Davinci Resolve/ Fusion - X Ray Effect Tutorial (Reddit Request)
This is not one of my "properly produced" tutorials. I saw an effect on a reddit thread so I replicated it and shared it to help the OP recreate the effect. Why not share it with everyone? This barely has any cuts. Just me screen recording and chatting.
What do you think about these kinda videos. Videos that show me working through the process, showing the lil issues, working through them etc. Should I do uploads like this from time to time?

Pretty sweet
Also, right now I have "EVERYTHING", a "3D elements" and a "original plate" layers views, i have a 52 frame animation. Hit render, and its rendering ONLY everything layer. What am I doing wrong? haha. There's also "SLOTS" or something that is part of rendering management.... I obviously don't understand something and i'm getting tripped up with this.
Is there a way to render just ONE layer? Like if you made an adjustment that doesn't effect the background and you want to save on render time and only render another portion of the image?
It is amazing bro. Thanks for sharing that ! i really enjoyed and got hyped about it. I can see camera movement doesn't perfectly match with footage. How can we improve it ?
I also tried doing this but my objects were sliding around a little bit on the ground, Amy solutions to that?
Did you remember to set the focal length value from resolve?
This is the cleanest, best tutorial I have seen on this subject. One thing you did that I've seen others do as well: adding the reference objects. What's the purpose of doing this? I'm guessing it's to represent depth and scope in the video in Blender, but I haven't seen anyone explain WHY they do it. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for checking the video out and commenting! As for the reference objects. It's mainly to get the position of things in 3D space. It's even more important here since the trackers don't transfer over to blender. Lets say I wanted to put a tall tree next to the pyramid. Without knowing it's exact location in 3D space I would have to guess. It might look good on one frame but if the camera moves too much the object might appear to slide around. Simply because it's not in the right position. Also, if I wanted to cast shadows on the pyramid, I would need a shadow catcher in that exact position to not have it slide around.
This is gold man, thank you
Thanks! I love doing motion graphics in Fusion and I want more people to know that it's possible. I've replaced After Effects completely.
Love it ! Straight to the point. Thx.
I'm glad you found some value here! :)
This was super helpful. Thanks mate.
Awesome! Glad to hear you found it helpful.
I can't say much about the content for now, as the sound is packed with way too much depths and too few middle and higher tones. I even have turned down bass at the lowest here. If I don't forget, I'll try it later again with headphones as the content seems to be interesting. subbed anyways. Thanks and have a good day, Sir!
Hey guys, if you want to make sure it works from anywhere, just add another line after the first line like this. cd "C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender 3.5" C: if Blender installed in drive D add a D: That will fix the drive change issue. Have a nice day.!
Thats awesome man! Thank you so much for producing this.
made me an extra 16gb today, Thanks!
i'm the guy from Reddit who posted the patio wedding thing, danm you really good with this! You deserve more subs bro!
you can activate some icons through the filter on the outliner where you can click one button to activate hidout mode and all
hi, 9:36, if you make something in few hours time as you said....then by what means you make money with this piece of 3d?
bro how you can change the shadow hardness and direction ? i don`t know how i make a soft shadow with this hdri becouse i don´t add any light
This was great! Thanks for the quality tut!
Great tutorial my friend, please I have a question, I don't know why for some reason, when Import the scene from fusion to blender. The tracking is messed up and the objects keeps sliding. I had a solve error of 0.27 on fusion, I guess it's neat , but I Don know what's happening in there, can you pls help? Thanks
Sure thing. At 6:52 you can see the focal length and the plane the footage would be on don't line up. You will need to add the camera's focal length to stop things from sliding around. Lemme know if it helps.
@@terr20114 yo ! It's works !!!! OMG YOU SAVED MY LIFE BRO ; I had this issue and had been working on t it for more than 3 hours straight lol ! thanks a million
@@anchorfeast 😁Nice! I'm glad I was able to help. This issue stressed me out for DAYS before I realized what was happening. For some reason the focal length doesn't get exported or blender doesn't import it.
@@terr20114 damn bro ! that's frustrating, thank God we have u on this planet otherwise a lot of poeple will get in trouble lol
top tier tutorial man
very interesting. don't you think it is more efficient to do the motion tracking in blender and just the final comp in davinci?
@@Benn25 it can be. Personally I think it comes down to how comfortable you are with the tool. Blender’s camera tracker is good but requires more manual work so for a more complex track it might be better. Resolve’s tracker can be a quick, one click auto solution for an easy shot like this one. On my personal and client projects I use Syntheyes but I don’t use it on tutorials since it’s a whole separate paid application which would require a tutorial for itself. So if you’re fast and efficient with Blender’s tracker then it might be the better option for you. (Ian Hubert has a really cool tutorial)
@@terr20114 thanks for the follow up. that was pretty much my conclusion as well. thank you for sharing.
@@Benn25 You're welcome, man!
🔥 🔥 that was dope
Bro, this tutorial is great, but the music is very annoying
Thank you. Great tutorial!
Great tutorial ❤
Insane 💥
Amazing content, dude. Please don´t stop. I have a question, and excuse my ignorance. I know nothing about rigging, but will it be much easier to do the rigging if I use an addon like Auto Rig Pro?
Really appreciate that you checked out the video. These comments are the ones that drive me to make more 😄. Now to your question. Auto rig pro is great for 3D models since it was made to rig 3D characters and in this case we're mostly working with 2D meshes. Reorganizing the rig generated by Autorig pro might end up being more trouble than it's worth. The artwork I chose for example, she had one long hand and a short one cause she had the glass so that arm was a bit weird. A 2D character in a scene might have an empty right hand that requires finger bones while the left has a phone do it needs no bones. These little nuances add to why making a custom rig might be better. On the other hand though, If Auto rig pro has quick options that allow you to do something like select 2 joints and click one button to make an IK chain, then it would be great to have those little things to speed up the process.
@@terr20114 Thank you so much for such a detailed answer.
this is the only proper video I found to start with vfx with just these two programms but you need resolve studio 😔
The holdout comes in handy when you have a layer that is sandwiched in between another layer. For example you have a dust layer with dust in front of and behind a moving object for example. Say you have a helicopter kicking up dust when it lands. You have some dust in front of the helicopter you want to see, and some behind the helicopter you want to obscure, but that dust layer is alpha over the helicopter.
Damn, it worked!
Nice! Glad it worked for you.
Awesome work, thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!!!!
Was this done on the free version of Davinci Resolve?
No, I tried you need the studio version, which is cheaper than AE
hey does it work for VSE ?
genius
