Dude I bet Jimmy is killing it right now. I’m at his point in my skating. I can hit clean Nollie heels , switch heels but the Ollie still gets me , same problem as Jimmy. Can’t wait to try it out tomorrow. I’ll be cool to come back to this comment in 3 yrs and see how much I’ve progress.
Finally. I’ve been looking for videos to improve my ollies. Most videos don’t address the issue. It’s always generic generic ollie tips that all the videos say. This is the only one I’ve found that really aims at improving ollies rather than teaching. Idk why no other videos address keeping the back foot connected to the board when that has such a huge part in executing a controlled ollie. Thanks for this
Man now way i can ollie waist high while rolling but my backfoot always comes off so i have trouble doing it off high things bc im not rolling im gonna work on this for the next week and a half every day and go back to this stair set , thank you so much ! All the advice i needed no one could tell me what i was doing wrong , nos i know !!!!
If your back foot is coming off, you're probably rocketing too much and need to try not putting as much energy into the ollie until your form/technique is corrected or you're not leaning forward enough for the speed you're carrying. Or you just need to start working on ninja style ollies, where it basically looks like you're doing a flying sidekick through the air. That involves bringing the back foot in & up. I don't think of ollies as bringing the board up, but up AND forward, so I catch with front foot and thrust the deck forward like a flying kick, thus making the tail slap up against the back foot. I firmly believe most ollie issues are cleared up once people learn to really attack the nose. If you think of an ollie as moving up AND forward, your back foot will start to follow; the difficulty comes from people using their rear leg only in a straight down/up motion and going below the deck's horizontal plane that kills the energy transfer (pop down, foot then moves straight up). Your front front slides & moves forward, so you need to train your rear foot to move forward a little too. It's pop down, move rear foot up AND forwards. Your rear leg below the knee doesn't come straight up, it makes a very similar motion to when you pick up your foot to see what's on the bottom of your shoe.
Thanks so much for these videos! 41 year-old here learning to skate for the first time. I've been working on ollies for 3 or 4 months now and a few of your tips, specifically the launch and rolling out my front foot, just allowed me to do some ollies that finally felt good, like I was doing it right! I'll be scouring your video more insights!
So stoked that you're learning to skate there is no age limit! Let me know if I can help you with your process as you learn to ollie and skate the way you want to!
@@unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205 Thanks, I really appreciate that! You know one thing I discovered this last week is the reason I couldn't time myself to ollie over an object while rolling was because I couldn't ollie without looking at my feet. Had to practice looking away while doing stationary ollies for a while until I started getting comfortable. Now I'm managing to ollie while rolling and looking at the object I'm trying to ollie over.
Excellent analysis! I also had the same problem with my backfoot. Then when I was practicing kickflip my front foot would occasionaly catch the nose in the flicking motion and ended up giving me a super high ollie instead of flip. That made me suspect for a good ollie actually what we need is a flicking motion. Then I retrained ollie with this deliberate flick it massively changed my ollie. Your point of rolling the pinkie side sooner and sway the lower leg more firmly verifies my theory -- it is essentially what you have to do in a kickflip.
That is a powerful connection! Skaters are problem solvers and critical thinkers! Love that skateboarding gives us a space to challenge our brain and body to connect like that! Nice work you should consider sharing your ideas with more people!
I think your right on all u said but I found myself ollieing better with it sticking to my back foot by moving my back foot in on the tail the farther your back foot is on the tail the worse it'll be
Great point! by moving your back foot down on the tail you may loose some leverage but you will gain more contact. Sometimes its the smallest adjustments that make the difference for each of us! Thanks for pointing this out!
been skating for 2 and a half years now. progressed crazy but still blackfoot comes off when popping tricks that aren’t flip tricks, this helped a lot time to practice!
Hey man very helpful video!! I have the same issue with the back foot and I would like some feedback on my ollie... how could I get to send you a video of my ollie, so that maybe you could let me know what to adjust? Thanks, keep up with the great content, congrats!
I have been skating for a few months. I know ollies take a lot of time and commitment but no matter what I try ( carpet, cracks, skater trainer etc etc) I can’t pop as I should. Do you have any video on how to pop? Thank you! Love your videos! Please also do more on park. How to carve the bowls!
Bowl carving is on the list! Send me a video of you working on your pop and I'm sure I can help you out. I do have some vids that cover popping. What a challenging aspect of the ollie it is too! Check this vid and see if it helps... ua-cam.com/video/zDIIdLproow/v-deo.html
Really focus on jumping before you flick the tail down. It's so important that you think of flick the tail down instead of trying push off the tail from the ground. Think get weightless then flick...
A confident ollie is really something I want to have before going to the next level. That's hard. Thx for the advices!
So glad we can help! Send video if you want any analysis.

Just thankful people who need them can find them. We love to see people understand how it all works and learn!
Great analysis! Can I sent in my Ollie video as well? Thanks ahead
Exactly the advice I was looking for
Stoked you found this in the sea of you tube knowledge!
If you get desperate enough you do some digging, haha.
Just found this channel and wow these might be the most insightful skate tips I've ever seen

I started trying stairs but the board always flies away from me. I don’t understand how it stays glued to people’s feet so thank you for this video!!
You're welcome. I'm working on another video for one of our other subscribers that might have a few pointers for you on bigger drops.
@@unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205 thank you!!! that would be amazing

Thanks man your video actually helped out a lot!

Very concise ollie tips and breakdowns. Nice!

@@unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205 no problem at all
If i understand good, “kick” bit forward with ur foot after sliding upwards but do it in a quick motion?
Smooth motion you don't want to kick the board away...
Do you mind telling me what shoes you're wearing in this video when you're demonstrating in your office?
No? Lol
I have the same problem and i cant ollie over stuff

Damn I'd be happy with being able to Ollie like that regardless of the disconnect 😂

Just email at chris@ussea.us
Thank you, Can we get a video on how to lead into a grind?
We talkin 50/50? Frontside, backside? In a bowl or ramp? Hand rail? Would be stoked to work on that edit. Just need to narrow the focus.
@@unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205 I'd say 50-50 onto a Hand rail.

Yes Tommie helped me out with some video content to build off of. He is a long time friend, an incredible athlete, and one heck of a snowboard coach!
