Many thanks for the video and info. I just performed this on my 2023 V85TT. I have original downpipes, catalyser and air filter, so it was for just a slip on silencer (Unit Garage Double High pipe). With the UpMap App it was an easy and problem free installation. I used the map Code: V85 21 EU ZRD SO Map for Zard approved SlipOn. I'm very happy with the results. The bike is much improved at low revs and small throttle openings. It's easier to ride and is far more natural on feeding in the throttle mid bend. The engine pulls better in low revs in second and third gear. Combined with a small but noticeable increase in mid range the engine is far more lively and fun. So far fuel consumption appears to be about the same. I debated whether to invest. It's expensive for what I consider should already be provided from the factory. But I suppose that is due to emissions/ noise regulations and restrictions. Overall I am impressed and love my V85TT even more!!
Thanks for the positive feedback.. Yes I'm very pleased with my map for the exact same reasons and advantages you have noticed.. I ride off road a lot if you've watched any more of my vids. And the snatchy throttle at low revs was a nightmare.. Now it's silky smooth. Keep an eye on the channel as I'm about to leave on a 1y day tour of France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Netherlands.. We leave on the 11th July.. 👍🏻
Great news.!
I'm relieved.
Excellent. What was the fix?
New throttle. The potentiometer went on the old one one.
That's better! Awesome fix.
Big relief. The Euro trip was in jeopardy, if it hadn't worked.
We are missing this sound Bucky.
Fingers 🤞 the new throttle arrives on Tuesday, if that doesn't work, it's booked in with an Italian specialist mechanic to try and reset it all
What if you ran out? You'd have to wait another few thousand miles for the rest of the fence😂
🤣🤣 I did run out. Gonna have to go beg for some from my local bike mechanic 😜
I had a similar problem on my Stelvio 1200 … in my case the problem were the sparks plugs…. I used double electrodes plugs and all good ! Good luck to you and enjoy your trip.
Thank you, thank you for sharing! I was dealing with my fingers going to sleep on the throttle hand during rides.(V85tt) I just did this mod, wow what a differance! I drilled the screw head carfully and put an easyout in a battery drill and very slowly backed them right out. Then replaced them with a phillips screw. Thanks agin, enjoy your ride
It totally transformed the ride comfort on longer rides.. Glad it worked for you.. 👍🏻 I'm about to record my 12k review in a week or 2
Sorry to hear about your issue, have you tried putting the original map back on?
I put the standard exhaust on and loaded the original map, which made it worse.. 🤷♂️ The throttle now doesn't work at all..
@@buckymoto1784 sounds like a part needs replacing or cleaning. As others have said it probably needs a main dealer with the PADS diagnostic kit to locate the issue. It's a nuisance but it's probably the quickest way to find a solution.
Great scenic views!
Thankyou for stopping by and giving me feedback... Much appreciated 👍
Perfect if you live next to the salty stuff👌
2 miles away from me 👍🏻
Been watching for a while, great vlogs it would be nice to meet on the road at some stage. The v85tt is how I got here.Toying with getting one in the future currently on an R1200RT.
And it would seem a Mk1 Multistrada 👌🏼 I owned one also. Took it to France.. 19 yrs ago.
😂That's a bit creepy 😱
Hi...I have both a V100S and a E4 V85. Both have shown urgent alarm service. For thr V85 this was a lambda sensor and it showed up as an error I could read with Guzzi Diag. The V100 though....a brand new bike....shows urgent alarm with no code. You are describing limp mode. Between me and the dealer we have diagnosed low cranking voltage so.....IMHO look at cranking video from cold and buy guzzi diag with a cable.....please let us know how you get on
Guzzidiag doesn't work with 2021 V85TT. (New ecu won't work.) the code I can see with upmap shows a throttle (c) sensor issue. This seems to point to a TPS reset is required.
Motto Guzzy have a dealer in Dublin ?
Thanks.. I think this might be my option if my local mechanic can't fix in a weeks time.. 👍🏼. At least I won't need a boat 🤣
Location is the same reason butting me of a nordon 901
I am lucky I have a main Husky dealer 20 miles from me. My previous bike if you look at some of my very 1st videos was a Husky svartpilen 701... Its the bike I started the channel with. If I could own 2x bikes it would be this V85 and a Svart 701 👌🏼👑😎 Norden are class looking bikes
Good luck Bucky. I've had a couple of Guzzis & currently run a Griso 1200SE. There's a few people in this thread that clearly hv never owned an Italian bike & don't understand that they're all the unfinished article & require remapping & a pipe etc to make them run properly. Your mods seem entirely appropriate to me & the suggestions from those who do know what they're talking about are likely correct that it's a sensor (but which one?) that's put the bike into limp mode. I recommend you go onto the MG forums & ask them what the error code means. You'll get a ton of great advice back, no negativity & you might even turn up more local expertise! PS - if you Google the PO255 error code, it points to a TPS failure.
Having had 3x ducati in my lifetime of riding I'm well used with the Italian way 🤣 this is my 1st Gootsi, I love the bike. It's just awkward now we don't have a MG dealer in our country... The bike runs superbly with the mods. It runs cooler in summer and gives no knocking or pinking. The few extra bhp are also nice. As I take it off road a lot the mods give it far superior smooth throttle in lower rpm. For easier negotiating of the terrain.. I have the bike booked in with a local bike mechanic who isn't sure if he can read Guzzi. But if he can pinpoint the issue I will be glad.. One person on FB has the exact same code as I do. His bike is actually in a dealer RN waiting on a new throttle.. I hope this is also my issue.
@@buckymoto1784 Fingers crossed!
Im sorry to hear. Its a common thing, workshops or dealer dislike or even turn down fixing privately customized bikes. It could take Weeks to even locate the error. Performance-Tuning always messes with many Components and their lifespan, even with some Parts People didnt even thought of. It sounds like this will take you luck to find a willing Workshop and a bunch of Time&Money. Consider carefully, if you even want to invest this. Thanks for the Video and sharing your story, its a good lesson for others to think twice before modifying some vital components on their V85TT. I wish you all the best.
I am afraid Guzzi Will not do much !!! You perhaps did too many modifications (?)
I agree, I was never taking it to Guzzi in the 1st place..
disconnect the battery and leave on charge for a day. Worth a try and cost nothing.
Alrasdy tried, but thanks for the tip.. 👍🏼
Is there no Piaggio dealer in the South? There was one in Dublin? I think you may struggle to get a resolution if it’s been remapped etc as when it’s put on the Piaggio PADS system it will be out of spec. It’s going to be difficult finding a dealer who wants to actually do some diagnostics as whilst they are chasing your problems around they could be changing the oil in 4 bikes.
Why do people think they have to tune a non-race, urban commuter engine? Ridiculous. And now what, we shall give advise how to fix a broken bike, where almost everything’s messed up? You’d likely have a hard time finding a garage to work on your bike. The guzzi is fine as it comes. If you want guzzi race power get a 1100/1200 race bike, properly set up and tuned by dynotec germany. But regardless, if you have no solid moto guzzi background or a garage specialized, I wouldn’t buy any bike, especially no tractors or derivates from (guzzi, harley, indian, …) that people claim being simple, not even japanese. Get a Honda Scooter, then. It’s Hilarious to tune the bike with modules and mappings, without a garage actually designing and measuring all up, having no clue and then going online asking people without the know about the bike’s real history to give opinions about an opinionated view of what’s broken.
🤣 1. Who's wanting to race.. The bike is strangled due to E5 regs. All I and many thousands of others are doing is give the Gootsi it's full potential. The decat also get rid of a LOT of heat from the motor.. 2. There was a dealer but they gave up the franchise 4mths ago. I take mine off road a lot. The standard setup was rubbish. A very snatching throttle at low speed with zero smooth articulation of the throttle with ghost surging.. The new setup has fixed all those issues. 3. It's my bike, not yours. You keep yours standard if that's what floats your boat. I'll do whatever the heck I want with mine 😘. 4. If you don't have any real suggestions scroll on by...
I'm no motorcycle expert...but have you thought about taking it to a DEALER?
The local dealer gave up the franchise 4mths ago. Nearest is 350 miles away and a 6hrs boat over the Irish Sea
Yeah well...single source on an island. Fix it and trade it in for something with broader coverage. It's not like you got much choice mate. You need to plan a long weekend and head to the mainland.
@@brentharrington9235 it's completly bricked now.. The throttle doesn't even work.. I don't own a car with towbar. For a trailor hire.
@@buckymoto1784 dang that's a tight spot. You are going to need to hire someone. ...you're telling me you got not a single person on that entire island that can work on Italian bikes? In the states we have bike shops that specialize in "European" bikes. They can work on anything from Triumph to Ducati to KTM. We just call them Metric Mechanics. Your entire nation is metric, you can't find ANYONE?
@@brentharrington9235 I have found a guy but he can't look at it for 4 weeks. It's riding season here now all the garage queen bikes are out now along with the winter riders. Mechanics are super busy. I have asked in local fb pages, there doesn't seem to be any dedicated Italian mechanics. There was one but he retired last year. He did my bikes 1st service.
Tight valves ?
Adjusted, 3 weeks ago in prep for its 12k service. Oils were all changed 4 days ago, that is when the limp mode started when I took it a ride
@@buckymoto1784 so it started after the service? It’s possible that they adjusted the valves incorrectly. All the symptoms of tight valves. Hard cold starts then easy start when hot. It’s easy enough to check them if you are handy with tools. Lots of videos on here talking you through the process.
@@radiocrash I'm the one does the servicing. Valves are perfect 👌🏼 the cold starting issue was present even before I adjusted the valves 3 weeks ago... The valves where almost perfect. The intakes wer pretty much spot on. The exhaust wer maybe a little loose
@@buckymoto1784 agh fair enough
people mess around with their bike esp the ecu and complaint if it doesn't work properly anymore?
Am I complaining? The bike has run superbly for 9mths modified. It's not the mods that is the issue, it's somthing has broken, got corroded, fell off or worn through a wire. I love the bike, it just needs fixed. The issue is there is now no MG dealer within 350 miles of me including needing to get a boat
Hi there, There is a MG dealer in Dublin, Megabikes. Might be worth contacting them for advice. Hope that the bike is sorted soon
@@jamesgriffin3126 cheers. I'll look into it.. If the private mechanic isn't able to sort it.
I’d start by replacing the crank angle pickup sensor, it’s quite inexpensive and easy to do.. Griso had the same issue. It’s a magneti Marelli sensor, that should fix it
Thanks for the bit of advice 👍🏼
In my old suzuki intruder vl1500, the dummy switch on the clutch lever gave me problems after riding in the rain, and a cable that lifted the valves to help turn over would get stretched and needed adjustment. That and weak battery were the few reasons it never started. Just to give you a possibility maybe when the valves were adjusted on your moto Guzzi it wasn't on top dead center?
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏼
A very honest video/vlog. I think Wes has the wrong attitude- if I book a diagnostic/service slot, that is my slot. Not some of my mates, closer customers etc. Not a good look for a business (in my opinion). Hope you get sorted soon
Really hope you get this sorted, quickly and not much €€! Mate sorry to read this. That sounded horrid, not what a MG should sound like at all 😢
Thanks for the comment I'm hoping it isn't mega bucks either. 🙏
Sorry to hear you have issues, it’s one of the things which put me off the MG. I hope you get this sorted completely and without too much cost!
Thanks.. 👍🏼
Meh I've had 4 MG now, nary an issue with any of em. Well, one of them died after it was crashed at 70mph, but I can't rally blame Moto Guzzi for that one can I?
@@brentharrington9235 I absolutely love the bike. On road and off road.. And a mile muncher. She will rise from the ashes 🙏💪
@@buckymoto1784 well if you got no dealers on your island...maybe need to make a different choice.
I had a v85tt loved it, lack of main dealer interest and several totally avoidable faults later , I sold it. Piaggio group will gladly take your cash, but then you are on your own !
Agree, I absolutely love mine.. Does anything I want it too. But I see far too many horror stories when parts need ordered
@@buckymoto1784 Bought a Suzuki V Strom 800DE , not as charismatic but it will not break!
@@buckymoto1784 And they don't honour extended warranties either!
Have you hooked up a code reader to see what errors are showing?
Yes that's the code I flashed up on the video.
Ive seen a few reports of difficult cold starts progressing to lack of throttle response and unwilling to rev and from memory a few have been traced to a problem wirh the crank angle sensor, which sits in behind the front alternator cover. The clearance on the sensor gradually goes out of tolerance which means the ecu cant accurately calculate engine timing , so it wont start / idle properly. Engine heats up, things expand and the sensor starts working for a while. But eventually, it craps out. Ive no idea if thats what is happening with yours but the symptoms sound familiar.
Yep, I've heard the same thing. Would recommend doing some research on this.
Have you tried switching back to stock map? I think the lambda sensor is disabled with the new map, therefore reinstating this gives closed loop feedback to the ecu and it will see its running very lean (probably due to oil temp sensor) and may richen mixture. Worth a try. Not a permanent fix but may let you tour.
Last night I returned the bike to stock. Old catalytic converter and standard map. It made it worse as now the throttle no longer does anything and the bike sits at 2100 rpm all the time...
That sounds like a weak mixture. As you say it could be a temperature sensor or an air leak from an intake pipe. Good luck with it.
Somone else has suggested the metal clips around the intake on the backside of the cylinders istn tight enough and needs changed to a proper jubilee clip. They said air was leaking in.
You can try with engine starter spray in that area. @@buckymoto1784
Have you tried disconnecting the battery? Disconnect it, turn the key on for a minute, key of, reconnect the battery and see what happens
Already tried this also... Thanks for commenting and giving ideas. I might not have tried something that someone might suggest
Have you pulled the spark plugs? May have gotten fouled if it was over fueling and causing the hard start at cold
Its not the plugs... They have been checked..All wiring plugs have ben taken apart and cleaned and oiled and put back together also. to eliminate corroded wiring
Mcrums still covering the warranty, and if it's out of warranty, im sure they would have the knowledge, hope you get sorted, seen you at the nw
McCrum and I dont se eye too eye.. He told me that if my bike is on the bike rack and 10 of his customers come in behind me, my bike will be taken off the stand and the others fixed in front of me.. if another 10 of his customers come in my bike will go to the back of the queue. All because I bought my bike on the mainland. This stance of his is totally ILLEAGAL. from a consumer standpoint. Hence why I will NEVER darken his doors no matter how desperate I was...
@@buckymoto1784 i understand 👍👍
There's no consumer duty involved there. A customer is a customer. I bought a bike (BMW) in England but live in Scotland, it should be serviced etc and dealt with like any customer as should yours. I'd avoid that garage too mate! 🤞🤞
@@hotdoug1000 I'm the same. I bought a golf in London and never have a local vw dealer in NI told me I'm back of the que..
Is it still under warranty?
No, Its 14mths out of Warranty
Doesn’t sound too bad. I would say a sensor issue - Throttle position sensor, air pressure sensor, oil pressure sensor etc. I’d start with a diagnostics test and go from there. Certainly not terminal 👍
Thanks for the tour !! Hope to see the NW one day ✌
Put some real pegs on it.
Already done, if you watch any of my Sperrins or Green Lane videos Ive got TKC80's fitted and SW Motec MX pegs
