Frederic Malle Heaven Can Wait First Impressions
Synthetic Jungle is one of the few in my collection that really does smell very different depending on the weather/season. Sometimes I get a ton of black currant; other times, hardly any. And that almost off, sour smell you discuss is not something I get in cooler weather, but on a hot summer day....yikes. I sprayed it the other evening and instantly regretted it. It was hard to believe it was the same perfume. And in cooler weather, the lily of the valley in the heart is huge whereas in hotter weather it is not. When the FM site still had the info up, the part I remember was Anne Filipo saying that the "synthetic" part came from her use of one aromachemical that she said made all the other notes become hyper real. Have to take her word for it, but makes sense to me!
@@DaveNYC great observations it really is a shape shifter! Thanks for the info about Anne.
Have you tried rose & cuir????
@@pullingthestrings5233 yep I have it, it definitely could be categorized as green but I'm saving it for a rose video.
@@cheapimitation2242 ohh nice. Can't wait to see that video.
I have a sample of Geranium Pour Monsieur that I hadn't tried yet so I sprayed it as you were talking about it haha. I really like it and I definitely understand the moutwash inspiration that Malle had, it has that cool freshness that some products that a man would be using in the morning like aftershave or mouthwash have 💪
I confirm the Synthetic Jungle name change comes from lawsuit threats over the jungle part.
I struggle with the price point for both Geranium Pour Monsieur and Cologne Bigarade in the past. Always wanted a bottle but I think they weren't on discounters back then. I might look into it now.
I was never able to get along with Music for a While. It wasn't the pineapple, just the way the patchouli is treated reminds me of many modern masculines.
@@algebraist1997 yea it can be a tough one. Ultimately I came around to like it for its uniqueness, particularity in cooler weather.
@@cheapimitation2242 I will revisit it. I never really payed much attention to Dans tes Bras and ended up loving it, so this one deserves more time too.
Patchouli and pineapple you say? It sounds like Coach for Men Platinum
I love the synthetic jungle in the background. I always like the relaxed reviews you give as if you are being honest with a friend. I wanted to say that Costco sells discounted perfumes which include a small selection of Frederic Malle. Anyways, great review as always!
@@R.N.19 thank you! That's a good tip about Costco, I did notice it coming up when I was searching for good prices on Malle but I couldn't see the price without a membership, are the prices good?
@@cheapimitation2242 So I did some digging and there are different price points. L'eau D'hiver = $204.99 Carnal Flower= 254.99 Lipstick Rose = 189.99 Noir Epices= 229.99 I saw review for Carnal Flower and a customer mentions that the perfomamce is weaker than her first bottle. Idk if they reformulated it or the reformulation happens because it will be sold wholesale. I'm afraid of the latter because it makes sense that they could make a bigger profit margin on a weaker perfume.
@@cheapimitation2242a while back I purchased musc ravageur 100 ml for $129 so I thought it was a great price.
@@cheapimitation2242For some reason my reply got deleted. So I did some digging. Very good selections! As good as their heavy fragrances are, I think this is the style that they have done exceptionally well. Even Rose & Cuir was good
Just purchased rose & cuir about a month ago and it's so good. I enjoy more than synthetic jungle tbh.
U recommend this over Santal ?
@@Panthere.vision I wouldn't recommend either but this is fresher and less complex.
I could not stand this release. It's also because I loath Santal 33 LOL. I enjoy your thoughts. Don't ever stop.
There will come a time in which he must stop.
Well done review. Surprising. I thought Pharrell might have done something interesting. Maybe wanted to something commercially successful out the gate before doing something creative? We’ll see.
Nice thoughtful review
Thanks!
Your preamble applies to probably 90% of modern fragrances, especially niche brands or so-called 'high end' (lol) designer fragrance lines. I think most people just want to smell more or less the same as everyone else, and it feels kinda cool to drop $250-400 on something 'exclusive' oOooo. I just feel bad for the general consumer, who hasn't wasted as much of their time as people in the hobby have, and who don't know that most of these scent profiles can be found elsewhere for twenty bucks.
I love every Le Labo i tried, i didnt even force myself, i just enjoy them a lot. Musc is something i would give a large amount of money for, no problem, love it too much
I think that 3% rule sometimes works in an amazing way, sometimes it absolutely failes. His The 10 Nike collaboration was a great example on how to do 3%, but in perfumery its almost like copying and being lazy, doesnt work most of the time imo
Le Labo Bergamote 22 and Chanel Edition Blanche are my favorites for hot sunny weather right now. I usually like powerful ambers for summer for some reason
Great list. I adore Eau de Guerlain, and in a similar vein I'd like to recommend Ninfeo Mio by Annick Goutal. One of the only other fresh citrus fragrances that I believe nails that creamy aspect, without resorting to heinous aroma chemicals.
On the topic of price, it definitely shows you can have garbage at all formula budgets and all retail prices. I think Sophia Grojsman is one of the best examples of a perfumer being able to make evocative fragrances with signature that were cheap to produce but didn't smell cheap, even to a perfumer knowing their construction. It sets her apart from everyone else. I would not wear Trésor for example but I have the utmost respect for it.
Albert Camus said life is meaningless. And instead of creating beautiful perfumes in the blank canvas of meaninglessness, companies decide to create banality in the form of a "perfume"
Love that!
@@cheapimitation2242 Thanks! I've been thinking of expressing myself more through writing or video format. So your comment definitely encouraged me.
Well Said! Cheers!🎉🎉🎉
@@raucusretread Thank you💗
How can i tell which D&G was made in France if I'm buying online??
I have no idea. Used to be that's the one widely available so if you ordered from a discounter that's what you get. I hear the license changed hands again but the current is good too so I personally wouldn't worry about what version I got.
@@cheapimitation2242 Thanks for the response. Peace and blessings be upon you.
Nice selection. I find lemon drops candies vibes in Aqua Viva, I prefer Orangea.
Great video! My grandmother used to wear “Musk” by Alyssa Ashley unisex oil from the 1970s. I saw it recently in a dusty case in the back of a drug store. I picked it up. I wear it now and then. Great scent memories.
These house grouped vids are great! The Bigarades are on my list. Need to figure out which. Not too late for this summer.
Thanks! I'll try to keep em coming.
I'm lucky to have gotten a 125 ml bee bottle filled with Mouchoir de Monsieur while I was in Paris from Guerlain. L'Heure Brilliante is stunning, I'm 99% sure galbanum with the bitterness toned down. (Lots of tricks for this, including fruity notes and ylang.)
Nice! I've smelled Jicky but not Mouchoir. There are some great ones among the Les Heures!
Great selection! Need to smell that kumquat one! And love the varying back drop accessories you use, art, vase etc. A very nice touch. I find myself looking forward to your content!
Thank you! I try to add some visual interest since you don't have my face to look at. 😂
I would recommend to try Ambre Suprême by Les Indemodables. A long lasting, complex, and fresh edp. The ambergris is so fresh and outsdanding, not fishy or too salty. It's a bit too sweet for my taste but it is fantastic.
I have tried it but good call! Somehow it didn't connect with me as much, I think I wanted a bit more going on. But maybe I should pull out my sample and give it another go.
@@cheapimitation2242 Ambre Suprême definitely needs heat so try it on your skin on a hot day. I'm not saying it will take your breath away or it will be the next No. 5, however the amber gris is quite interesting and nuanced.
I absolutely get what your saying about afternoon swim there’s that animatic ambergris in the base which doesn’t sit right with me personally. I couldn’t get past it so I decided to get pacific chill as I liked it on my skin better.
Excellent choices for a hot, grimy, NYC day!! I used to have Escale en Indonesie but it was way, way, way animalic on my skin - I'm very sensitive to marine accords. Stay cool!!
i’m in love with you i think
Haha, wow I'm flattered!
We're definitely not getting a heatwave here
Let's trade! 😅
It was 119 degree f or 48 Celsius here in my city yesterday 😂. Today it's only going to be 47 C*
*cypress not juniper for Acqua Viva, same family at least!
Nice, diverse selection! I just got a bottle of Les Indémodables Chypre Azural that I’ve been enjoying in this swamp that’s happening outside. I feel like Lie was inspired by Hermes Cologne d’Orange Vert but was like, what would happen if I really made it last a long time? I was actually thinking back to our comments recently about FM Cologne Indelible and thought, this is how you do it! Separately, I was visiting a friend in Miami in the spring and found a bottle of Eau de Guerlain literally stuffed in a bathroom drawer next to deodorant and toothpaste (😱). I don’t remember it exactly, but I was impressed with how nice it was, especially the oak moss note. Anyway, stay cool!
I've got the Les Indemodables discovery set I'll have to revisit Chypre Azural in the heat, I do remember the orange hanging on for a very long time with that one. Stay cool too!
Good selection 🎉
Fantastic Selections! Escale en Indonesie has been on my list to buy after Vanille H for a While. Haven't smelled the Cartier exclusive freshies.. hearing good things..
Vanille Havane is on my Les Indemodables wish list as well but I REALLY want to smell the new one as an orange blossom lover. The Cartier Les Epures are very realistic but they don't do much else, lovey but just wish they were cheaper. I also really want to try their latest lilac one.
Comete is definitely a masterpiece from Chanel. They hit it out of the park again. I immediately purchased the 200ml. Chanel does not follow trends and does what is right for them. For reference I’m 19 and Chanel is in my top 3 brands of all time. I own 6 exclusifs and plan to get many more. Chanel can also be for the younger audience.
If you like Polge's use of musk, you should try 1957 which uses like 3 types of musks allegedly. Anyways it's funny you mention your mom and her fragrance, my mom also influenced me in my quest and love of fragrance. She uses perfume everyday to the point that we can recognize her coats by the scent. I guess one day I will thank Alberto Morillas for my mom's scent.
Yep I've got 1957, it was actually the second Chanel I purchased! Haha love the story about your mom!
@@cheapimitation2242 A very European musk. I like Polge's clean almost ephemeral perfumes
I adore Comete. Something about how it wears is just right for me
All I got from comete was sour cat litter and plastered walls
Neat Pickup! Comète has gone down fast indeed with my 75ml😅
In the end everyone is entitled to buy what they like and I don't want to hinder anyone's enjoyment but this is such a banal almondy iris that seems to now be a staple of both designer and niche. Similar has been launched today in the new Fendi collection, and one can point to dozens of others. It completely fails to nail the concept as well. You need a mineral aspect surely for the idea of a comet and a sense of heat as well as sparkling quality that means a lot more than just throwing in some aliphatic aldehydes for that "Chanel DNA." Instead, this is totally on trend and would suit many other names. It's also an excellent example of how great materials don't make a great fragrance. I don't doubt it probably has more orris butter in there than the majority of competitors and it feels totally wasted on a bland accord.
I've got a bottle of Comete cuz I am a fan of the line, but I share some of your opinion. With such a grand name, I feel the scent did not do it justice. The young, sweet feel of Comete has led me to thinking this one is just to tap into the mass market. It sits at the bottom of the line along with 1957 for me.
Hi do you have a fashion channel ?
I don't, when I started this channel I thought about doing a mix of fashion and fragrance, but at this point I think it would be weird since everyone subscribed is here for fragrance.
Great review. Love king blue. Got a bottle and have been really enjoying it!
how can I get one now im so sad

Thanks for this video. I don’t associate FM with summer. You’ve inspired me to take a deeper dive.
Great overview! My take on Indelible is that it’s a traditional cologne seen through a scrim, in soft focus and flattering lighting. The musk really makes it fuzzy. Also, definitely not indelible on my skin! Four hours tops. Tho I do like it at the end of the day.
Perfect analogy, cologne through a scrim. It delivers on the "indelible" part for me, I was just thinking when I woke up this morning "I still smell so good!" But I know perception of these musks can vary wildly. I see that some people are finding Acne Studios nuclear and abrasive but I find its projection and longevity kind of soft and polite.
There is an ambery note in Bigarade Concentree I noticed, before ever reading the note pyramid. I would smell it side by side directly with the Atelier Cologne, you should see the sweetness stick out then. The Bigarade Cologne is greener and lacks that ambery note - they are different formulations. Even if you wanted to pass from one concentration to another retaining the same scent, you'd have to alter the proportions in the formulation.
Yes I know this about concentration changes, but when I smelled Bigarade at the store I was surprised how similar it was to the Concentree. More of a difference in density than difference of smell to me.
It might be time to stock up on old favourites. Now that Malle has severed ties with the company he sold to the Lauder Group about a decade ago.
Great overview! wish they'd done more fresh citrus scents and possibly explored new territory. They seem to have abandoned anything aromatic fresh in recent years. Maybe Uncut Gem to some extent but not much else.
Excellent coverage of an excellent house. I enjoy the way FM deals with all things citrus. The only one I don't own is Sale Gosse. That is the only scent that I have always been a tad on the fence. When you mix Bigaraade conc with all of the ancillary products you can get a strong 6-7 hours in an office setting. I usually reapply anyway at hour 5. Stay Cool! Cheers! 🎉🎉🎉😊
Thanks!
I'm going through more of an incense phase currently. However, I have in my collection a couple of Cire Trudons - Spiritus Sancti and Carmèlite. I dig that church incense vibe of the former. It's very clever how they managed to evoke old mossy walls given the olfactive notes listed for Carmèlite. They are both very calming. The first scented candle I bought was Diptyque Canelle. It doesn't really smell like any cinnamon I've encountered. It is a very comforting smell. I also liked their Feu de Bois. Of course many other companies have used that theme since. I think the original one is hard to beat.
