Juuni Taisen: The Superior Foil to Fate/Zero
Japan has always portrayed Susanoo in many different ways. Sometimes hes a out of control mad force of chaos, sometimes hes an arrogant anti hero, and other times hes a stoic hero who peacefully lives with his sister after ascending to the heavens and frankly Aogami represents that last one pretty well in SMT5V.... so complaining that Aogami isn't a good Susan is just weird to me
The themes of AOT were doomed from the start by the creators political illiteracy and being surrounded by fascist influences, but the ending we got was the most disasterous outcome. AOT entirely ignores the "Negative Freedom" vs "Positive Freedom" dichotomy and acts like they are both the same thing instead of mutually exclusive, The dichotomy of those two would have been a perfect thing to explore, yet Isayamas political illiteracy made him entirely unaware of the dichotomy. With AOT no reqium, I think its almost as bad as the original ending, just not overtly as bad. Him being the father for Historias child is dumb as fuck for example. And also, there were other solutions for ending the conflict, arming a revolution in Marley. Paradi had free acces to Marley, they could have form a rebel group under Marley, and maybe even fed zeke to whoever became a leader in the rebel group they formed. Guerila Warfare, leading up to a coup on the Marley government that'd dissolve the segregation and imperialist state of Marley.

YIPPEE YTTD VID
He’s a very interesting character, and I think the way he was written shows it’s up for interpretation is he being truthful? who really knows..
Wont lie I just finished ts and i can only undestand/remember the last half of it
I loved this video, most people when talking about this manga focus on "haha wacky things happen". Even though the author makes it very clear that there is a lot to analyze and reflect upon. Hell, she even explicitely features books by nietzsche, dazai, and tolstoy in the manga itself. To not view the manga through the perspective of these authors is to do yourself a disservice.
Kokichi Oma is a Trash Character I understand Kokichi's character far better than you do. You are just a fanboy making up fan theories about Kokichi and pretending your fan theories are canon. Nagito has complex reasons & clear ideals about why he believes the Ultimates are the saviours of humanity, an interesting backstory about why his worldview is warped, he symbolizes the mindset of how the normal people worship the talented taken to extreme levels. To summarize the basics and put it simply. Meanwhile Kokichi's entire character is being ass to everyone just because he can. Kokichi openly lies and antagonizes everyone because he feels like it. Then right before Kokichi's death, he randomly decides that he is a good guy who is just scared of dying. That is bad writing. Because Kokichi's last chapter. he is clearly charismatic. But he has no real motivations or backstory beyond being evil for the sake of being evil. His entire backstory is just him being a pre teen brat hanging out with other kids playing pranks. Nothing that explains why he is ok with having people brutally killed by his own actions and laughing at them while they die Kokichi actively refuses to help everyone and actively sabotages them constantly. Kokichi's entire purpose in the story is to be the antagonist and a hate sink for everyone else. A Similar Character from Your Turn to Die. Sou Hiyori lied and manipulated everyone else as well. But he later explains that he was acting out of terror because he had the most likely chance of dying. You see hints of this throughout the story. E.g. the Intro, the Percentages. Nagito's character & motivations and explored throughout multiple games and its clearly shown why he is like this. Meanwhile Kokichi has no greater motivations than evil for the sake of being evil. Yet the story wants us to feel sorry for him when he claims he was just acting out of fear for his life. Which makes no sense. If that was the case. Kokichi should have been actively trying to help everyone from the start. Even Sou Hiyori sometimes tried to help the group escape the building they were trapped in. Kokichi did nothing of the sort. Just mocking and taunting the others. Kokichi didn't help the others. If you are referring to Kokichi & Kaito's final plan. Kokichi only offered his help because he was about to die anyway and he wanted to outsmart the mastermind. Kokichi is acting selfishly and only for his own benefit. What hints? You mean when he mocks them. That's Kokichi just stroking his own ego. Even Monokuma gives more hints & help the good guys than Kokichi does. If Kokichi really wanted to help them. He would be actively helping them from the start. Shuichi mostly discovered things on his own or with help from the remaining participants. Kokichi offered little to no help at all throughout the entire series. When I say Sou Hiyori was helping the team. I mean he actively helped the team out multiple times. Kokichi did not. Kokichi is literally never shown to be conflicted about his actions at all throughout the series. Until the very last minute where Kokichi claims that he is afraid of death. Kokichi's lies never help anyone. Kokichi is actively increasing the death count and constantly getting other people killed. Kokichi literally didn't have to lie or deceive anyone at all. Kokichi literally had no logical or rational reasons for his actions. Everyone would have been better off if Kokichi worked with the team instead of against them. Kokichi actively made things worse for everyone with his actions. Kokichi had every single opportunity to help others and he chose not to. Sou Hiyori symbolizes a living lie far more than Kokichi does. Since he has an actual reason for his lying, he is actively shown to be conflicted, he has a clear motivation & understandable reasons behind all of his actions. For Kokichi to symbolize a living lie as you claim. He would actually have to be shown to be conflicted at any point during the series before his last scene in the series. The fact you can't provide a single example of any proof to back up your points. Kokichi would need an actual motivation and / or reason behind his actions that makes sense. Otherwise Kokichi is just evil for the sake of being evil. But by your own admission there is no motivation or reason behind Kokichi's actions. Kokichi is the textbook definition of being evil for the sake of being evil. What exactly is Kokichi supposed to symbolize other than being evil for the sake of being evil or lying & deceiving others for no reason until the writers suddenly make you a good guy during your last scene of dialogue for no reason and desperately try to make you sound sympathetic even though you have done nothing to earn it. Are you kidding. Kokichi rarely gave hints and he sabotaged Shuichi and the others far more than he helped. Kokichi helped the least out of everyone. Kokichi actively made the killing game harder for Shuichi and everyone else. Kokichi didn't try to help stop the killing game at all. Kokichi wasn't even trying to help Maki. Kokichi only agreed to help stop the "killing game" when it was clear that he was going to die anyway and he wanted to make his own death impossible to solve for his own amusement. Again you are completely wrong. Kokichi sabotages Shuichi a lot. You are just seeing what you want to see. And you are making up fan theories to try desperately to justify Kokichi's garbage writing. He has no real motivation. He has no real backstory or excuses for his terrible behaviour. The most Kokichi contributed during the 2nd Class Trial is asking whether or not Kirumi stayed at the gym. That's barely any help at all. The Heroes would have solved the 2nd Class Trial with or without Kokichi. Maki wasn't even a threat to the heroes. Kokichi revealed that Maki was an assassin to split up the heroes and turn them against each other. Kokichi admits that he was going to die and there was no way to save him after Maki shot him. He was already heavily bleeding out. So no, there was no way for Kokichi to save himself. And Kokichi only ends up in that situation because he decided to keep antagonizing the heroes and sabotaging them. That is not the actions of someone who wants to stop the Killing Game. He literally only changes his mind & helps at the last minute. Kokichi literally gets Miu killed & frames Gonta for his own amusement. He later kidnaps Kaito and further sabotages the heroes. That isn't how someone who wants to stop the killing game would behave. Kokichi did not have a clear motive. He was just evil for the sake of being evil. Until he suddenly decides he hates the killing game out of nowhere at the last minute. He didn't help anyone with the killing game. At most he gave minor hints and that was clearly more for his amusement than anything else. Kokichi blatantly sabotages the heroes more than he helps by a wide margin. The Heroes have to spent a large amount of time during the Class Trials figuring out Kokichi's lies & blatant attempts at sabotaging them because Kokichi keeps antagonizing them for no real reason especially if Kokichi supposedly hates the Killing Game like you claim. The 4th Class Trial only happened because of Kokichi in the first place. Kokichi is the one who killed Miu. And you are claiming Kokichi is the one who saved them from the 4th Trial. Kokichi was the murderer of the 4th Trial to begin with and he spends most of that trial taunting the heroes & sabotaging them. Shuichi and the others have figure out Kokichi's lies to figure out how Kokichi framed Gonta as the murderer. The 4th Class Trial is definitive proof that Kokichi never had any intention of stopping the Killing Game at all. Kokichi doesn't help the heroes during the 3rd Class Trial at all. So no, Kokichi was not a major help during the 3rd & 4th Class Trials. Kokichi was actively responsible & the culprit of the 4th Class Trial to begin with. And the bare minimum single hint that Kokichi gave during the second class trial barely helped at all. If Kokichi actually hated the killing game, he wouldn't have kidnapped Kaito, he wouldn't have killed Miu, he wouldn't have framed Gonta and gotten Gonta killed. So no, Kokichi definitely does not have a clear motive at all. He blatantly sabotaged every attempt to stop the killing game and at best made every attempt to help the killing game continue. Ok I was in the middle of debunking your claims in a word document. But alright what did you have in mind then because I'm not agreeing with this Kokichi has a motive thing you keep claiming. A guy trying to stop the killing game would not be actively sabotaging everyone else up till the very last minute. And no, giving hints does not help. I'm not talking about whether Kokichi's backstory is good or not. It doesn't give any actual reason for how Kokichi would be behaving this way. Nagito's backstory & actions throughout danganronpa shows how he hero worships the Ultimate Student and believes they can overcome any struggle. When he antagonizes the cast, he makes it clear from the start of the series till the end of the series that he does so because he full believes they can overcome any obstacle and he wants to see them struggle & surpass their limits.
Okay you hate Kokichi that’s fine but your being ignorant to ignore clear facts that had already been stated in game and I’ll reply to your hate speech. Kokichi’s entire character is based of the games concept of being truth/lies and Kokichi represents lies while Kaito represents truth that’s why they clash throughout the game. Kokichi had motivations on his own but you choose to ignore them because you hate him clearly he did the evil act because it’s apart of Tsumugi’s script to make him the villain in the story and he knows that! He’s self aware compared to every other character but he never tells anybody this, as soon as they inspect his room in the epilogue he had been collecting things from previous cases hinting he knew something was going on so he didn’t follow what the mastermind wanted, from the start he wanted to end this killing game. His backstory isn’t that known but we can be clear that him along with the other kids are orphans(D.I.C.E is referenced to a tv show about a bunch of orphans who were a group of pranksters) it’s stated the the first rule of their group is NO KILLING FULL STOP. Kokichi may not have helped out in a way that you’d consider good but he’s known to be manipulative in a way where he can make the group do as he wants without making it known that he wants to do it. He’s the type to make the team do it because it’s their idea. He helped Himiko cry and remember Tenko, he has empathy towards people but he shows it in a way where it seems cruel or unfair. “The story wants us to feel sorry for him?” How would you be able to trust a group of people you just met in a killing game setting? He has trust issues which I find realistic. He proves his ideology during the trials saying you should suspect everyone while Kaito prefers to believe in them that right their shows that he can’t be open with his true feelings when you don’t know if you’d be dead tomorrow or the day after. The game is survival. As I’ve said about trust issues no one can say they are selfish for looking out for themselves over everyone else. The motives give the person intent to kill and he said in the third trial “People you trust will ultimately betray you, this is a game of suspicion” that implies he’s telling everyone that they all have to suspect each other if they want to survive this despite the circumstances counting as selfish. The hints he gives are questions relevant to the case however he does come off as rude. At the start of the game when Kaede visits Kokichi’s room he repeats “I don’t wanna die…….I wanna live longer”. He’s always been afraid of death okay they all were. Everyone felt Kokichi was a very suspicious person because of his care-free personality and like I said he was meant to be a villain from the start via Tsumugi’s script. They wouldn’t have trusted him either way even if he did help. When you talk about a living lie Kokichi doesn’t need a reason to be one as no one will ever know if he was lying or being honest within the end, the whole point of the game was to question the players perception. Was it a truth or was it all a lie? Necessarily he only got Gonta sacrificed because since they were in the virtual world and Gonta’s memories weren’t there Gonta would believe him wholeheartedly to kill Miu who was already planning to kill Kokichi. This is his survival instinct to plan this to survive the killing game longer. He felt bad for getting Gonta and Miu killed yes but he used his evil facade to put up an act so others couldn’t suspect him or think of him differently as he was meant to be a villain according to the scripts. If Miu was alive and Kokichi was dead she’d win because she could bullshit her way to victory. They wouldn’t be able to figure out how the virtual world works. Okay about Maki he had every right to reveal her to the group, anyone that encounters an assassin would be afraid of them. He did this to protect them and honestly throughout the game she has threatened the cast that she’ll kill them. Your gonna justify her choking Kokichi on two counts and shooting him twice with a crossbow over an assassin who kills people for money? That’s unrealistic. Throughout the game already the cast does antagonise Kokichi out of nowhere sometimes as much as he does to them however he doesn’t pretend to be the good one unlike the others. He proved they were hypocrites by saying “You all blame and gang up on me but now your going to pretend to be good people?” They couldn’t justify that at all which proves him right because that’s what they did throughout the game. Kokichi is written in a way where he leaves us guessing on what he wants, he isn’t a good or bad person but he made choices that he thinks will do the right thing which morally goes against the rest. His actions had purpose throughout the game so maybe you should play it again or watch a gameplay because he didn’t do it for nothing that’s just what the viewers want.
@@Babygirl-on5zn Kid. Its pretty clear that you are the ignorant one here. You didn't state any facts. You stated your biased fan theories that you can't actually prove. I stated objective facts. Kokichi Oma is a garbage inconsistent character.
@@Babygirl-on5zn In Your Turn to Die Sou Hiyori seemingly has a last minute change similar to Kokichi Oma. But the difference is there are all kinds of hints & foreshadowing from the start that Sou Hiyori is terrified for his life and acting primarily out of fear long before Sou Hiyori's possible death depending of which route. The literal intro is the Asunaro Staff taunting Sou Hiyori over his powerlessness to change his fate. You see the percentages early on where Sou Hiyori's chances of survival are zero. Kokichi Oma clearly isn't terrified for his life at any point during the series until the last minute. Kokichi Oma hasn't shown at any point that he is rooting for the heroes. He even taunts Kaito at the end that he is likely lying. Whether Kokichi did have a miracle cure for his injury before the 5th Trial or not. Kokichi was only inthat position in the first place because he continued antagonizing the heroes for no reason. He literally went to insane lengths to sabotage them and make them angry. And no, there is no excuse for Kokichi outing Maki's identity and antagonizing her. Maki doesn't have to prove anything to Kokichi. Maki isn't the one killing & kidnapping people. Kokichi is the one killing & kidnapping people. Maki owes Kokichi nothing. You clearly have a bias. You think the heroes have to prove their trustworthiness to Kokichi when Kokichi is the one actively antagonizing them, taunting them, mocking them, killing people & kidnapping people. Are you kidding me. And now you are blatantly lying & just making up nonsense to try to fit your own narrative. Kokichi blatantly killed Miu for no reason. Kokichi could have easily avoided Miu, told someone else what Miu was planning or simply knocked Miu out. Kokichi is supposed to be intelligent and strategic after all. Kokichi had literally no reason to frame Gonta. Kokichi could have simply gone through with his plan to make Miu's murder unsolveable like he did with his own death. If he really wanted to stop the killing game. Instead he framed Gonta for no reason. Kokichi literally just mocked & taunted the heroes for his own amusement. He clearly wasn't trying to help the heroes at all. He was literally gloating about framing Gonta for Miu's Murder. Actually Kokichi is the first one to agree with Kiyo that Gonta, Kibo, Tsumugi are the suspects. He is blatantly trying to hinder the heroes & sabotage them. Then Kokichi claims that he was the murderer. Kokichi clearly isn't trying to help stop Kiyo at all. He is just trolling & taunting the heroes. He spends more time actively sabotaging everyone other than Kiyo than actually helping. Shuichi is the one who has figure out that Kokichi is blatantly lying because Kokichi clearly has no intention of helping to solve the case outside of just antagonizing the heroes.
@@Babygirl-on5zn Kid. Its pretty clear that you are the ignorant one here. You didn't state any facts.
@@Babygirl-on5zn You stated your biased fan theories that you can't actually prove. I stated objective facts. Kokichi Oma is a garbage inconsistent character.
What in the world, what a niche crossover. I was pleasantly surprised to see that you included a Vintage Story soundtrack of all things. It had my brain thrown for a loop while listening until the beat kicked in for my confirmation. Great video nevertheless!
10:24 ayo why shuichi blushing xD
Many people think that, as the series concluded with a sad ending, therefore it is so meaningful, perfect, and a masterpiece. But it is not about a sad/happy ending. Many things towards the ending felt forced. Many things didn't feel right compared to perivous seasons. Overall, the ending never felt fulfilling. The death note ending was also sad, yet full-feeling.
Manga hits hard and analysis harder when you are a former hikikomori
I will never be able to get behind how he concluded Ymir and Historia’s story. Season 2 gave them both so much potential and after the first part of three…it was all downhill. Those two had some of the best scenes in the whole show. Both characters got done extremely dirty.
Where in ireland are you from?
This video was peak
Thanks, also I am from Belfast :)
Thank you for making this very informative video! I learned a lot of things about the Ainu that I didnt know before
Amazing vid!
To start I love the ending. But it has its flaws. My critique just boils down to three issues 1) Ymir's significance and motivation 2) Eren's desire and motivation (he DID care for his friends the most but freedom mattered more to him. So he should have fought back.) 3) Plot armor reduction (after titan curse ended pure Titans evaporated and didn't turn back) Rest is people's wishes. Some wished for erehisu some for other but thats individual wish. So overall 7/10
The title is bullshit
This is such a refreshing take on this work after countless half-assed "American Psycho shows that consumptionism is le bad" essays out there
The reason why I like kokichi is because he's evil. Unlike other why may like him for being a "UwU Quirky Boy"
Which episodes show Daida trapped inside his body while seeing flashbacks of his father?
Great video bro! It makes me sad seeing what the ending did to Eren's character.
I always hate Kaito character. But after what he commented about Kokichi on Gonta's trial? That makes me despise him more.
The worst part of it is that Ending Defenders will literally insult you for not liking the ending. Ending defenders have such little d!@k energy. They’re like actual weirdos. Leave people the f$@k alone and let them have a opinion.
Fantastic video, will most definitely be checking out the novel soon
Great video as always, this shows great depth and understanding of the original work and it portrays a really grim reality. Keep up the good work!
Boosting
nothing wrong my ass
1:45 Sou admitted he lied about Joe voting for Mishima in the 1st main game
Its okay to forgive Miranjo but the show failed to execute it properly. If the characters forgive a character but audience does not, then thats just bad writing
thanks fo the review of my favourite manga!
i hated the time travel twist so fucking much. it took grisha yeager, the monster who forced his own son to carry the curse of the titan transformation, to another one on eren's list of victims.
Yup... And it basically robbed all the character of their free will. You know, I can't think of a single example of time travel being added late into a story and actually being good. It always leads to narrative issues.
@@ThePreciseClimber right! we were already aware of how far eren could go. eren influencing his dad, took more from grisha's character than it added to eren's. but you gotta admit, out of context, it's a cool moment, that fueled so many edits.
This nga is a D1 villain for no reason
You don't watch the show so why are you talking about it like dude...
Ok the perfect ending would be to turn every Eldian into a shifter through paths. I think it could be contrived pretty easily. Eren would have never done this but Ymir would have I think. It means a full rumbling isn't necessary because every Eldian across the world would need anti-tank guns to kill them and it wouldn't be viable. Eren would then be really pissed off but the end could be he realises that now they have a strong diplomatic hand against the alliance and therefore he is neutralizing his enemies. It ends up that the only way to actually destroy the 'titans' is for everyone to become titans, meaning there doesn't have to be the lame removal of fantasy elements. I don't know, it would be cool though.
Everyone becomes titans, so Ymir continues to work the path forever, and shapeshifters continue to only live 13 years while being used as weapons. Perfect for Eldians without free will if the king finds a way to return through the blood of Fritz/Historia's childs
You're just upset that it's more known now
@43:45 I think the only reason for Grisha giving the Attack titan to Eren (other than trusting Eren to use that power in favor of Eldians) is that the 13 years were almost up. That was my understanding the first time and it still is. Eren is 10 and Grisha probably married Carla 1-3 years after he arrived. Don't forget that Grisha showed the key to Eren before the wall was breached by Reiner (implies that he was already probably planning to transfer the titan to Eren before his wife died). I agree though that we are not really given an explanation as to why Grisha transfers the titan to 1) Eren and 2) at that moment specifically. He did '' need '' to transfer it to someone relatively soon though. Otherwise, the Attack titan would be lost and distributed to someone else being born.
Excellent analysis!!
A phenomenal analysis to a phenomenal manga. I finished reading it recently and this video helped me understand the concepts it tackles more cohesively. It's hard to find something in the realm of manga that feels as personal to the author as this does, and it really feels like a companion piece to GLT, as you pointed out. It's super interesting to be able to dive into someone else's worldview like this, through the art they produce.
Do you have an opinion of who/what was the green figure that the protagonist saw in his "brain"? I couldn't figure out that part. There's a phrase that the green figure says but it could mean a few things. so I would like to know your opinion.
this analysis is crazy good. i’ve looked at this manga in depth several times and didn’t notice a lot of the things you pointed out. one thing i’d like to mention though that you didn’t talk about much is yomikawa or the library girl. as you said the gardener and scientist both embody different sides of the question “why do we continue to live?”. you also later talked about the themes of “becoming one with the world” or rejecting it and embracing solitude. i think the gardener and the scientist both represent different sides of this too. yomikawa on the other hand is the neutral between them. in chapter 44 it’s confirmed that gardener, scientist, AND yomikawa are all sort of “angels” or “mutants” given part of “gods” power. to me the scientist represents a form of atheism while the gardener is religion. yomikawa represents agnosticism. “we’re not granted existence we are merely flowing the flow” “we will never be able to reach the truth behind the structure of this world. and with that, all of them are fairy tales… and all of them are true” unlike gardener and scientist she’s never trying to tamper with the world or keep it in shape. she doesn’t believe there is an answer to the question “why do we live”. she hasn’t isolated herself from society nor has she “merged” with it either to fit in or keep it in order. she merely exists and peruses her hobby of reading. the other two fight for their interpretation of the world while she lives and enjoys the ambiguity of it. she’s not as plot relevant as the other two “angels” but i find her character very interesting especially after chapter 44. thank you for this video though it’s opened my eyes to parts of my already favorite manga i hadn’t been able to appreciate yet.
Why do japs always put these in the framework of cute anime girls?
I think that what makes Kokichi's character so good is that you really dont know his true intentions, and no matter how much you analyse it you can still have different interpretations
That isn't something good actually. A character needs to have a true direction because everyone can write a character that contradicts himself without explanation and call it complex. That's pretentious. Even Kokichi is not that since the game left that motive video with the no killing rule in japanese.
Peak analysis
great video, i never caught stuff like 16:59 while reading
4:16 I think some say it was enslavement due to SMT 5 and how demifiend was discarded.
i was fuckin fuming when kokichi faked his death
