Debt Free Friday | Almost done with our Roth IRA goal! Working on our 2024 financial goals
Please don’t bring doom and gloom into your UA-cam channel. Americans as a whole need to learn to meet in the middle and not spread so much hate on both sides. I hate the negativity people are posting.
I’m not bringing doom and gloom. I think we’re all feeling very defeated after this month. We’re in a trade war with multiple countries. Everyone’s going to feel the effects. This is reality. 🤷🏻♀️
I’m not feeling defeated at all. For the first time in quite some time I have hope and am excited for change. Please dont make assumptions on how others feel.
Christmas was yesterday, but New Years was 237 weeks ago.
It really feels like that 😩
Oh no I totally had the opposite feeling, January flew by!! But I hate February, hope it will go fast as well. I have been enjoying your Instagram updates 🙂my new years resolutions are going strong as well!
I also am not a huge fan of February either haha. It’s just usually very cold and dreary here in February so it’s hard to get through. Here’s to a good February for us both! ♥️
The longest month ever!
Seriously. So ready for Feb!
Look at you kicking butt on those goals! I have been reading every day too, but only working out 4 times per week. And that’s only walking on my pad or peddling on my under desk bike. I need to incorporate some weights. Yay for $3000 towards your new car!! 😊🎉
Amazing job this month too!! ♥️♥️
Weights are great to incorporate. Not my favorite workouts, but I always feel really accomplished after!
mark your calendars..... next 5 fridays are: May, August, and October! woot woot!
Wooo!
What do you mean in the US??? The United States of America is truly the best country in the world! ❤️🤍💙
I do not support the removal of DEI, suspension of government funded programs that feed children, and mass deportation. At all.
@DearDebt Oh, wow! "At all." I respect your views even if they are far left. I happen to be somewhere in the middle. I think both sides have good arguments. It's too bad we can't find a way to unite. But, I think we can all agree we love our country. I'm sorry that it's causing you so much misery. 🩷
I am glad January is over! We are at 32 months until ALL debt is paid. That’s about 128 more Fridays!
Amazing! You got this, it’ll go by so fast 🔥🙌🏼🫶🏼

Dr's baby step is just a guide. It helps people starts managing money. Who would save only $1000 if they can save more? Who would pay only the smallest debt if they can pay off the biggest one? DR's baby step changed my mindset and i have save more than i ever could.
I don’t disagree with that. But if you have a larger family, or a variable income, etc, $1,000 is not enough to even get through an emergency without getting into more debt. $1,000 barely covers anything these days.
Great Feb budget plan!! ☺ ☺
Thank you!! 😊
Wow I wonder what her out of pocket deductible is. I forget what mine is but $13k seems high for a deductible, so I’d get an itemized bill like you said.
It seems it may also be for multiple years even. But yes always good to get those breakdowns!!
That joint account line item scares me because it doesn’t show the details. Good suggestions… I wish we could save this kind of money every month.
I think it might be too low which may impact the amount to savings potentially
Agreed! This is only her side and to get a full picture I would wonder what the joint account budget looks like, seems low. Interesting way to look at budgeting. I think if me I would cut some of the subscriptions and get the cc debt gone. LOVE this series!
Hi Amy 👋
Hey!!
Johanna, I agree with Amy that you'd benefit from doing a review of the past couple months of spending. Your bills/variable expenses seem shockingly low. I'd actually hold off on increasing your Roth until you have a better handle on exactly what you're spending.
Agree with this!!

I’ve never been in a ‘consumer’ debt situation so no expert experience from me but here’s my 2 cents on how I would handle it…..I have a BBA in Finance….so I feel I can do a tiny bit simple math. 😅🤣😂 Due to the caveat of a 0% balance transfer🙄😵💫😭…..I would make every effort to pay off the debt, yesterday. 😊 So this would be one of two ways I could handle it. I would temporarily minimize my Roth IRA savings….in this situation….I would save $225 and use the $1k towards debt (with a goal in mind to pay it off CCs ASAP so adjusting is key)…so this would be my plan. (of course, the monthly budget changes but I’m using the monthly budget you provided as if it’s the same Jan-Dec - adjust cc pymt accordingly as my plan is a sample) CC#1 June = $4300 / 6 = $717 + $1k from Roth IRA savings payment plan for CC#1: Jan = $1717 Feb = $1717 Mar = $866 === last payment to pay off $4300, DONE!!! This allows the CC to be paid way before June so you can tackle CC#2 quickly too. CC#2 Sept = $5550 / 9 = $617 + $1717 (snowball) payment plan for CC#2: Jan = $617 (min covered - I don’t know if there is a ‘min’ necessary for 0% - if not, my CC#1 pymts would look diff…hence it would be my 2nd way to handle this debt) Feb = $617 (again, min covered - I don’t know if there is a ‘min’ necessary for 0%) Mar = $617 (again, min covered - I don’t know if there is a ‘min’ necessary for 0%) April = $2334 (since CC#1 is paid off by March…you can snowball $1717 starting April - this pymt stings a bit since it is the largest - but good things ahead!) May = $1365 === last payment to pay off $5550, DONE!!! Now both CC’s are paid off by May! There is a big Opportunity to not let debt linger! Starting in JUNE…..you can use $2559 towards saving for EMERGENCY FUND / ROTH IRA on top of the $225/mth already saved, why wait til September if you are able to pay off CCs sooner by ‘temporarily minimizing’ Roth IRA savings. You will still meet the ROTH IRA max contribution before end of the year very quickly and also have extra money for other things and NO Pet name DEBT. hehe! Ok too much zapping from me. I hope I made sense. Lol.🤣 More importantly, I hope she’s able to pay off before expire date. Good Luck Johanna!
Amy great job ! Totally agree with the plan to give her 100 a month ! Nothing makes a budget look awful and restrictive then 0 money for self ! ❤😂Glenda
Thank you! And yes it’s hard if there’s no flexibility or freedom in the budget! Gotta build in those little wins!
If I was in her shoes I would either use the savings today to pay off the debt or leave the money in a high yield savings account and then pay them off at the end of May while working on the emergency fund until then.
Those are great options too!
I really like these! Keep doing them!!
Thank you so much! I love filming them too ♥️
Love this series
Thank you!
I heart ❤you! This was awesome. As you know I working my debt snowball in increments (phase 1 less 1500, phase 2 less than 4000 etc.) but this video is great and motivating to stay disciplined and push forward. Thank you so much keep them coming!
Thank you so much! 🥳🥳🥳 cheering you on as always - you got this!!!!
You are totally on point with your car goal! A quick google search had used pilots for low $20ks and under 100k miles-- all less than 8 years old per Carvana pricing!! You got this!!
Hey sweetie I have a question I have a balance on one credit card that is 2000 ,should I throw as much as possible at this card ,before starting to save in different saving challenges.i think if I do I could pay this out by April or may .Any suggestions,Love watching you ❤❤
I would say yes for credit cards I would pay them off ASAP!
I also think you can go into your banks and ask for them to print statements … you may need to have an appt but I know they should have that service ! ❤Glenda
That’s great! I didn’t even think of that but definitely a good option! ♥️
I couldn't love this video more! I have had pretty much this exact conversation with my 3 adult children as well as numerous friends who have asked for my opinion on finances. You need a budget! And --- you can't make a budget until you know what you are spending! When I decided to retire at 58 I spent so much time working on a REALISTIC budget. I watched so many YT videos and learned so much. They helped me identify some categories of things I wanted to save for or spend money on that I hadn't thought of or had forgotten. Now 4 years later - we are just over here living our best life. The sinking funds make it so stress free when it comes time to pay for things. My categories are much more specific than yours but that's what works for me. Example. I have a category for the Fair because we treat the grandkids and a friend each to the fair every summer. It's hella expensive if you haven't planned for it. I have an Amazon envelope and a Black Friday envelope and an envelope for books and one for crafts, etc. It's just so easy once it is all set up. If there is money in the envelope, we can spend it. If not, we need to plan and save for it. The initial work needed to analyze and set things up is so worth it!
Always nice to hear your vidoes :)
Thank you! 🙏🏼

Thank you so much 😀🥰
There are a few categories that seems to be missing... Water, Auto Insurance & Garbage....
Garbage is included in our property taxes which are escrowed. Water we pay quarterly, car ins we pay twice a year and it comes from our car sinking fund.
Great video! Do you budget any life insurances, etc. in your budget?
My husband and I both have life insurance through our employers (basic and supplemental). For health insurance that also comes out of our check pretax. And for car insurance we pay twice a year and it comes from our car sinking fund 😊
Be careful with the 2017/2018 Pilots. I had a 2018 and had to replace the transmission under 100k, and by 100k the transmission was going out again. Those years have known transmission issues.
Oh good to know. We have a 2018 CRV. I was hoping to get something slightly newer for the pilot but we’ll see
I love this series!!
Thank you!!! ♥️♥️♥️ more coming soon!!
👋🏻
How come no one puts money into savings, savings. Not sinking fund savings that is spent later, but a savings that you never touch? One that you just keep adding to for retirement, besides a 401k or Roth and social security
We have a fully funded emergency fund of $25,000 which is roughly 5-6 months of expenses for us. Saving too much money is cash ends up losing you money in the long term because of inflation, so we invest anything over our emergency fund and sinking fund goals.
You can open up an account totally free with fidelity. For a Roth IRA, you’d be able to contribute $8,000 per year for each of you. I personally invest in low cost index funds that track the S&P 500, and target date retirement funds. Do you know what your 401k is invested in? It’s normal for it to go up and down. Investing is not linear.
@@DearDebt I don't know the investments. His company has changed companies 4 times in the last 15 years. We've only had this current one for about a year I think. Everything is in one thing, which I know isn;'t good it was split into a few things but at some point when they switched investment companies it all got put into one. I'm thinking its because they didn't offer what it had been in. My husband is the one who would have to make the changes and he really doesn't care all that much. It's frustrating. He hasn't even logged into that account since they switched companies. They do send us statements 4 times a year.
Hi Amy 👋 great video 😊🩵
Thank you so much 😊
Hi 👋 new subscriber here from my budgeting channel 🤗 I just found your channel. Here watching and supporting 😊
Thanks for being here Abigail ♥️🥰♥️
I would hope mint mobile pays u well since u do a lot of sponsorships with them
They pay me enough and I feel it’s worth it. I truly enjoy Mint and it’s one of the only sponsorships I’ve ever accepted. I get a ton of requests but decline 98% of them 😬
I think you can find a used car . IF you keep saving after you purchase your used car….in a year or so you can trade up for a better used car and still avoid debt. Don’t blame you one bit for avoiding debt!!
For sure!
Great video Amy! My #1 financial goal this year is to pay down my student loan. It’s a stretch goal, but I want to pay it off in two years. I also have an old vehicle so I’m not throwing g everything at the student loan. I’m determined to purchase my next car for cash. I know it will be a very used car as I can’t send as much to that sinking fund because of the student loan but it is what it is. I’m hoping my current vehicle will hold out for two years. 🤞 January is always my lowest income month and this month was very low compared to last year. So I’m extending my “no spend” challenge into February out of necessity. It’s been going great though, I’ve only had two times I’ve had to “break” my rules, but in both instances I had the cash for it and I’m still within my goals so I’m fine with it. Thanks for sharing your journey, it is so helpful in motivating me! See you next week!
Great job! You are going to crush that loan I just know it!!! 🥰🥰♥️♥️
You’re doing it exactly how Dave R recommends. Get a car you can afford, then save some more and get a better car, and keep doing that. We found 2019 and up minivans (Honda Odysseys and Siennas) in the $20-$35k range under 100k miles last year so I’m sure you can get an SUV in your target range ❤
Yes that’s what we’re hoping. We’re not afraid of some miles especially if it’s a Honda. My husbands Honda has almost 200k miles and runs like a dream still!
We just purcashed our 3rd all cash "not 1k junkers" and it is my favorite thing!! My suburban is closing in on 200,000 miles but I drive SO much for work that i just refuse to entertain selling it until i absolutely have to!
It’s the best feeling walking off the lot without a car loan hanging over you 🤩
20k absolutely will get you a good SUV. we just got a super nice honda van for 10k. My next vehicle will be another suv of some sort and I have no intention of paying more than $20k. Worry 'bout you, you're doing great! People always have things to say. 😂
Absolutely haha and that makes me feel great that you found something for that price. We don’t want to spend more than $20k because we have so many other priorities this year. A car is a car and I honestly hate even putting $20k to it haha
I’m excited to see what you actually buy the vehicle for eventually! I can’t wait to do this one day as well.
You and me both! Haha ♥️
I don't usually go here (hi! subscribing now!) but I wanted to thank Nicole and you and everyone else who shares their financial situation with us out here. It's so vulnerable and I appreciate it so much. I've learned so much from content like this.
Thank you for being here!!! I agree it’s so helpful to be able to learn from others in the community ♥️♥️♥️
Honda Pilot is an excellent car. I have an older one (2011) with 233k miles and runs like a dream, very little repair needs.
I’ve heard great things about them!!!
You are doing what’s best for your family. Don’t worry about what other people have to say! 😂
Absolutely 🥰♥️
People are conditioned to believe debt is a way of life and attempts to resist are futile. Your family will find a lovely vehicle. Keep going 😊
Thank you! 😊 ♥️♥️♥️
Even if that 2007 Honda accord has 300k if you sell it on Facebook you will probably get at least 2k we always look for accords or civics because they last!
It’s got under 200k still! It’s in very good shape. We will probably look at private selling it, because we could likely get much more that way. We’ll have to wait to see how the timing works out
@mickelsonfamilyhomestead absolutely this! Certainly would get 2k. Sold an odyssey with well over 200k earlier this year for 3k! They hold their value so so well!
@ excellent!! Can’t wait to see what we can get for it.
