Well done. I only got purple after I had cleared yellow and green, and then it became obvious. However I described it simply as "features on the Let's Make a Deal" game show. The show I think went into the 80s as I remember it well. By the way, they described the booby prizes (often live animals and the goat was was the most common of these), as 'Zonks'. I think I get full points for purple. My perfect solve was in forward rainbow order. Oranje also got the reverse rainbow by the way. As for the Door #1, Door #2 and Door #3, i seem to remember that was the end game. They gave the chance to play to the two contestants who won the most valuable prizes and went down the line until they found two contestants willing to trade in their winnings to play the final game. The final game always featured a car, an intermediate prize such as furniture / kitchen appliances or TV /Stereo and finally a zonk (often a goat). Monte would of course reveal the door that nobody picked if it didn't have the car and I think, but I am not 100% sure of this, give the contestants the chance to switch or not. It's also possible he would try to buy the door from you (so you give up your chance to win one of the two prizes left in play for $X). Maybe both of these activities took place. I haven't seen this show in many years! The newer game "Deal or No Deal" takes some of these elements from Let's Make a Deal. Thanks for explaining that problem. Yes I've heard it somewhere. I knew intuitively you had to switch and for this reason. it's easy to see why when you extend the problem to say, 10 doors. You pick a door at random. Monte Hall reveals 8 doors, all have goats. Should you switch or stay? Since your door had a 1/10 chance of scoring the car because of your random pick, the door that is still in play has to have a 9/10 chance. Absolutely you switch in this scenario.

I liked the monty hall category. The scene from the movie with kevin spacey is one of my favorites. The student "ben" does a great job explaining why you should switch. The clip is about 2 minutes long. I watch it a few times a month.
@RisetotheEquation very good. I guessed correctly that you were going to explain the problem once i saw your thumbnail. I already did connections and was very interested to see what you were going to say about it.
Very impressive you got Monty Hall. I was left over with Purple and even though I'm very familiar with it, didn't even occur to me. And i suspect few people are aware of the problem at all.
The China Syndrome was a 1979 film about an atomic reactor meltdown. The name comes from the supposed threat that the reactor would melt its way from the USA to China. ( That would be Australia - the Antipodes- for the UK ).

Yes, I tried to explain it that way to friends and they *still* stuck to their original choice. Oh well...

I know the scene as well, great movie. I also think I did a good job explaining it - and, unlike Ben, my version was unscripted!

Math is mathing. Statistics and probability were always confusing for me.

Sinister is left, Dexter is right.
I can't believe Dexter was the right harbour butcher
But yes Sinistra is specifically left handed, with all the negative connotations.
