    Great video. I do measure the top and get the average, but when I can, I like to cut my borders length of fabric so I don't have to piece it. I cut my border strip a little longer and then trim to equal my average measurement.

    Would I use a sharp (denim, Microtex) or a ballpoint (universal, etc) when stitching tackle twill (somewhat thick, dense fabric) onto a sports jersey (100% polyester knit)? It's basically putting numbers on a jersey- the numbers are thick and seem like they'd need a sharp needle to pierce through, but the polyester jersey is a knit and a sharp would rip the threads? Would a ballpoint work? Or am I overthinking it? Just don't want to ruin the number kit or the jersey, I'm going to order some needles online this week (I bought 100/16 denim needles but the hole is a bit too big, and I'm worried the sharp will damage the jersey itself- but it goes through the tackle twill fine). Thanks for any advice, just bought my first machine to do this last week

      This is not something I’ve done. I understand your hesitation about ruining things. There are all sorts of needle variations. My approach would be to contact Schmetz needle manufacturer. They gave all sets of resources there and I bet they would answer your question personally if it’s not on the site. They even gave someone doing a little video snippet periodically. www.schmetzneedles.com/ And let me know what you find out! I’m curious!

      @@prettysimplesara Thanks. I sent them the question. Great Advice ! You know I have a couple of three of those magnetic seam guides and the biggest reason I don't use them is that they are MAGNETIC and most new home sewing machines are not metal anymore so they cannot stay in place if you are trying to maintain an allowance not marked on the throat plate - which is what I wanted them for.... :) Thanks for the video Sara :)

    Thank you, I still have difficulties to sewing straight lines especially on tiny projects where the margins to sewing are at 5.mm or 4 mm and they have a lace/trim or tiny ruffles that have a certain "thickness", so a straight line , at a margin of 4 or 5 mm seems almost impossible to mantain and I need to "touch" it to keep the tiny ruffle at right place as it moves a little if I dont keep with fingers at place (since is tiny ruffle, or lace, I cannot even use pins it will make "lift" too much the work... but I see other works of similar items (for example sewing strings of 2 cm x 12 cm, with a ruffle or trim in a border of 4 or 5 mm) their results are perfect, mine, always not neat sewing lines. and is not certainly the First time I use sewing machine, that I need to be accustomized to use it.. are since 2012 that I use it but Yet , for tiny projects or even big, but that requires a straigh , neat lines I was not able. So Im sure there is a method others use it or knows that nobody teach me. I have manuality so I dont get it why I should not be able to make it me too? Im sure theres tricks and methods they use to do lines so perfect and I saw people tutorials that make straight lines that not own not even sophiaticates machines... they have some old vintage sewing machines.... 😢 please helps to become decent lines... moreover , my machine electrical, goes too fast.. so I try to rotate manually the wheel " but still , lines not comes straight as I wish (even more worse). And Im afraid this could damage the machine? Or is ok to advance slowly with it , manually, in case I will find a way to better sewing lines?

    • @prettysimplesara
      @prettysimplesara 14 днів тому

      It is okay to advance manually as long as you always rotate the hand wheel towards you, never away from you. Some people use glue instead of pins. When I’m sewing on an edge I use a special foot designed for edges. I’m going to think a little more on this, but wanted to write at least something back to you to start.

    • @prettysimplesara
      @prettysimplesara 12 днів тому

      I thought of one more thing I would do and that would be to cut the fabric a little longer so you can sew with the lace fully on the fabric and then trim it back to edge later.... But I also know that this whole lace thing things is NOT in my expertise area so I went hunting on YT. and found these examples of creating a hemmed attached lace. ua-cam.com/users/shorts2rdBnm5C94I?si=BSBQlIWxAyS0KlrL ua-cam.com/video/sTzu9qhgRRc/v-deo.html Let me know how it goes!

    Thank you so much for your simple yet detailed explanations! I shook my head and laughed at your reasons for changing a needle more often (in a good way)!! I have also been a naysayer who doesn't believe in changing the needle super often. That being said, I never thought about how much we put our needles through by the hour or even by the minute! Thank you for the specifics of what a needle does in the course that time. It definitely shows good reason for needle-changing! Generally speaking, any time I'm having difficulty with the stitches from my embroidery/sewing/serger machines, a new needle and rethreading often fixes the issue without any further tampering. 😊

    i have an old industrial sowing machine that runs on 3 phase. i don't have 3 phase at home so i bough an inverter to turn 1phase 220v to 3 phase 220v. and that inverter has a knob to turn down the phase frequency, and even if i turn it down to the point where the motor doesn't stall when i clutch it, it is already like 5x the speed that you are running. it does have a clutch motor and the clutch is very sensitive. you can do slowly, but is really hard. and on regular 3 phase the engine would be spinning like 5x that speed that i am running i just have amazement to the sowers who worked with these kinds of machines. and mine is german high quality sowing machine so it is better than most of that era. good clutching skills are needed on this machine.
