  • Guests Sharon Cameron and Ed Burzminski speak at Parnassus Books in Nashville, Tennessee for the launch of the young adult novel titled The Light in Hidden Places. Published by Scholastic Books this young adult fiction novel is based on the true story of Stefania Podgorska, a 16-year old Polish Catholic girl who, along with her younger sister Helena Podgorska, rescued 13 Jews by hiding them in an attic for nearly 18-months in Nazi-occupied Przemysl Poland. Max Diamant, one of the rescued, married Stefania shortly after the war, later changing his name to Josef Burzminski.
Ed Burzminski is Stefania and Joe's son.

I just finished this incredible book. I have had read many books of historical fiction in the time period of WW2. As I was reading it, I kept saying I had never read a book where I could really feel all the emotions of these young, brave people. Thank you so much for writing and sharing this story, and to each of the people in the story for their bravery. I hope they all went on to live good lives. Thank you.

“If I included everything she wrote, not only would it be a thousand pages but no one would believe me.” And the story is so unbelievable with what has been included in the novel. @Ed Burzminski Any chance of making the unpublished memoir available to the public? So, so incredible!!

That's what I wanted to know. I read that Helena passed away in December of 2022.
