The Immortal Saga of Adem Jashari - Part II
In this first episode, I will cover how Adem Jashari rose to become the commanding general of the Kosova Liberation Army (UÇK) in 1993. Over the next several years, from 1993 to the start of 1998, Adem Jashari led the UÇK in numerous battles, using hit-and-run tactics to challenge the Serbian military’s dominance in Kosova. Through his dedication, the UÇK grew in strength, becoming a symbol of Kosova's fight for freedom.

    Albanian is close to English and French. I learned just a little bit of this languages and can say there are many things similar. It’s not like Serbian or Croatian for example. It is more like Italian and Greek which are close. You can find 500.000 Albanians in Italy for example. There is a place in Italy allowing Albanian as official language. In Switzerland the third most spoken language is not Italian, it is Albanian (around 250.000 Albanians) I can show from many articles. The Albanians in Greece (500.000 - 750.000) are speaking Albanian also. Albanian is easy to learn even the alphabet is one of the biggest. I think it is the oldest also. All countries in our direct neighbourhood instead of Italy are using other writings.

  • @Scion3Sevens

    Most of this is nationalist nonsense. For example, we don't know who the Illyrians even were - but generally speaking, it is agreed they were not one nationality, but a mixture of ethnic groups residing in today's Albania and other Balkan territories that were politically united. What makes up an "Albanian" most assuredly did not form until the 2nd half of the Middle Ages, and certainly did not speak "Illyrian," which is unknown.

    • @ChildrenOfTheEagle
      @ChildrenOfTheEagle 13 днів тому

      First, the Illyrian language was probably the dominant language in much of the western Balkans. The study of the Illyrian language is based on an interdisciplinary approach that combines historical data, linguistic continuity, archaeological evidence, and DNA. According to ancient sources, the Illyrians are considered a distinct group with unique tribal names, personal names such as Teuta, Agron, and place names such as Scodra, Drilon, around 230-231 BC, which differed from the neighboring Greeks, Thracians, and Dacians. These names are still used by Albanians. Linguists analyze these names and compare them with other Indo-European languages, including Albanian, which preserves base words such as bri, "horn"; dele, "sheep", which is still used in the Albanian language, is believed to have originated from the Illyrians. Then there are the archaeological finds. The evidence supporting the idea that the Illyrians spoke a distinct language, separate from Greek, Thracian, Dacian or Latin, comes from a combination of historical, linguistic and archaeological sources, further highlighting the cultural and linguistic identity of the Illyrians. Finally, let's not forget the groundbreaking DNA studies of ancient remains in the Balkans, which somehow show that these ancient populations are genetically linked to modern Albanians in places like Kosova, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece and North Macedonia. But hey, feel free to dismiss it as "nationalist nonsense" - after all, the burden of proof is on those who deny it, not the other way around.

    • @Scion3Sevens
      @Scion3Sevens 13 днів тому

      @@ChildrenOfTheEagle 1. DNA has NOTHING to do with language - so toss that out immediately. 2. We have no knowledge at all of what language Illyrians spoke - nothing is recorded and they had no written language - and were probably not one people, but many in a sort of confederacy.

    • @ChildrenOfTheEagle
      @ChildrenOfTheEagle 12 днів тому

      @Scion3Sevens While DNA might not directly influence the structure or vocabulary, it plays a significant role in understanding the history and evolution of languages. DNA allows researchers to trace human migration patterns, population mixing, and prehistoric contacts-factors that shape how languages spread, diverge, or influence one another. So by tossing the interdisciplinary approach of DNA research because you dont think it'simportant is like saying "why use tools when guessing wildly is so much easier"

      @ChildrenOfTheEagle 18 днів тому

      Actually, the Albanian words for the sea and related terms have deep historical roots. For example: -Det (sea) likely comes from Proto-Indo-European roots like danu- or dhen, making it thousands of years old. -Anije (ship) may have evolved later, influenced by Latin or Greek, but the Illyrians, ancestors of Albanians, had ships and maritime terms. -Val (sail/wave)reflects ancient tools tied to seafaring, likely from Illyrian or early Albanian usage. -Peahk (fish) comes from Latin piscis, introduced during Roman times, over 2,000 years ago. The idea that Albanians lack sea-related words is incorrect. Their maritime heritage, dating back to the Illyrians along the Adriatic coast, proves otherwise.

    "The language of the Albanians is unformed and adulterated. In many areas Italian elements have been incorporated into the language, in others Greek and in others Slavonic. Therefore Albanians who live fifty or sixty miles apart do not understand each other. In addition, there are racial differences between the Gegs who live in the wild north and the Tosks in the less rugged south. One would say that they belong to different ethnicities. And indeed this is the case. It would be easy to prove that the Albanians are not one people but half a dozen peoples." Sir John Foster Fraser, "Pictures from the Balkans", CHAPTER XXIV. THE ALBANIANS, p. 257-258)

    • @ChildrenOfTheEagle
      @ChildrenOfTheEagle 18 днів тому

      Sir John Foster Fraser’s claim that the Albanian language is "unformed" or "adulterated" must be spot on, right? I mean, languages that borrow a few words here and there are obviously incomplete, right? Well, if that's your argument, let’s take a closer look at the Greek language.. Over time, Greek has casually picked up words from Latin, Turkish, and even English, but somehow, it's still considered the same language. Why is that? And let's not forget the many Greek dialects - Cretan Greek, Pontic Greek, Tsakonian Greek, Cypriot Greek… Apparently they are all from different regions and have different accents and expressions. So, if we take your cherry-picking argument into account, why not conclude that all these dialects are completely different languages from each other? Why doesn't linguistic research rush to call them separate languages? Oh.. I know! It's because that's not how it works. The Greek language is still the same language, even though there are completely different dialects. The same goes for the Albanian language. Modern research shows that, despite the Gheg and Tosk dialects sounding a bit different, they’re both part of the same Albanian language with a unique history and identity.

      Look, pal, Proto-Albanian didn’t exactly leave behind a treasure trove of ancient books or inscriptions-it was mostly an oral language, much like prehistoric African, Native American, or Aboriginal Australian languages etc. How it works is, modern linguists have determined that Albanian is one of the oldest languages in Europe through a mix of linguistic detective work: tracing cognates, analyzing phonetic shifts, and identifying borrowed words from Latin, Greek, Italian, Turkish, and Slavic. Phylogenetic studies, which use evolutionary biology methods to map language families, show that Albanian is a direct descendant of the ancient Illyrian language, making it a unique and ancient branch of the Indo-European family tree. So, while there may be no dusty manuscripts in forgotten libraries, the evidence etched in its words and structure speaks volumes about its ancient roots.
