    This is not recording digital audio. The moment you play a digital file through a headphone output, it becomes analog. For recording digital you'd need a digital media such as a MiniDisc recorder, a DCC tape recorder or DAT tape recorder. And not via an analog headphone jack but via an optical cable.

      It's a digital file into an analog format. The wording might not be technically accurate but regular folks understand that better than audiophile language.

I had such a hard time finding stuff online for how to do this (most people just saying there was no way to make it sound clearer than just putting it by a speaker and recording), but I knew there had to be another way, and this video's got me super excited to actually start recording better quality tapes. The title of this is extremely misleading, you aren't recording digital audio onto a cassette your recording the analog output of a digital source onto a cassette you are not recording digital audio. The title of this video implies that you're actually able to digitally record your signal on to an analog cassette

    • @soundelegy5987
      @soundelegy5987 3 місяці тому

      I think the title is extremely accurate. It's been online for 4 years and this is the first time I hear this. So all good :) If you think "How to record the analog output of a digital source onto a cassette tape" is a better title then you're not considering simplicity as a way to reach a broader audience. Most people just want their music coming from a phone or laptop onto a cassette. For them that's just digital to analog.

    • @bdwatkins2001
      @bdwatkins2001 3 місяці тому

      @@soundelegy5987 you may think the title is extremely accurate but if you were an audio professional you would know the difference and know why your title is incorrect. I'm not going to waste any more time but quit trying to bury things in the sand

    • @soundelegy5987
      @soundelegy5987 3 місяці тому

      And that's exactly why you're mistaken. You think this video is meant for audio professionals, maybe like yourself, but it's actually for regular folks with basic to no knowledge of the audiophile lexicon. That's why the title is spot on.

    Is it a big deal whether my device says mic or line in? I've read mic is meant for weaker signals and the sound will come out distorted. But many of the portable devices I've seen only have a mic input.

    • @soundelegy5987
      @soundelegy5987 4 місяці тому

      Haha I remember the first CDs as well, the mastering and mixing processes were so bad that vinyls had an edge for a couple years. Luckily my brothers and I understood quite fast that CDs were meant to die very fast because what's the point of saving your music in zeros and ones (binary code) in an external disc when you can save it directly on your HDD? New generations of external data storage would mean an even faster death of the format. And so came DVDs, Mini Discs, Blue Rays, etc. I think we had a maximum of 50 CDs before returning to vinyl once again. Thanks for sharing ✌🏻

      @@soundelegy5987 i in the first years till 93 ,had only 7 cds ,mainly because i went to Lisbon, Portugal to see concerts , and at the time this was a country still getting out of a dictatorship and records that were never released in Portugal because they were subversive to the minds of young men ,one when entering the stores had all organised by the name of the bands than you could look at all albuns from each band and buy whatever you wanted and cd´s that were better built ,i know i have 7 titles from those days ,were doble the price of a record (vinyl) and even thinking of buying this or that cd one would find another album that one really wanted and ended up buying two records instead of one cd ,in the 90´s in 93 the stores all closed and when opening again two weeks later only a few LP´s in the basement and all full of cds ,so the main reason why i bought morecds in 93 but when going to madrid,Spain they had all new albums in cd and also in vinyl ,so only in my country Portugal lp´s weren´t available and one started to notice that cds had not the same quality as records because ,thinking i would have a better sound but that was a wish of something better and in the 90´s cds were made of a cheaper material but in Portugal ,where i live and was born the cds become cheaper but if you ordered from the U.S. or U.K. or Germany they would be less expensive ,paying transport and also being tired of having a old system allthough today is still much better than most i hear in hi-fi stores or demonstrations i was tired of looking all my life to older stuff and i payed a lot of money for ES system from Sony ,well the next years after selling all boughta entire nakamuichi system because i was told they were the best ,not even a year later i sold everything again and having good hi-fi systems from Pioneer, i bought all pioneer minus the speakers that had already bought some new series of cerwin-vegas the most expensive model they had also some mission Argonaut mkII (200watts)and 96 DB /sensivety, and with a mix of second hand and new i had again a urushi pioneer complete system. being happy with the purchase i was in Lisbon for the weekend in a friends house that was renting the extra rooms of his house to 3 otherguys who instantelly become my friends ,they tell me thatin open air fair they were selling records ,very cheap and by what today is 20 cents.all labels were selling all albums from every band and also independent labels , i had taken a old merecdes to Lisbon a 71 350SE ,it is a huge car i filled it twice only leaving space to myself to drive, did this twice and at the third time i had to bring back my other 3 friends who also had bought albums fromm bands they didn´t like but because all were studying arts ,they bought the better looking covers ,and i don´t remenber how many but were thousands of titles, i even bought a new thorens turntable and i had already 7 good turntables, so cds were loosing the fight and bought many with great sound or never had heard the vinyl version, then CD-R appeared and i spent on a big pioneer recorder almost what today is 1.000€ and recording at standart speed but after all this years the older recorded cds i have still play perfec t and the quality was exactelly the same of the original but limited at 3 copy´s from each original cds ,.some that fell and were 20 years behind a piece of furniture ,all yellow and missing bit´s of the material where the music is recorded sound perfect ,the same can´t say abnout the cd-roms i had in early 2000´s but that´s when they started to have a quality very near the original some think there are no diferencies and recorded at 52X the strandart speed, now i started to record again cassettes because in 2017 i had a pioneer top end model deck the CT-93 and changed his belts and had boxes of tdk cassettes only sa-x and some SA and AR ,AD, AD-x as i always prefered type I cassettes because of the reels that have much better sound and mainly ferric tapes ,and more faithfull to the original sound,again earlier in time a friend who worked in a big surface warehouse phoned me and tells me "they are going to incinerate all cassettes they still have also minidiscs ,that i also brought some boxes of TDK and all were black ,again 400kms in the old mercedes and fit the most i could of boxes filled with cassettes and some of minidisc too maybe 2.000 only and i wanted to give some money to this friend to what he replyed "no, i don´t want money ,later you´ll pay me a beer", now i already recorded 120 cassettes and have restored 17 of my 58 cassette decks,this because my father died recentelly and all that was his related with music came to me my sister and brother didn´t want nothing of that garbage they told me and i have a huge colection of hi-fi components and music in all known formats and maybe 3 or 4 8-track cartridges that my father kept because it was what he hear with my mother when happy with her, in reality i have now maybe 5.000 cds and my father´s cds that he had good taste, so maybe he had around 10.000 cds and 20.000 records and also reels

    i have to add that audio technica in the 70´s was considered by some the best brand in turntable cartridges, stylus, arms etc. ,my technics SP-10 as a AT tonearm that was considered the best in the late 70´s it´s mc cartridge was also said to be one of the best, recentelly i´ve had dificulties to buy a new one that sounded good as the previous, not exactelly the same but bought a ortofon quintect black s and for a pioneer PLC-590 a AT-art 9 ,much cheaper and close to the ortofon who cost me a lot, that also had a diferent tonearm but from AT also i remenber seeing several SME arms but wasn´t a much diference from a technics titanium arm S-shaped and the geometry in SME was a lot of work compared to AT tonearms

      For sure. AT had top notch carts and tone arms. Excellent headphones overall as well. I'm happy they're having a comeback in the market. I have many friends using their new turntables nowadays. They are affordable and they sound really good for the price. In between Pro-Ject, the new Rega P1 and AT LP timetables, I think there hasn't been a better time for entry level setups. Maybe Japan during the 80s can only rival it. Thanks for sharing ✌🏻

    I saw already a video with the technics full automatic sold through out the 80´s and sold with a diferent box with the same system inside also using the T4P system also sold by grundig and pioneer and a lot of other brands, mostly in early 80´s. When they compared a very beaten technics turntable sold new under 100€ (direct convertion) with a Pro-Ject bought at 6 monthes by one of the man in the test when reading first the specifications they noticed that were very close in both manuals, but when playing records and getting all measures they noticed that the technics with a lot of use for the last 35 years was still having by 0,001 diference in several specifications and when measuring the 6 month Pro-ject(800€) was far from the speed it should had and all specifications were far from what was written in the manual ,they even bought a new one and it was also far from origynal specifications and the new measures while the beaten down technics that they bought cheap on ebay was almost as new and correct specifications as described and when putting a record on, now with AT stylus for the nagaoka developed cartridges or fabricated, the sound was much better and it was a full automatic technics no weight or anti-skating to correct but from factory and still working very close to new, i think that says all about new expensive turntables but only by hearing them i couldn´t belive how bad they sounded and using you´re hands to change the speed on the belt seems to me snake oil as we have in our hands a protective cover to our skin but handluing a belt it will be dirty it at first change of speed. When you refer red neck technology i went to my 12 years old when we repaired cars that my father gave to me, i had a fiat sport abarth with 40h.p. but fully equiped and because it was litle and red ,in highschool they called it the litle ferrari but age of drivers permit it´s only at 18 years old and because to avoid police in the city that it was close to none, i use to drive fast with 4 kids in the car ,including me ,the fast as a 40 h.p car can be in a dirt road we used to brake the chassi in half and correct it with gardening screw safeties for tightening hoses for watering with wooden round tubes using those metal screw to tight garden hoses and later with that working perfect when i was already 14 ,i trade it with a dirt bike only with 125cc´s.but professional one ,he colect old sportive fiats my fathers bank coleague and explain and showed him how it was under the car, to what he replied ,it´s better this way. where i live there is a lot of agriculture and men after a day of work first are going to a cofe shop ,kind of 19 th century style to drink a beer or a cup of wine ,all have red necks, as the first source of income in my region is agriculture , till the 80´s most of the people were using compact systems still with saphire needles and 8-track or cassette recorder, i had the luck of being from two big agricultural families ,the reason why i have old but good sound systems, since late 50´s valve amplifiers or tubes and speakers that looked more like traditional clothes closets with only 70 to 80watts with woofers of 60 to 80 cm´s of diameter and horn tweeters, my first tannoy speakers if i took the woofer i could seat inside confortably and couldn´t be moved by two men only
