@@christinadibernardo4081 yes, but if you know French you'd know that the accent there on the "é" makes an "ay" sound. Check out native French speakers ClemenceCC review to hear that my pronunciation is correct. 😀
Great video
Amazing patchouli hole you fell in! I’ve got the Borneo and Monsieur. Thx for the coromandel parfum tip! Have you tried Nicolais Patchouli intense? One of my top 10 faves. The have at New London Pharmacy on 8th Ave to sample. Can’t wait for your incense hole round up!!!
@@orosz4001 I do have a sample of the Nicolai, it's a weird one! Haha I didn't really love it or hate it, but I remember the first time I tried it thinking "what the heck am I smelling?" For some reason everything I tried in the Nicolai discovery set really didn't do it for me, but the Patch was probably my favorite of the lot.
I have Fougueuse and Brilliante and a couple from the Oud line. I love what she's done with these lines and will continue to pick them up as i run across deals (never retail) lol. Thank you for the info on the others ✌🏻
Les Indemodables Patchouli Noisette is as good as it gets when it comes to a clean, pure patch in my eyes. Maybe not as 'complete' of a composition as some of your suggestions but man, I love that cypriolic dry aura about it. Monsieur I own, adore but dont reach for alot. I find it a skeletal, barebones patchouli with tangy metallic facets from the rum and tangerine.
@@ryanx3584 I tried it from a small sample and wasn't wow'd by it but I would like to give it a more thorough testing.
This was a wonderful video... I guess I was on vacation last month when you put this out.... Cheers ✌🏻
@@JONATHAN-db2ry thank you! Who knows what the algorithm is up to when it comes to new vids showing up in peoples feeds
Nice selection. I really love Borneo, so I need to see if I can find another one that equals my love of Serge. Funnily, I haven't tried Profumum Roma's yet.
19:36 😂😂
Can You Please Give Me The Name Of The Anteus Smell Alike? Thank You..🙏🏽
@ it's actually called "A Parfum" by Ann Demeulemeester. That's probably why you didn't catch the name! 😂
@ Thank You So Much For Getting Back To Me.. I Appreciate It.🙏🏽 Great Content..
Can’t recall if in the past you’ve sampled Jovoy’s Psychédélique? As you probably know, it’s often called the king of damp, earthy patch’s (albeit one that descends-or ascends, depending on one’s preferences-to a much more benign vanilla-cocoa drydown). I’m on the fence with it. I don’t find it to be as wonderful a wear as many people do. 🤷🏻♂️Now, as for your incense love…Bring. It. On. ✊🏻
@@EyeByBrian it's one I've heard so much about but never tried! I'll have to remember to ask for it at Scent Bar next time I'm there. I have a feeling already owning coromandel and Borneo I may not find it necessary to have, but still very interested to try it out.
Nice selection. I really need to try Monsieur. Everything you said that put you off of it is right up my alley lol. Also want to smell the Ann. I wore Antaeus back in the late 80s and despite what many people say, I don’t think the current version is all that good. Now I’m thinking maybe the Ann would scratch the itch. Here’s to cooler temperatures starting tomorrow. This autumn has been way too warm!!
@@DaveNYC I think Atelier might have the Ann perfume. I know I've been waiting for some real cold to bring out the heavy stuff but it never comes! Monsieur is weird, I found the dry down today very soft and subtle but I remember thinking it was such a strong fragrance the first time I tried it. Maybe it was actually toned down or I'm just used to the smell now or going nose blind, but I found it very easy to wear today.
@ thank you! I will check Atelier. And then taunt Pradeep if I get it 😛
Great selections! I struggle with the note a bit but coming around to more. Curious about Ann but nowhere to test here
@@pradeep_sekar there's gotta he some store in Paris that stocks it but I don't know where! At least in U.S. the stockists seem to be smaller boutiques that carry Ann's clothes but not so much perfume shops.
both divine scents. sadly, both skin scents. Im wearing Jub xxv today. 15 sprays and no one besides me knows Im wearing it. I have 2 decants of Jub 40- just as quiet..who cares you can smell it 3 moths later on your hoodie. these things are a spectacular let down, for the price..even on discounts. I think the way they project, the sillage and 360 bubble, it should be $ 40 and $ 60 :-)))..one of the greatest scents profile ever created..my buddy this morning comes to my office, after I sprayed 12x Jub xxv, he goes man, that Starbucks smells good..I was sipping on my coffee and it out worked the cologne..its just bizarre, the performance
It mellows ,in hours ,pleasant , sniff in the room the presence of Aoud
I musch prefer the normal Jubilation just because it's not that sweet and seems to be more wearable. Nice comparasion video!
@@DanielsFragranceJournal thanks! I can see what you mean, I didn't think 40 was sweet but I could really smell the sweetness in comparison to XXV.
I agree mate...i think old jubilation is perfect for me.very nice office scent.
Great, thorough comparison. And love the Klimts! I’ve been patiently waiting for this to show up at discounters.i didn’t realize it has shown up! Thx for the heads up. I’ve got a spray on my coat sleeve that I’ve been enjoying from a run through Bergdorf the other day, it sticks around!
@@orosz4001 thanks! It really does last and smell nice on clothes! I got it from fragbuy.ca and stacked some coupons with points I had to sweeten the deal. 😂
Nice Tfs
I fully agree with your comments on diffusion, and I was pleased with the subtlety. Quite surprising for Amouage. I do like Jubilation 40, but for some reason I just relive Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir every time I spray it. It’s a great scent, but it’s one I’ve grown used to as a room fragrance. I can’t quite get past the idea of going out smelling like my reed diffuser…
@@Joseph-J- haha I've not smelled the Jo Malone but I can imagine what you mean!
@cheapimitation2242 try it, i get a very similar scent association too
Please review your Cuir de Russie extrait next!!
@@Oakmosslover promise I'll get to it soon!
It took me a while to get to the end because I had to research the new brands you introduced me to! I am so incredibly excited to try the Osten! My favorite brands have long been Trudon, DIPTYQUE, MFK, carriere freres. I so agree about the Trudon packaging - I really really do NOT like those huge bright gold labels. They 100% cheapen the entire look of the thing, particularly since so many of them are crookedly affixed. I’ve adored Fir and Madurai and Tuileries - have had the Versailles in my cart for a while but keep seeing reviews that say it’s too “delicate” which I absolutely do not want! That blue, though, is too stunning!
I had trouble hearing the candle names. What was the candle that came right after the Celine? I wish you had liner notes as your taste in scents and vessels is exquisite
@@MarcyOliver-x2o sorry I'm very lazy about annotating/time stamping my videos! The candle after Celine is by Xinu and the candle is called FlordeMusgo.
What was the 4th candle? Lees? Or lease? The one after the Malin and Goetz strawberry?
@@MarcyOliver-x2o yea the brand is Liis, this one is called translucent shifts
Wow, so glad I found you!! I am so curious about the Frederic Malle candles, as 3 of my all time fave perfumes are FM but for some reason I’ve not yet found a candle that spoke to me. Can you comment on the throw? For various reasons I absolutely need a VERY strong throw and i worry a bit when reviewers say a scent is “lovely and elegant and fresh” without any mention of the intensity. I blind - bought several Carriere Freres candles because I adored the vessels and the scents sounded intriguing (tomato leaf!! Spearmint!!!) but for me, they simply were not strong enough and I was so disappointed. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the FM. Thanks!
@@MarcyOliver-x2o FM throw is decent, Jurassic Flower in particular is very good. But not a huge throw compared to others, I'd say similar to Trudon.
@@MarcyOliver-x2o thanks for watching and the comments!
Wait, your the giggling guy from the 8th ave shops!? Kidding! :) great vid and format! Love covering lots of ground like that. And why things didn’t make it in to the collection. Thx!
see i think mfk oud smells like a dentist's office which i sometimes visit for the lulz
Love revisiting old decants and see how tastes or impressions change over time and with experience. ✌🏻
@@JONATHAN-db2ry yea totally!
Yeah you walked into those shops just for the lulz eh 😂, jk just pullin' your leg hahah
@@legoguru3000 😂😂 I reveal too much with this review! But it really was just for giggles 😂
you were/am a musician?
@@hoyaasmr8 hi, yep I'm a musician!
I used to feel this way, but oddly enough I grew to love these type of scents as I grew older. I only have a decant of APLS now, but will use other animalic powdery scents as substitutes although nothing can be a perfect replacement for APLS.
Great back story, ditching it after the date, with someone with no sense of smell. lol. Thx for sharing the old vid. I’ve been on an animalic bender for a bit. I’m hoping it’s still skanky!
Yea, I hope the new one retains its character even if the skank of the OG wasn't for me.
Your reviews are always very interesting! 👌On the subject of Absolue pour le Soir I so regret selling the bottle I had purchased over 10 years ago. I really loved it. Loved the feeling of a more ancient style of perfumery with more audacious musks. Yes, skanky, but so rich, dense and suave. The amber in the dry down was sumptuous! As much as I loved it, I always felt my personality and my wardrobe (!) didn't quite match the style of this perfume. Years later, the older me, I think, could pull it off! I am very curious about the 2024 relaunch. Will it be the same? - I found in Cartier Oud & Ambre a good compromise!
Same. I drained mine and regret not repurchasing. This is totally my style now. I am using Amouage Gold Men as a 'sort of' replacement but its not the same.
You nailed it with ancient and rich smelling! It really does smell from another time period like an ancient Egyptian elixir of seduction! Funny you mention the Cartier, I seem to remember thinking it had something of Grand Soir about it but more complex and interesting, but my experience of it is limited so far.
You definitely already know this, but STICK TO YOUR GUNS. It's so easy to get sucked into this 'discontinuation hype/frenzy', but the reality is that a lot of these uber expensive discontinued fragrances just aren't that good, or at least aren't as universally magical or appealing as people (typically owners of the fragrance or those clouded by nostalgia) make them seem. Adherents to brands like MFK, Tom Ford, etc. - are all notorious for this behavior. Like, maybe some of these just suck and aren't worth $800 for a partial 50ml bottle?
Pour Le Soir is an INCREDIBLE fragrance. But, it doesn’t matter, because they are re-releasing it.
Totally! I tend not to be drawn in too much by hype, I can have a contrarian streak where if everyone is praising it I tend to feel even more skeptical. What gets me sometimes is the feeling of "this is a once in a lifetime chance to get this perfume/get this perfume at this price" which can be tough to resist, but I try to stay level headed! 😂
i think grand soir is an essential reference for the amber genre. MFK sort of stopped being creative in recent times sadly
Hi, just wanted to give you a heads up and say that Bois D’Armenie unfortunately is being discontinued along with Tonka Imperial! It’s gone from the website but there seem to be still some bottles at the stores. 💔 Really sad news, I’m going to pick up a back up on Monday.
finally a fragrance review that has good taste and is also concise! I am definitely subscribing and looking forward to more videos
@@jazzyjohnmark thanks so much!
When I think of Barenia, here's what I get: The citric element enlightens, cheers, energizes and cleans the senses, opening up my interior space, so that I can receive the green-woody,spicy-sweet, bringing me a gift of a dance that swings around the emotional and energizing antithesis: cold and warm, sweet and sour, smooth and coarse, as the frugal element diffuses its splendor along its entire journey. What a Fougere gift Christine Nagel has built with Barenia.
First time watching your channel- I have to say that I love your pfp!
@@themaybeso6117 thanks!
Love these stories
I managed to grab a bottle of Eau Noire in Paris before it was, again, discontinued/reformulated, but I am drooling over your bottle of the original Eau Noire Cologne.
@@Apero1Spritz thank you!!
2 of my top 3 all time favourite fragrances - BDA & OG Dior Homme. With the 3rd being Hermes TDH Parfum.
Great video again! I would sell a kidney for that Eau Noire Cologne.
@@perroli should we ever meet, I'll give you a spray! 😂
Great video, thanks. I would love some chapter markers, if you felt like adding them in future. Sometimes I’m looking for the whole thing, including context, but sometimes just the fragrances.
So much to say! (But I'll keep it relatively brief.) First, I'm sure I must have seen you at Misshapes because I was often there, decked out in Dior etc. and wearing Eau Noire lol. Did you ever go to Electroclash at Luxx with Larry T? Such good times, both of them. You can still find pockets of the old magic in Brooklyn but it's not exactly the same and I do feel conspicuously older now. Sigh... I think I first found your channel with your original Eau Noire review (or something it was featured in) and I told you I was insanely jealous of your original juice! I wanted to mention that in between the first and second Francis versions, Demachy also reformulated it at some point. It was much more lavender forward with the spices dialed way back (but still green and still powerful). I agree that the current version is nice to have around and still certainly smells like EN, but it is so, so light. I did a side by side comparison with the Demachy version one day and ended up using an entire 2ml sample of the current. You would have cleared a room with that much of the original. Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed your walk down memory lane. You may not be able to re-live the past, but you can remember it fondly!
@@DaveNYC wow that's amazing!! I never went to Electroclash but I remember searching for a scene after Misshapes ended, I remember going to Darkroom, Sugarland, Le Bain. I do suspect good stuff is still happening in BK but I feel a bit out of touch/unmotivated to go check it out! 😂
@@cheapimitation2242 oh yes, Le Bain with the infamous pool 😯. And Sugarland was lots of fun, now condos of course. Darkroom sounds familiar but I can’t remember anything about it. Where was it?
Is slimane going to chanel?
@@RichMitch we don't know but it's rumored! His final women's collection at Celine was very Chanel so some people are reading into it.
@@cheapimitation2242 I’m gonna say absolutely not. To the point about Heidi doing Heidi wherever he goes, they would not want that at Chanel. Their business is enormous and relies on recycling and updating the house codes over and over. No way they’re going to mess with that cash cow by having it Slimanized lol
Interesting how Dior had anticipated the 'private designer' lines (along with Armani if I'm not mistaken) only to smash release after release with very little artistic direction a few years later
@@Gonzalo_K yeas! Thank you for mentioning Armani I totally forgot about it.
Beautiful commentary. Love your video!
@@freedombird66 thanks so much!
I love this strange fragrance. I also love a scent called Jacqueline by the same perfumer! Thanks for your thoughts.
I like your "side rants" :)
Great Insights, love the idea of creative rebirth! Poetic. I respect your taste in scents, you mentioned you like menswear, I wish you had a menswear channel too!
Great Summary! I would have liked to have seen a couple more of these from FM. As for the 4, big fan of Superstitious & Dries Van Noten. The other 2 might as well be my least liked from the collection
Another chapter in the best FM series on UA-cam
