I don't know about computer architecture, but what if apus were made in the size of a threadripper? Would they be able to offer more performance? Would it actually be possible to make?
Actually the new PS5 and Xbox Series X both have specially tailored SoCs powered by AMD's RDNA2 and Zen2 architectures integrated in an APU. Those consoles run AAA games in 4k at 60 FPS. So it is definitely possible and considering the ever growing price for GPUs, we all might be better using something like that.

The future looks very promising for these APUs indeed. Valve's upcoming Steam Deck portable console might be a huge leap forward. Will get mine in December and run some tests, stay tuned ;)
Right now consoles have the lead cause you can't build a 4K gaming pc for 500 dollars but when APUs get powerful enough in a year or two and with Intel bringing their new GPUs later this year, this will get very interesting.
