This channel was created to bring awareness about people and incidents in Jamaica during the late 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. Some videos will outline well-known people and incidents. But during research, all efforts are made to uncover and include unknown information about such people and incidents. The channel will also highlight everyday unfamiliar happenings that occurred in Jamaica's history. This will be done so viewers will gain some insight as to how Jamaica was then in comparison to how Jamaica is now. Some viewers may recognize that even as far back in time, certain behaviors are no different from today. The purpose of this channel is basically to educate any small or large audience who is interested in learning about Jamaica's history.
Popular Cyclist Chopped To Death | Ole Time Jamaica
In July 1934, Washington Battiste was chopped to death in downtown Kingston. Chopping people to death was happening long before the 1930s and continues today. The difference between the punishment then in comparison to now is that two months after Mr. Geylord committed the murder, he was tried and sentenced to death. One month later, he was executed on the gallows at St. Catherine District Prison. Now, those committing such gruesome murders receive life in prison. What do you think about the legal process then as compared to now?

In July 1918, rumors in Ewarton got out of hand. The mix-up between Mr. Fung, Corporal MacDonald, and the girlfriend is usually sensationalized. They also felt some equality with the British so how dare the British command such action instead of having the maroons take care of the matter themselves! But...

In July 1835, land in St. Catherine, 10 miles from Spanish Town, was purchased by abolitionist Reverend Phillipo to create the first free village in Jamaica for emancipated slaves. In 1945, the Percy Junor Hospital was opened in Spaldings. The hospital was the brainchild of Percy Junor himself who always saw a need for this medical facility in Spaldings and surrounding areas. So he used his own money to have the hospital built. Such a national commitment of a private citizen or company to build a hospital has not materialized since that project although places such as Por...
