Wow, great Bimble, thoroughly enjoyed it. I live on the south west side of Manchester and used to explore/walk along the canal towpaths. I hardly recognise Manchester now as there has been so much development. I have to look out for the red brick walls/buildings to get my bearings! I've been wondering who has been providing your backing music, can I assume it's the Smiths? Best Wishes Pete

Not as bad as the horror at Tatton Park you have to pay to park, pay for any activity that is on and if you order a tea and produce a credit card you have to spend over £10 or they will pour your tea in the sink like they did with me! That’s the horror of the National Trust! 😂

i think they should do a cycling patch there with flat road, would be nice :p

When I was a lad I would cycle from my home in Bold Road over the borough boundary at Travers Entry, down to Burtonwood passing the pub” Fiddle I’th Bag. On reaching the Sankey Canal we would wait for the sugar barge to come along, then we would lend our bikes to the barge man who walked the tow path operating the locks. For that we got to ride on the barge. Once at Sankey Sugar works we were lifted off and given our bikes back. We alway had in our pocket a hanky, it was filled with brown sugar and the four corners were tied together. Our Mam was always made up, we got away with being late home. Great memories watching the Glasgow to Euston express racing on to Warrington B. Q. Station later the two diesels 1000 & 1001 after the war the Americans built the bridge over the brook, canal & the railway just passed the pub. Late 1940 / early 50’s I will be 87 on New Year’s Day

Nice walk. Yes I call it the Butchersfield Cut, which was made by the Mersey and Irwell Navigation Co. to avoid a huge meander. It became expedient to push the River Mersey down the Cut when the MSC was built. Many thank again. Pete

When I was near to the daresbury tower in summer there were cows swimming in the canal and loving it that is first time that I have ever seen that.

Brilliant! Picking up rubbish is not a bad way to waste a bit of time either. I read a lot of David Sadaris. He is an American author who has a bit of a twisted and humorous view on life. He has a few homes, one of which is in West Sussex. He collects so much rubbish, they've commissioned a refuse truck with his name on the side!! 😆

As a student in 1969 worked for Stockport Highways during the Summer break. One of a series of interesting jobs was to move the signpost featured in the video from its original position about 20 metres South of where it is now. The signpost is very, very, VERY heavy - it took more than ten of us to carry it. Great video, lots of memories.

i finally get to see where that canal path went out of town, ty for going that way :) they need to clean that plughole. Nice to hear history of things, often drove past the arch & wondered why only that was left... i enjoyed the video !
