned, having the correct tool makes all the difference! I have some suggestions: #1a Get throw away gloves. Change them often. You can get them at Costco. #1b get bigger boards for your stands (if that stand slips, all bets are off) or just do without, your asphalt is hard enough. #2 I agree get ramps. Your tires were 1/4" off the ground (although at full suspension extension). I think ramps would get you more room (I still use a floor jack and stands though, because that is what I have) #3 Get a DEEP oil pan! You are draining almost two gallons of oil, all at once. "It just comes and comes..." (yeah, that is what she said...) #4 Don't open the oil cap until AFTER most of the oil has drained (see #3) #5 Get the proper filter wrench. Amazon says it is a: "86mm 16 flutes oil filter removal tool. Specifically designed and tested to fit Volvo engines that have a 86mm plastic smooth top oil filter cap, most but not all years of the following Volvo vehicles: C70, S40(1.9L only), S60, S70, S80, V40, V70, XC70, and XC90 (NOT FOR Volvo 3.2L 6-cylinder engine). It will not fit caps with a 6 point nut on the top." So 86mm x 16 flats... so much easier. Yes you might need a different one for each of your cars (I have a 3-prong adjustable from Craftsman, but I like the "exact fit" cap style better) #6 Remove the o-ring FIRST, then clean the housing (get that sludge out!), then change the o-ring, THEN, press the filter onto the by-pass valve. Details matter. #7 Skip filling the filter. Your bearings already have oil on them. #8 I know what you meant, but is is not what you said... Put 5 quarts in, start the engine. Once you are sure there are no leaks, (stop the engine) and put the skid plate back on, then lower the car and add another 1/2 quart. Wait 10 min and add a bit more until you are happy (almost to the "high mark"?) Never overfill an engine. I am going to watch your "What to expect" Volvo XC70 video next (this is my Mom's car, and Dad just passed away) Thanks for the video, Paul

    Between my E38's and E39's I have 5 M62TU engines on hand and only one leaks from the rear main seal after 220,000 kms..........the valve cover gaskets normally are blown out by the CCVD becoming inoperable. I run my manometer to check vacuum every oil change and never have an issue. Proper VC installation is the other thing and the sealants being used and where. With proper maintaince the M62 is deadly reliable.......the M54 is an awesome engine as well; my only complaint is how mashed in the CCVD is under the intake........pay attention to the DISA valve that it does not pitch a steel pin into your valve train.....Which one is best for me? I couldnt decide so I own the v8 and 6cyl in Msport trim with individual colors. Nice cars you have there; good to see that they are unmodified. Cheers

    I just bought in Munchen, a 2002 Saphir Black 540ia M sport package. Some little issue to fix ( like small common oil leaks ), but the condition is very good interior and exterior. I plan to put new dampers coz' the car mileage is about 185.000 Km and they are a bit soft I think. After 10 years with a e39 M5, I was looking for an automatic transmission. I hope I will like the 540 ! Enjoy !

    Great video! Thanks for sharing. How is this for a daily driver in the East Coast ( in the winter months). Curious to know how she starts in the morning after being out in the cold. I’ve always wanted one of these and plan on finding one in the next few months. Any advice?

    • @jakeandcameron7022
      @jakeandcameron7022 Місяць тому

      It starts up great in the cold! I usually let it warm up for a little bit before driving and then it drives great. It does leave something to be desired in snow and ice because it’s RWD so it loses traction a little easier than other cars, and if you have any elevation change it might get rough. This can be mitigated with a good set of winter tires but it’s still not perfect.

    Had one that was almost the exact same as this up until 3 months ago, had a dove grey interior and was stick! first car i ever bought and first manual too. At 215k miles it was dead reliable and i drove multiple 300 mile trips comfortably. Could've just kept driving it and keeping up with maintenance and it probably wouldve lasted another 75k miles minimum but I wanted a truck so i sold it. Theyre wonderful cars and you can find some good deals on well maintained examples if you look hard enough; mine was only $3,200!
