I follow a few basic guide lines for myself Indy on Higher wheelbase boards Ventures on Small wheelbase boards also make sure the wheels are either the same height as the trucks or less by 1-3 mm and never more than 2 mm/ so if your riding some Standard Indys those are 55mm high ride wheels that are 53-57mm add Risers that adds 3.1mm thats a standard 1/8 riser pad your trucks end up 3mm higher you can add wheel height. so on a standard Indy being 55 plus 3.1 you get 58mm and 58-60mm wheels feel just fine. If your Tall. Skate a big board. 14.5 wheelbase or more. skate a deck with longer nose and tail. Figure out if you like mellow or a lot of concave, that's preference based. Trucks, you want alot of steering or alot of stability? depends on your tricks. If you want Strength skate Titanium Trucks, You want reliability skate Standard trucks. learn to break in the bushings or learn to swap the bushings the way you want to get the steering dialed. find your wheel shape and size, Bigger wheels more speed more weight, smaller wheels less speed less weight.

I will bite back on the length argument a bit. I can’t skate a 14 inch wheelbase if it’s 31.5 long, but I can if the wheelbase is 14.25 on a 31.5. According to Paul’s metric I should skate a 14 inch wheelbase. However, I can skate a 14 wheelbase if it’s 31.75 long.

i have a massive problem at the moment... hoping you can help... im riding alot of transition at the moment... bowls and 1/4s etc.. my problem is that front foot is always shifting when coming down from the copings... on rock rolls, a lot of the time my front foot shifts usually to the toe side, on 50/50s more to the heel side... its super frustrating because i cant get the run together without shifting and without alot of time! Im guessing you will know the answer! hope you can help! thanks again for this vid!!

Dude I bet Jimmy is killing it right now. I’m at his point in my skating. I can hit clean Nollie heels , switch heels but the Ollie still gets me , same problem as Jimmy. Can’t wait to try it out tomorrow. I’ll be cool to come back to this comment in 3 yrs and see how much I’ve progress.

He might need to square his hips with his board more. That way he can engage is leg faster and keep that front foot on the right path

Put on pads and practice falling and bailing to get an idea of how to bail safely and you get less scared too. Now anytime i try something, I plan out how to bail, and practice bailing. Then I feel better trying the obstacle

5:11 when you do the kickturn do u lift the back foot? when i try that i always slip and kick the board upwards

    • @unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205

When you kick turn you are keeping weight on the back foot through the entire move. You only lift the front foot after you have rotated your shoulders and remember its just a little lift.
