I would have let the solder cool down, cleaned the board, then apply heat to the solder points. This just helps make the process a little cleaner and you're a little bit more steady with your movements not having to try and quickly replace a component. Great video!

Hey great video! I have an old 3DS XL myself however I think the previous owner tried to mod it and bricked the motherboard. You got any ideas on how to potentially save it? Sadly there is no NAND Backup available.

Great video dude. Now you have a bunch of spare parts and an idea for the next video. Can't believe in what horrible shape that one 3DS came in. At least you manged to do something good out of it ^^ I do own a 3ds Xl myself which I've modded (and my wifes 3ds). Super simple these days. All just require a sd-card and some software exploits :)

Incredible video man, that second 3ds came in such wild shape. They just threw everything in a plastic bag and said good enough lol. That motherboard swap turned out nice, now you have a working 3ds and some donor boards and parts if you decide to reshell the other board. I would really enjoy that video if you decide to do that. Just a tip, you’ll want to start at the ends of the black cover piece when disassembling the controller. This should prevent you from breaking your pry tool.

Hey man stumbled across your channel, I myself did this in my series s and it was a pain I had to like do this 5 times because the hardest part was soldering the pins to the hdmi long story short I used FLUXXX like a good amount of Flux added solder to my soldering tip and went one by one it worked and I was surprised that was my first time soldering and I was frustrated. Also, use the hot air with the solder sucker it works better than using the soldering tip, recommend using low melt solder to take stuff like this reallllllly easy and fast faster than leaded solder and idk if you did it didn’t buy soldering wick that’s for you to clean solder of the pins you removed or sockets and buy use isopropyl alcohol I use 99% it dries in a matter of seconds other than that good job man

More corrosion than board lol

Another tip for water damaged devices is to take pictures of each area that is water damaged before you clean them so that you know where the damaged areas are after cleaning. Plenty of times after cleaning I have had to go back to areas and troubleshoot further. Often it's a BGA with hidden corrosion, corrosion hidden under a connector or in a connector or a component that sloughs off the board when I touch it.

Water damage can be nasty. Liquid flux and a reheat can do a really good job after you've brushed with IPA. Just make sure it gets hot enough else it can remain conductive. Be wary of BGA chips as the corrosion is likely going underneath. This is where liquid flux and some heat can help. Flux and some heat can help a lot with FPC connectors as well. The corrosion can be anywere on the U shaped pins. Just don't go high enough to melt. My favorite toothbrushes for this are Curaprox ones because the bristles are so fine that they get into many places normal brushes cannot. Brushes tend to clean up really easy by soaking them in IPA and then just brushing a cloth/paper towel. Did you take a look under all the shields?

Great video man, that was one corroded board. I really thought there would have been more damage with all that corrosion but it looks like just the screen which is wild. It's nice that you have a donor board now, I think after Christmas I may try to buy a few broken switchs or switch lites and Frankenstein one together for myself. Keep up the phenomenal work man.

Awesome video man, it's nice that it was only the charge port that needed replacing and something not too crazy. It is crazy how hard it is to get into that speaker, took longer to take apart than it did to fix lol. This was a blast to watch man, keep up the phenomenal work.

It's happened to me a couple of times where I bought "for parts only" stuff on EBAY and, when I got it, there was nothing wrong with it. A lot of the sellers just buy stuff in bulk and don't test it. (Many times because they don't want to spend the money to buy a power supply for a unit they think is probably bad.)

The components underneath the chip at 5:42 are caps not resistors. At 6:18 the holes in the board are for via stitching for thermal or high current/power reasons. They are also quite likely blind vias (not all the way through) and connecting to a layer/plane/copper pour. At 6:41 you have to be careful and quantify the resistance to ground. Lots of modern boards can have circuits that are very low resistance normally. Especially cpu/apu/gpu vcore for example. Cool about the powersupply. It will definitely come in handy. The big bank of inductors 8:50 are likely a bunch of phases for APU and would only be powered when the console is on. At 10:51 interesting that you found a short there was there a inductor output that was shorted? Checking each large inductor on the board you will basically be covering each rail. At 11:03 the fuse blew because too much current went through it. Likely the shorted capacitor caused a large current to flow through the fuse. If you find something hot that is in line/series/feeding other stuff then likely the short is further up in something that is connected between a power rail and ground. In this case the dead fuse is a clue that something on that rail is shorted. Good idea to inject power on the other side of the open fuse. Nice find with the isopropyl alcohol trick. Did the fuse any markings on it? Congrats on the fix.

Hey I'm just getting into soldering myself and I seen your solder sucker and I was recommended to NOT buy the one you have but a one with a silicon tip. It's soft and you can get a good seal on the contact and it's also easily replaceable. I don't think youtube allows link but if you want I can send you the link on aliexpress elsewhere. I just got it in the mail today
