What we do When Sickness Hits our Home
what we do when sickness hits our home
After being a mama for five years, I have learned some tips surrounding sickness. Mainly to keep my children healthy on the forefront and then to just let sicknesses run their course. In this video, I am sharing a few tips on what we do when sickness hits our home to help alleviate some of those not so pleasant symptoms that come with sickness to sometimes help the body heal a little easier.

I have used this video twice now to strip my diapers naturally. My girl is 1 1/2, we have very hard water, and we use cloth diapers to save money! I’m so grateful for this video and for your helpful tips and willingness to share your process! My diapers come out so fresh after doing this 🎉
Love the video! Curious what you use the colloidal silver for? This is not the first time I'm hearing about its benefits- would like to know your thoughts on it! Hope you & you're family get well soon!
helpful hint i just learned. you are supposed to let garli sit for 10 min after mincing or cuttng to activate all the good medicinal effects . they become activated once they are prepped . just fyi

So good, Ammie! Sickness is making its way through our house as well. You may already know about this… but you should check out the brand Onle Organics and their alkaline silver. I love having it on hand and trust it so much. The owner has a podcast episode/transcript I read about the difference between colloidal silver and their alkaline silver. I will forever have this product to grab as we need it. I’m also working on my “apothecary cabinet”. I love having it filled with homemade things and brands I love. It’s so satisfying to have instead of the “medicine cabinet” I think we all had growing up😆
@@makensipitt thank you, Makensi! I hope y’all get well quickly and feel better! And I did not know about thay company and alkaline silver. I’m actually pretty new to colloidal silver and need to learn more! I will check into that and the differences! Thank you so much for passing this info along! And I love having this type of care for my family vs the old medicine cabinet! We had that as well and that’s all I knew prior to about 5 years ago!
love this. thank you!

Welcome to the fresh milled club haha. Excited to see if you figure out some good sourdough recipes because I haven’t quite figured that out with fresh milled. Happy new year!
@@alliemcconnell789 thank you, Allie! I’m So glad to finally be here! And I’ve already been making my sourdough sandwich loaf with fresh milled and it’s been as easy swap!
Ammie, my friend, this is perfect timing! I've had a grain mill for at LEAST 6 months, and I have the wheat berries! I'm so intimidated with this process that I don't do any of it! I just need to start!
@@ashleyporter9330 hi Ashley!! I’m so glad to hear this and that you’ve already gotten all the supplies you need! (Don’t feel bad, I let my pressure canner do the same thing two years ago because was too intimidated by it) But the grain mill has been so extremely easy to learn, really not even that much to learn besides turning it on! I’m still learning conversions but I hung the “bread beckers grain berries to flour conversions” chest sheet and it’s made milling even simpler still! facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=5807386655955843&set=a.505331709494724 Just go for it! I’ll be sharing many more tips as I go along this journey too!
@AmmieHarris thank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to get started! I appreciate you!
How does gretta do with the milled flour? I thoyght that it couldnt be used for sourdough for some reason i dont even know where i heard that. I love that you are so health, conscious it really makes me think about how bad our food really is.
@@ahouston1989 Greta has transitioned well to fresh milled flour and is rising bread well for me! It can most definitely be used with starter! And thank you so much for the kind encouragement!
@AmmieHarris that's so amazing! I still have greta's daughter (Gertrude), and we enjoy all the bread and goodies from her. Milling flour seems so beneficial! I am looking forward to watching your journey. If it's in the cards joining you on the road to a healthier food source.
@@ahouston1989Awww I love that Gertrude is still doing well and y’all are still enjoying her! And I’ll be sharing much more and so glad to have you follow along and learn more! ❤️
Yay! How exciting! I highly recommend Sue Becker from “Bread Beckers” recipes! We have a cook book of hers and every single recipe has been amazing, both on her blog and in the book!❤❤
@@JoelleGrace thank you!! Sue has been my go to these last few months as I’ve been anticipating the day I got my mill! So far I’ve only used recipes she has on the blog and she verbally has shared in podcasts, but I’m going to order her red cookbook when I make a co-op order from them in a few months! Can’t wait!!
@ I am so excited for you! Some of our family favorites are her millet muffins, molasses oatmeal bread, millet Mac N’ cheese, Basic yeast bread, and her brownies. We make them all a lot! We struggled with whole wheat until we used her recipes and now we can confidently turn any recipe into a fresh milled whole wheat recipe! It is so delicious!
@ ohhh they all sound so good! I’m writing all these down so they can be my first to try when I get the recipe book!! Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you so much for sharing with us. I am wanting to learn more about freshly milled flour and mill my own this new year! Can’t wait to see more! Xo 🤍
Thank you for watching! I’m looking forward to sharing more! I hope I can offer more helpful information and encouragement on freshly milling grains. It’s been honestly such a smooth and simple transition I want to share it with everyone!
Ammie, I do not comment on your videos enough, but I just want to say that you and Jessica at three rivers homestead are my favorite UA-camrs. I have learned so much from you! You inspire me in many ways! And you are absolutely GLOWING since having your removal surgery!! I am so proud of you!! Remember that Jesus turns our ashes into beauty. I’m truly honored you are here and I’m so grateful you’ve gained valuable information through my videos! I pray you have a blessed week!
So I just got the same mill for Christmas and I made the same mistake as you, although you may not know it’s a mistake right now. You know when you open the bin where the flour goes into and there’s a ring around it so I kind of trapped some of the flower that ring is not supposed to be in the bowl. It’s supposed to go on top of it. There’s a little notches that it fits into so that the part where you put grain in is bigger so you can add more at a time. Hopefully that helps.
@@AmyHatch-x1c haha yes I know!! I put it on properly at my parent’s to test it earlier that day. Packed it all back up to bring home and when I pulled it out of the box in that clip, I was so excited to use it, I forgot to get out the hopper extension from the bottom bowl! 🤪 It’s in its proper place on top of the mill now! And so exciting you got one for Christmas too!!!

@AmmieHarris ooohhh that is going to look so nice nice stained!
@ thank you! I’ll share whenever we finally finish!!

Wouldn’t this be hosting like Martha 🥹
@@jamipop at the end of the video I talk about this topic. Doing the preparation before and then once the guests arrive focus on them and the experience of just enjoying their company and not to worry about all the details of the event anymore
@ I wondered even if “hosting like Mary” was because Mary focused on the important things as well just in different ways. I was confused and had to ask my husband haha. I’m glad I wasn’t totally wrong! ❤️
@ haha I always used to get that story mixed up and which lady did which! I’ve definitely been a Martha too, but I want to strive to be more like Mary’s hospitality once my guests arrive. Not perfect at this by any means!
I love cloth diapering, we are expecting our third baby and I cant wait to cloth him 🤩🫶🏼, love your videos!
Thank you so much! Congratulations on your third sweet little one! Cloth is just so good! We love them!
Absolutely heartbreaking and also beautiful. What a strong mama! Thank you for sharing your story! you should never have had to go through that 💔 praying for your recovery even now!
I am very new to all of this sourdough discard. Please excuse my ignorance. I have a starter in one jar and take out half of it each day and pop this into my discard jar which I keep in the fridge. How long before I can use this discard or should it be literally discarded thrown out as someone said it was poisonous..?? So confused. ..!!
Love this! I highly recommend trying hot cacao instead of cocoa-- 2 tbsp of cacao powder, 2 tbsp maple syrup, and two cups of milk!
@@Ra20233 thank you! And yes that’s what we personally usually drink ❤️❤️ I just ran out and grabbed cocoa for the party!!
Wow what a story and video to show her! Dad did that like a pro! And mom- wow you handled that incredibly!!

Hi Ammie! How did you postpone breastfeeding and avoid engorgement? Going through it now and it’s tough! Any advice on that? Thank you!!!
@@sjw0872hi! I are you referring to when I weaned my youngest child from breastfeeding for a few months? If so, didn’t postpone it initially right after his birth. I did breastfeed exclusively for about 8 weeks before postponing to wean him for surgery. I had a few days of a little bit of uncomfortable engorgement but I weaned slowly to avoid the discomfort or chance of mastitis. So doing this slowly is key to avoid the pain. If I felt engorged I’d feed him just enough to help with the discomfort and then finished feeding with our supplemental feedings! This allowed me to slowly wean over about 4ish weeks!
@ Yes, exactly! This helped so much! Thank you!!
@ so glad to hear! You’re welcome!!
I struggle with offering hospitality too, but I know it's something I need to work on. My tip would be not to over think it. I have a tendency to become anxious and worry about every detail, but actually my friends don't really care that much about how clean the house is or how much food there is. As long as it's reasonable, the association and a pleasant, stress free atmosphere is what is most important. ❤
@@siany123 I love this! Thank you for sharing your struggle with this as well! I’m truly working on a generous attitude in this area! And I love your tip here! That’s so true, they really don’t care about a perfectly clean home or the perfect food spread! Thank you for sharing!
Many Blessings to you and your family 🙏✝️ Merry Christmas 🎄, thank you for the tips.

Trying to figure out a routine that works. I have barnyard smell and I can't seem to get rid of it. At this point I think the cause is detergent build up. We haver pretty hard water.
I just tried it and none of my jars sealed, does anyone know what I could’ve done wrong?
@@georgiasemigloss3197 oh no!! Did you wipe rims down very good prior to adding lids? That’s where my failures always came from canning.
@ false alarm, I just didn’t realize I had to wait a few minutes for them to pop! They actually all ended up sealing! 😄
@ yay! So glad to hear!!!
Whew! I'm over here cryin! The birth, your family, and the bonding really go to me! This goes to show you that you have to be quick on your feet! You did amazing, and your husband remained calm! Great teamwork❤
I loved this video absolutely beautiful I was watching your facial expressions and interactions with your partner and it took me right back there I felt all the emotions building up then burst into tears what a lovely video full of emotion support, calm and love 💕 congratulations to you all 💐

@@henri7120 thank you so much! So happy to be on the other side of this!
I noticed your sterilised the jars but not the lids or rings you just took them out of the packet
@@systemtim yes, it’s no longer necessary to sterilize and doesn’t change outcomes of canning process. I probably should have just rinsed in warm water but probably just forgot.
@ I’ve never seen anywhere that says sterilise the jars and not the caps and rings. (that would not make sense) surely it defeats the object of sterilising the jars? Never the less I will continue to sterilise all my jars, lids and rings.
@ to each their own. I haven’t sterilized mine in over 5 years since learning this and have had successful canning
I love how thoughtful you are at giving advice on having children and child rearing so I have question I would love to know your thoughts on. Given that studies show essentially all breast milk contains microplastics is it better to purchase like a organic formula in hopes that that microplastic wouldn't be passed on to baby? Thinking maybe an animal would have less exposure to plastic.
@@hannahwolf191 thank you, Hannah for your kind compliment! So if your question is would I choose an organic formula over breastmilk just to avoid micro plastics, no I wouldn’t. I still believe the benefits in breastmilk would outweigh this con. That is if I was fully capable of producing breastmilk. In case of supplementing my breastmilk, as I’ve had to in the past, I’d still use the homemade option I talk about in this video over even an organic one. I don’t even trust organic formulas since almost all still have added seeds oil, soy products, and carcinogens and are highly heated. So personally no, I’d still breastfeed! I think it’s still God’s best food for our babies!
@AmmieHarris well microplastics and all the other things that seem to be hidden in our food. I ended up giving my babe a goats milk formula that was organic from Europe that didn't have seed oils, and soy products I know for sure. I chose this due to other reasons that through off me being able to breastfeed but look back thinking this maybe was the better option. I am also torn whether I should breastfeed with our next baby even if I am able to given all the things I believe gets passed from us to our baby. I do also take a very low dose SSRI and I don't want that to be passed on
@ I’m glad you were able to find a good European option. All the ones I looked at still at oils such as sunflower, rapeseed, palm and the milk powders were highly heated to create the formula “powders.” In the end, I’d always suggest mamas only do what they are comfortable with for their babies. If you don’t feel comfortable with something it’s probably not the best fit for you and your baby! Even though I had implants ( if you saw my recent journey ) I know my breastmilk was not the cleanest for my babies. But I personally was not comfortable with formula options assessable to us, so I proceeded with breastfeeding. I eat as best foods I can and avoid as many outside toxins as humanly possible today, breastfeed my babies, and just trust God to take care of them from there! Congratulations on your newest addition coming and I know you will make the perfect choice that fits you both! 💕
@AmmieHarris agreed! We have to do the best we can and leave in the Lord's hands. Yes I did see the videos you did on your breast implants. Great information! I honestly was shocked to find out you had breast implants. Looked very natural on you. So glad you made the decision to remove!
Thanks for this video. I don't have a baby I am not pregnant nor married. I want to breastfeed my kids when I have them. This video was very informative.
