Im reacting to one of my first Pink Floyd songs ever!
You should definitely check out their Pulse live concert.
The singer on "Great Gig in the Sky" is Clare Torry. She was brought in to record that part and improvised the whole thing in like two or three takes. No doubt one of the greatest vocal performances in rock history.
Love pink Floyd, if your into brass listen to some frank zappa.
If you like saxophone listen to les claypool and the flying frog brigade live, that's a band/album
Listen to echoes
There suites i believe
Now imagine "1977" being with 80,000 people in the Olympic stadium in Montreal and attending a Pink Floyd concert. Add the visual aspect of the show as extraordinary as the music and songs. It wasn't being ahead of its time, It's now that music has gone backwards. It wasn't just Floyd who played this kind of progressive rock music But for me , Floyd was the best in my opinion, (I've been to 10 Floyd concerts), And I still listen to their records (vinyl) Please , Sorry for my English
77 year old here , first saw them in '67 can't remember if it was at the Roundhouse, Chalk Farm or the Marquee,Soho. This was obviously their memorium to Syd. Never played live until Pulse. I think the album was released 75/76. Correct me if I'm wrong. 🤔🤔💯
Why are you skipping through one of the best albums ever recorded 😮😊
Your microphone is too loud 😮
Lights are Floyds third element that fills out every live performance. I saw them live about 7 times and when the music joins the lights and the vibration of the base begins in your chest, well, I will see you on the other side. Leaving one of their performances was pure Euphoria.
Their Voices play like powerful instruments and their instruments sing like opera stars!
You need to think of it as all one musical journey that you are on. Atmospheres and tempos come and go but it is one continuous trip.
Now artists use autotune at their concerts or they lip synch the same track from city to city.
The band The Who had done a "rock opera" called Tommy, telling the story of an autistic child and the people around him. Pink Floyd here put together a story in an album, which later was made into a film about Pink who is a metaphor for Syd Barrett. This is a gripping story if you listen to and ponder on the lyrics. In the 60s to when the Berlin Wall fell was the cold war, with its scary nuclear threats but also wars around the world by proxy between democratic countries and Marxist ones. Even if the sky is blue, planes can still drop bombs. After having experienced that once, blue skies never feel safe.
Love it when people do a double take when they realize what the lyrics just said Wish You Were Here is about a rock band and the music industry The Wall is a metaphor about Syd Barrett who used to be in the band but had mental illness (related to Brain Damage which is about psychiatric surgery to try to fix psychoses). The radio keeps playing the same song from this album but it ought to be listened to in one pass, the whole album.
You really need to listen to Wish You Were Here, the album. Awesome stuff again. But The Dark Side Of The Moon is an amazing album, for ALL TIME.
Check out `Amused To Death` by Roger Waters. Jeff Beck on guitar amongst others. As always, listen to the whole album! 🤘😎👍
This is the first video that I've seen by you. So I don't know if you've ever heard or been given the suggestion to listen to the very first two Pink Floyd albums ("PINK FLOYD" and "A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS"). Early Floyd is amazing! But be warned.....it is NOTHING like "Dark Side, "The Wall", "WYWH" or "Animals". It's very 60's psychedelic stuff and maybe a song or two sound outdated now but I think you'd enjoy them, IF you want to consider yourself a true Pink Floyd fan. Syd Barrett, the one who left the band early on, due to way too many LSD trips, was the heart and soul of the early Floyd sound and wrote most of and plays guitar, on the first album. When the drugs became too much for him, he had his breakdown, so was only involved in a couple of songs, on the second, before they HAD to replace him with David Gilmour. Which makes "A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS" the only album in their catalogue on which all five original members played!!! Hope you enjoy them.
The only proper way to experience this album is in pitch black
Clare Torry was the vocalist on The Great Gig In The Sky. I have loved this song for over 50 years.
I could not hang bro. You cannot edit an iconic best selling album without offending many people’s sensiblities. I’ve been listening to this album for over 50 years. And to cut pieces out of it is like cutting the pieces out of my heart.
Hey Joe, It is no coincidence that listen is an anagram of silent. Pink Floyd has that happy knack of making one feel still after one of their albums has finished with you. 💠 Enjoy your path of discovery Brother
I love watching new youngsters listening to this album for the first time ever! I grew up listening to them, and passed it on to my son, who loves the Floyd...I was definitely fortunate to grow up in the best generation of rock-n-roll! Glad you enjoyed this, and yes, good saxophone player, yet David Gilmore is the master IMO. Check him out Live in Pompeii years later with his other band, David Gilmour.
RAM is a must hear for you. It is his most Beatle-y solo album & the production is right up there with Abbey Road ! Try to listen to the whole album at once, it needs to be heard that way. God, I envy you your journey, I'm 76 chronlogically ,but still 30 in my mind, still loving the music as if it were 1975.
Yeah this is fabulous - Dark Side of the Moon still one of the best of all time. As far as albums that are one continuous piece goes, there are two by Jethro Tull: "Thick As A Brick" (1972) and "A Passion Play" (1973). TAAB is my favorite album of all time, though Pink Floyd gives it a run for its money. TAAB was Jethro Tull leader Ian Anderson's (vocals, flute, acoustic guitar, and music) answer to critics who called Jethro Tull's previous album "Aqualung" a "concept album" which he declined. He decided to create the "mother of all concept albums", and did this "parody" of concept/prog music which also turned out to be among the top 5 prog albums of all time while making friendly fun of it! Once among the "best of all time" whether Floyd, Beatles, Stones, Jethro Tull, you can't really rank between them.
Animals is a blinding album, but it is very dark. My friend group and I discovered that listening to it too much can actually have a negative affect on mental well-being. It's too good to ignore, but you must play it once or twice and then give it a break for a while. Amazing how some lyrics can reduce your mental wellness. Just goes to show the power of words. Like bullets, words have consequences and once fired they cannot be stopped. Try The Alan Parsons Project for some more good sounds. He worked at Abbey Road Studios on DSOTM. A top top producer and a musician in his own right. You will also like Ozric Tentacles. Their catalogue is extensive. Start with Pungent Effulgent, and Strangitude. Two fine examples of their craft. Erpland, and Durassic shift are the next albums you might try. Don't ignore Led Zeppelin though. They will give you plenty of those chills that you love. You're a great host and a fine youn man. Your parents must be very proud of you Joe. Keep em coming dude. Oh, I almost forgot The Orb, Adventures In The Underworld. And last but by no means least for now, Kraftwerk and their best Album in my opinion, Electric Cafe. But check out Led Zep after watching The Wall, The Movie. All the best to you my Musical time traveller 👌
For more clarification on the sentiment of Rodgers lyrics, watch the movie. It frames the lyrics in a visual capacity. You won't regret it. I promise.
Oh yeah! Movie!
Give Led Zeppelin a go. Maybe you already have. A different vibe, slightly more raw, but they are consumate musicians, and Robert Plants voice will blow you away.
A good Pink Floyd gig to watch is Delicate Sound Of Thunder, Live At Earls Court. The Album was taken from one of those dates.
Have a look at a video of them touring with Delicate Sound Of Thunder. It is a mad live Album, and you will dig the saxophonist.
Why did you edit out parts of the songs? Honest question.
The gal singing the song with no words, story is. they thought of adding some vocals, someone in the studio said they knew of this gal, so they brought her in. She did 2 takes and left. She wasn't even sure they were going to use her material. She was surprised when the album came out and the song was on it. Years later she took Floyd to court to get song credit. They didn't tell her what to sing, and all the vocals were her's. Judge gave her song rights and credit, and is now credited with the song, and getting music fees.
You are far too young to be able to truly understand the depth & complexity of this music. However , when you reach your late 30's & 40's , you will at long last begin to understand. And every year that goes by, you will have a deeper & truer understanding. It will NEVER get old or out of fashion. I envy you your journey ! Explore Syd Barrett - after all he started the group and he was their songwriter , lead guitarist & lead singer ! He was amazing & tragic at the same time.
So glad you are listening. 😊
Great review and reaction! You're editing was perfect. Play some more Floyd. Might be torn between another fav.
The 50th year anniversary edition has more a surround sound to it
where'd you go? Missing your reactions....
After listening to Pink Floyd for nearly 60 years I can safely say you're not guilty of exaggeration. This music will last you a lifetime. Lap it up young dude. Have fun.
Can you imagine being there, surrounded by thousands of people, but above all surrounded by the 232,000 Watts of unbridled music power? Throughout the tour, newspapers raved about the "perfect quadraphonic sound system". One reporter, Michael Norman of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, was moved to write: "No rock band can match Pink Floyd when it comes to making a stadium show come off sounding as if it's being held in your living room."
The older I get, the more of Pink Floyd I listen to, the more I get from it. Obscured by clouds, Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish you were here, and The Wall are all incredible. Listen to all of them again and again.
Bruv. Listen to Time. The lyrics are sooo true.
Hi Joe - I really hope that you haven't given up on this channel. Also nothing on your Patreon for a long while and still waiting for your review of 'The Wall (part 2). I (and many others) enjoy your reviews and would be very disappointed if you don't carry on.
thank you ! I have not given up … new video this week ! part 2 on patreon aswell
@@jonathenmother - that’s great news! 😊
Let the lists go...listen from your heart
Você está cometendo o maior erro nesse disco , ele tem que ser escutado sem interrupção , pq uma música abre a outra
I really wanted to listen. Between you're interruptions and ads, I gave up and listened to the artist version
I enjoyed this video, but do you know what music production is?
Pink Floyd production will always beat the Beatles, just because of the technology developments in that era. Dark Side of The Moon is obviously an amazing album, though I think my favourite Pink Floyd album is Wish you Were Here. I also love the Beatles though, with my favourite album being Sgt. Peppers
