Cyprus - Wildflowers, Birdlife and More
Garden on the moors are back on tour! This time, we have returned to Cyprus for some autumnal sunshine. We explored several hiking trails and found some brilliant wildflowers, especially autumn flowering bulbs, as well as a couple of incredible birds that have come down from the mountains of Europe to spend the summer months in the relative calm weather of Cyprus.
Keep an eye out for Narcissus obsoletus, wild Muscari Grape Hyacinth, orchids and even a Wallcreeper!

    Can the quails hatch there own eggs , I'm very surprised but I've noticed the eggs are being laid in a pile , didn't expect the quail to get broody , I have one male two females , and new to any sort of foul, had someone stay who came with the male she left and couldn't take him we decided he needed female so got two and now I'm not sure wat to do

      That’s interesting to hear, yes with the right conditions it is possible for them to hatch their own, but more often than not they don’t. With ours we find they lay in piles but aren’t really interested in hatching them 🙉

    Definitely worth a try,the potatoes you harvested looked lovely and they’re freebies 😀. I once planted out some Charlotte potatoes that I’d found sprouting at the back of the cupboard and harvested enough for a few meals,they tasted all the better for being freebies!😂 . Great idea using the bulb planter,will give that a go. 🙂

      Absolutely! The best kind of potato is a free one 😂 Thanks! I find it really works for me, and is a nice balance between getting the seed potato in and reducing the soil impact around it

    I read that Giant Mussleburgh will become perennial after 3 years and divide at the bottom, like a bunching onion. That they can withstand the cold very well. Have you ever thought to try that?

    • @gardenonthemoors
      @gardenonthemoors Місяць тому

      Ooh that's interesting, and I can see that they would as they often have little baby leeks growing from their roots. We tend to just eat them when they're ready, they often develop rust in our damp climate as they age so wouldn't last that long.

    • @gardenonthemoors
      @gardenonthemoors 7 місяців тому

      You're quite right, although I only have a small amount of space for them, max 15 plants, which I want a succession of across the season and so need different sowing dates. Each seed is inexpensive and this method means that the few I do grow are the strongest and most robust I can get. I do transplant the outcasts if a trio in a separate pot hasn't germinated, has failed due to slugs or are weak in growth, so they are also my insurance policy 😊 Hope that helps!
