In May 1979, it was announced that hanging would resume after 3 years of its suspension. But, the last man hanged in Jamaica was in 1988. The "to hang or not to hang" controversy has continued throughout the years especially now with such a high murder rate in the country. With great opposition to capital punishment, the call for its return seems unlikely.
