ALLDATA time for R&I engine is 17.1 hours. Clutch 7.5 hr. Engine comes out the bottom with half the suspension.
I bet the car feels the same way about you too 🤣
The trouble with any year Corvette, General Mayhem has always ben trying to compete with higher end Cars. Performance wise it worked and back when I bought my first ( a ‘70 LS6 , new) it eas till quite affordable to own /fix. That fact made overlooking the ,quite honestly, crappy build quality livable. As the ridiculous price increases over Generations went more and more on par with the likes of the Europeans, this became an issue. Along the way, I ended up living in Europe and bought Porsche 930. one word, regarding the Interior/ Seats “ Recaro”. Why the General couldn’t find it for itself to put those i their “Halo-Car” is beyond me. Especially since that seems to be an ongoinf cpmplaint.
Seats were an issue thru the 6th gen. I think by 7th gen they got much better and our C8 (2023) are excellent.
_If a buyer prefers a non-electronic distributor C4(1991 or older), often times the valve seals(especially 1991s) will need replacing. As well as a fuel pressure regulator. Other than that, you pretty much hit all the issues. And yes, those service records mean the difference between a purchase, and a hard pass._
Ppf should be the first thing installed or at the same time
Looking at a 2025 right now, really want to buy it but I’m hesitating a little bit
Getting into and out of a C4 is why I don't buy one. Love the look.
my father had a 1993 LT1, same wheels, same colour...i loved it, i was maybe 10 yo at the time...what memories going to school in it...Unfortunatly my dad passed away in december 2024, but this car will always speak to me
Thanks so much!
You are using it wrong, Tom. This is a compliance vehicle. EV ownership is a lifestyle. You've got to be committed and involved in it to know how to avoid the pitfalls. I just finished a three year lease on a Niro EV and it wasn't a great car, all in all. But it was reliable and it saved thousands worth of gas on my wife's 64 mile a day commute, over the three years. Charging was always done at home overnight. No issues there. The most important takeaway from your video is that Hertz is gonna be selling Polestars for cheap any day now!
Agree. I own a Kia Niro as well. It's made to be charged at home on a Level 2 charger. Should only be used at super chargers for emergencies because it charges WAY too slow. Definitely not a great option for a rental vehicle. Ioniq 5 (i also own) is much faster, goes up to 200+ kw/h and charges from 20-80 in 18 minutes. but honestly Tesla is really the only car that is worth renting because of the Tesla super charger network.
@@derricktint exactly. Tom was making content and this worked out for him. It sends the wrong message to the buying public, though. If you own a place, can install charging, and have a significant commute (20-30 miles each way), you should be driving an EV. It's a no brainer and it will save you thousands in fuel and maintenance each year. As for Stressla, not a big fan at all.
On a recent trip to Orlando I rented a Model 3 through Budget. Everything went super smooth. While the driver's side window switch was broken. The car was fine otherwise. It even came with included supercharging. Which was a godsend as I just so happened to be there exactly as a hurricane was about to make landfall. Gas stations had lines. Superchargers were mostly empty. Just plugged it in and bam. Charging.
I have around 30 EV rentals from Hertz. It depends on location some will advise you on what to do but most dont. LHR was okay for this but Sixt is by far the best for EV rentals based on my experience in Europe. Avis is decent as well.
I tried to rent a Polestar "or similar" in London. Ended up with a petrol Mercedes :)
Having to download and register and account in a ton of different apps just to charge a car is the most infuriating thing about EV's, even ahead of range limitations. Here in Spain there are at least 32 apps.
so, just like every other joe shmoe that uploads an EV video you have proved that we are decades away from the progress that we want. thanks, move along.
That's totally awesome!! I got a brand new '77 442 when l graduated high school. It was white with maroon interior and maroon stripes! It was so much fun!!
Hoping off of a Polestar to a Kia must have been disappointing.
beautiful 🏁
Hertz is completely clueless when it comes to EV rentals. They have tried to sell off most of their Tesla fleet, which was the only EV that would be easily charged. And they have no idea where the charging stations are located within their local regions. I have found that at some rental locations they do a good job of charging the cars before they are sent out, but that is not consistent. They do not provide charging adapters for the non-Tesla EVs to be able to charge them at Tesla superchargers. Your EA charging experience seems a lot better than what I have experience previously, but the charging speed of the Kia is abysmal as others have noted. Another thing that Hertz was doing with their Tesla fleet was sending out the 'long-range' Model 3 and Model Y vehicles charged to nearly 100%. The 'standard-range' vehicles have LiFePo batteries, which can tolerate that consistantly, but the NMC Li ion batteries is the long-range vehicles are not designed to tolerate charging to 100% routinely. It's really ashamed that they have done such a poor job with their EV rentals, since it really leaves a bad taste in their customer's mouths towards EVs.
I rented a Tesla Model 3 in Denver during a short trip and it was a blast. The Tesla charging infrastructure was a breeze and the experience was a blast. It was cheap too.
2 key fobs dying on a 2 year old car at the exact same time while they made it precisely to their parking spots sounds very implausible. Probably they mixed up the keys after parking them. Can't blame a flat tire on the car either. Not suggesting you were blaming the polestar for either issue, just aware that some people viewing might come to those conclusions. Personally I'm perplexed that Hertz ever thought EV rentals were going to take off in the first place. Unless you are home charging, they are just plain comparatively impractical even with the best charging infrastructure. The only people who should rent them are the people who know very well what they're getting.
Kia niro is more meant to charge only overnight at home, the dc fast charging performance is abysmal, in my car (ioniq 6) as long as it isn't super cold anything to 80 takes less than 30 minutes. If it is relatively warm 18%-80% takes less than 20 minutes.
I have an ioniq 5 and only use EA to charge because I travel for work and I'm not home during the week (stay at a hotel) and have free charging at EA. The station I use during the week has a niro there nightly, he has to sit for about 1.5 hours every day to charge. I talked to him for a few minutes the other day and he said it's actually his wife's vehicle..I guess he just takes it and charges it for her? I dunno, he said he'd never buy another EV because of it. I told him he just needs to buy a quicker charging EV. He said he even plugs it in nightly at home (didn't say if it was level 2 or level 1 only, I assume level 1 only since he's charging to 80 percent or more at EA and then down to 30 percent the next night). He said one day a couple weeks ago when it was really cold (does niro not have preconditioning maybe?) he had to sit there for over 3 hours. Geez.
i have a tesla and got into a car accident the measures i have went just to try to even get a electric car to drive as a replacement has been a nightmare. your video couldn’t be more than the truth lol !
the big problem is the entire ICE industry & the gov. stand to lose billions so make things as hard as possible for EVs. FYI - I rented a Tesla from Hertz in San Francisco last year and had no issues. It was my first time to drive and EV. I had no instructions and found it very straight forward.
😹😹😹😹😹
Beautiful
Been renting long term fleet for almost 2.5 years. They couldn't throw the tesla 3 at me more in which I never accepted. I could write an encylopedia on how Hertz has done everything possible to besides charging me for an EV "fuel level" on return not being full or thrown me in jail for a mismarked stolen car (although they did put me on Do Not Rent accidently thinking my vehicle was stolen). Just today they 'ran out' of vehicles for me to rent and had sold my long term rental out from under me. I had to drive it to them and Uber myself home, with no vehicle, and they never have anything to rent. Hertz is spelled wrong. Won't even say the latest on them just "taking" over $1k from my bank account for a "computer glitch" over a year ago. "Steer clear".
Why didn't you Choose one of the Maseratis way better, than the stupid EV's
Haha they have even downgraded you to a KIA after the Polestar.
30ct per minute, It's like paying a hooker.
Yep KIA is really rubbish with it charging speeds.
You really need to know the max charging capacity of the EV you are driving. Not only are you wasting your time, but the time of others who need to charge if your vehicle is sitting at a fast charger that your vehicle can't even utilize....
And what exactly would you suggest? I am renting an EV and staying at an Airbnb where I can't charge it. Public fast chargers are my only option.
@ yes, I understand that, but knowing that the Niro can only accept a max 85kw charge you should only use a 150kw charging station, let other EVs that can accept higher speeds use the 350kw chargers. You’re not charging any faster if you used either one.
this hertz to watch... they really need to better maintain their fleet
The Niro is the older Kia EV tech, The EV6 is a lot faster.
DC Fast chargers should be your last choice to charge. The benefit of an electric vehicle is to charge at home or at work, thus not having to worry about taking a detour to a charging station. As for roadtrips, depending on the ev it can either be a good experience or pretty terrible. And to be honest renting an ev is in general a bad idea unless you for example have charging at your hotel or air bnb. So to your point, for the near future, yeah they should focus on hybrids as they are more compatible with the majority of people's use.
The problem is they are renting
I'm in the UK, I've driven an EV for 4 years and around 80,000 miles in the UK and across Europe, on long a short trips. I have also hired EVs in the Netherlands, Germany and Norway. This video, in no way, reflects my experience of driving an EV in earnest. US charging is nowhere near as good in USA as it is in UK and Europe. I'm renting an EV in LA in March, from Hertz and I am looking forward to it.
Good luck. Just don't get a Kia Niro. Go with a Tesla...
@@FindtheRightRoad I am on my 2nd Audi Etron, others in the family have a Q4, Q6, Tesla Model Y, Model X and a Fiat 500e. Your post is not an accurate representation of EV ownership and charging, particularly in the UK.
This is America. Don't expect much.
@philhartley7564 LA you might be ok, the CCS scene is better there than the vast majority of the country. Still, Tesla is alone in top shelf in North America. For now, anyway. Gap is closing, but as a rental in an unfamiliar town, it’s how I’d go every time.
@@aoeuuaoaou TBH I'm astonished that the US is so far behind and charger infrastructure and I guess, soon to be even further behind.
continentals horrible.. first 50 miles excellent grip... then good for spin outs. traction is horrible for z rated tires.
The ecbm board is potted and thats why it cant be repaired. On the early ones.
Certainly doesn't make me want to get an electric car.
Ownership vs rental is a VERY different experience.
As I drive around in my powered gas car, I feel sorry for anyone in an EV. As I pull up next to them the first thing I think is (that person would believe anything), gullible.
Yet another reason not to buy a KIA.
I feel like it's been said many times before, but as of now EVs are just sort of ineffective and slow (not velocity wise) compared to other vehicles, but they'll eventually later in the future grow to be more reliable means of transportation
That’s been said a lot … by people that don’t know wtf they are talking about and/or have a vested interest in spreading BS. LOL
@aoeuuaoaou I mean I haven't really been caught up to speed as of lately so you might not be entirely wrong there
@ As of late? You're about 5-6 years behind reality.

What to look for when shopping for a C4. The first thing would be a C5
Would absolutely love this car with just analog style gauges, A/C and a stick with clutch pedal and nothing else. Would drive it like I stole it. Have a C7 Z06 3Lz. Big mistake not opting for the manual. transmission.
You can bitch about any 20 year old car. All those things you mention are easily repaired. The gas cap cover open button location and cup holder, really! My 02 Zo6 was the best money I ever spent!
The torque tube in them are a pain when the couplers and berrings wear out and you have to replace them. Common issue on C5s..
Too many problems with the c 5!
Not really most of them are age issues which happen to all cars
My late dad's car buddy had a 70th Anniversary Edition and his car kept going into a state of not being able to start no matter what he or the dealer did. He kept the battery on the OEM trickle charger. I don't recall whether it always got drained or the dealer always had to reset his whole system to get him going again. When I saw this recall I traced it back to his issue. Some cars (like his) attempt an over-the-air update but some software bug causes it to not complete the update over-the-air. So it forces the system into an error state (like the blue screen of death for Windows) and only the dealer can hard reboot it. Or if the update always errors out, it might force the system into an infinite loop of reattempts which kills the battery. His car would spontaneously not start days or weeks apart which tells me that's when the car (or GM's server) spontaneously decides to update his car over-the-air. I suspect the recall fixes this bug so that over-the-air updates don't fail. But the bug fix needs to be done reliably over-the-wire at the dealer.
I live in Scotland 🏴 & have a 2001. I agree with your points. I have just resoldered the relay on the pcm & cleaned the pcm chassis ground next to the battery. It cured the fault I’m pleased to report. My sun visors are ok but I will replace in the future. We don’t get so much sun here so the dash is ok but the reflection when it’s sunny is terrible so I’ve purchased a carpet cover. I have upgraded the headlights to the Nightdrivetv LEDs which look great & light up the road. This euro uk car has ‘Thatcham’ approved alarm system fitted by GM in Belgium. With the ‘Toad’ alarm system a different remote fob is used, so along with the buttons to unlock/lock the car there are a couple of small buttons one of which needs to be pressed after the ignition is on to deactivate the immobiliser, so annoying. These buttons also unlock the hatch & also the fuel filler door😮 Great car, great looks, great sound & great performance 🏁
So should I get this car at 6k? Like is it worth it. It’s too sexy
If that is all the money you have to spend: No. If you have $10K and can save the other $4K for possible repairs: Yes.
BUT OFCR
LOVE THAT !!
I am in the same boat right now!!! and i didn’t want an electric- they said only one available and gave me no info!! they were rude and i feel so unsafe with a car i don’t know how to use
