What are Radio Waves?
Переглядів 2,5 тис.2 роки тому
Conceptualizing radio waves can be tricky for a lot of reasons. In this video, we explore the essence of what a radio wave is. We did not attempt to address the nuanced differences between various models of physics as this isn't a comparative analysis. Consequently, there are some details which will be saved for another time. In future videos, we will explore the math and science of how radio w...
Icom IC-7300 Settings for SSB Voice
Переглядів 79 тис.2 роки тому
Nothing terribly significant here for those that have been using this rig for a while, but it may be helpful for some new owners. This is a quick rundown of the voice (SSB) settings that I use to get on the air with the Icom IC-7300. I'm not attempting to teach you how to use the radio, or even set up the radio's physical connections; This is mostly about getting on the air with settings that w...
New Icom Time Adjustment Software - Check it out!!!
Переглядів 16 тис.2 роки тому
ICOM just (11/30/21) came out with a new piece of software. Now you can sync your radio's clock using a Windows or Android operating system. The manual states that this works for the Icom 705, 7100, 7300, 7600, 7610, 7850/51, and 9700. The ability to do this has existed through independently created scripts however, this is the first rollout from ICOM. This is version 1 of ST-4003W. *NOTE: In o...
Building a 2 meter Dipole Antenna (from a broom)
Переглядів 13 тис.2 роки тому
We built a 2m dipole antenna out of a broom handle, pvc and some other small pieces that we had laying around the house. Ham radio is such a wonderful hobby in part because simple builds like this are possible. No need for complicated and expensive builds... unless you want to! This amateur radio antenna's SWR turned out to be between 1.2 and 1.5 across the whole band, so not too bad.
Intro to Coax Cable Feedlines for Ham Radio
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
In this video we explore the basics of coax feedlines for beginners. Starting with the anatomy of a cable, we break down each component and briefly touch on their composition and purpose. Please note: I know that I use some oversimplifications - this isn't meant to be a comprehensive analysis, rather a quick start for someone new to the hobby. In a future video I'll give my recommendations of f...
Our First SOTA Activation - Baker Mountain
Переглядів 4542 роки тому
Our very first SOTA activation was at the summit of Baker Mountain in Saranac Lake, NY. As a part of the Adirondacks, Baker is not one of the taller mountains, but it is one of the steepest ascents for new hikers. KC3RPH, KC3RPJ, and AC3DS took on the challenge and made some surprisingly distant contacts for only operating on 5 watts.

What is the DRX-1518 coaxial cable? I like it because the connector can be removed for cable easy cable routing ... thanks
I am so disappointed about the 10 second over!!!! Just kidding :) Thank you very much for this nice Video! It helped me a lot :) 73!
It's cool to see young ones getting into the hobby
When you use the tune function or check the SWR the radio defaults to a low power CW signal. That is why you don't find a difference between RTTY and SSB when you tune. You also don't have to reduce power because the radio does it anyway. Great videoand very helpful for people that are new to the hobby.
This guy buys a 7300 for about a thousand dollars and seems to imply that a dual band uhf and or vhf mobile would be a hardship.
I had my 7300 for a week and a half and got the portable antenna this Monday so just listening and getting advice, some nets sound echo-y so don’t know if my set is not quite right or does everyone hear the echo-y voice? I’ll discuss it with the club tomorrow.
Why did you paint the foam. GREAT JOB!!!!
Just ordered an Icom 7300 so this video was very helpful. I have an OCF end fed dipole that can work different bands, so this was very helpful. Liked and sub'd
Thank you so much. The manual is not very clear on how to read or do a see check. Thank you! WN8T
For my UHF radio, I restrict it to 5W so I use a Dometic fridge adaptor which has a cigarette lighter socket. I can provide 6A or 72W, not sure about RF noise as a fridge doesn’t care. I also have a linear power supply but it is a big heavy bastard. I bought it in 2000 bud never used it much, it doesn’t (apparently) have capacitor disease. I would like to put a cigarette lighter plug on my Icom 7300 (for DXing) but the wires are too thick to connect to the plug. I might just use banana plugs to join it knowing I won’t exceed about 20W.
I made a case following your instructions - turned out great! Thank you! I enjoy your videos.
Great honest review and just what I was looking for Drew, thank you for your efforts making this vid! De m0kty
Exceptional video Sir! I am a new ham with TYT9800 for local repeaters/nets...I am learning HF on a vintage $300 Icom725... when i study more and earn my GENERAL License im thing ICOM 7300 or Yaesu 710... thank you for posting such an informative video that a new rookie can relate too! Mike. 73s...KK7TPQ
getting a 7300 tomorrow, does the update include past updates, or do you have to install older updates first? Presumably the new radio will be up to date but I’ll check anyway.
I’m reminded of my HF CB days, some people had a “power mike” where they sound like something from Dr Who.
Salam kenal dari INDONESIA,YD1SGK 73
Very enjoyable video! Thanks for taking the time to make it.
👍💕🙏
Awesome help on my new 7300. Thank you for sharing. Do not stop sharing your knowledge and experience. 73
Pretty nice work
How do i find out my send receive frequencies
How do you know reliably what a good SWR is for whichever antenna you choose to use?
Nice attempt at a quick concise video. I do have a question: In the beginning, you told us to make sure the tuner is on, but then you turned it off right away. Can you please explain? Thanks.
Delighted to see this video. I use the same set up for sending quick data messages . With a magmount on the roof connected to the Baoufeng I have got 18 miles
how do you reset it to default?
I got an mfj switching and a triplite linear. I couldn't make up my mind and wanted to see for myself 😂
100% 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Great information for me being new to this type of electronics. Wired from 5v into the relay across the coil.
I started with an Astron RS-12(which still powers the Shack), and a Pyramid 30A, both linear. Both also found in the ewaste pile at work with some other ham gear that also came home.
Very useful, thank you. 🙏
Got my 7300 around 5 years ago. Still impressed. Icom hit it out of the park on this radio. Excellent video.
Great videos! What external power supply do you use for your IC-7300?
The UHF/VHF capability is why I purchased the 7100. I definitely will be getting a 7300/9700 combination in the future. The 9100 is cool but a bit dated. Since I already have most of that with the 7100... I will stick with that and use it mobile. Love how short and to the point these videos are!
What the porpose of terminal 2
This may be a case when the "non-official" imax b6 works better than the sanctioned by SKYRC. (Originally makers the B6). I have a SKYRC IMAX B6AC v2. They're user programming is different and I've been unable find a way to program it to charge a LiFe motorcycle battery (specifically a WEZE TX30L). I bought from SKYRC for their support. Will send a msg to them to see if they have a work-around. Thanks for posting & let me know if you might know how to program mine. TKS
Hi and thanks for the video. I followed instructions very closely. It looks fine, continuity is not an issue, and I used decent materials. However, I simply cannot SWR it, constantly reading VERY high and with a AT-5555 I get an S-HI warning almost as soon as I pick up the Mic - what am I doing wrong?
Great video, thank you
That had to be a fun but cold day! 😁
Your son has a slight English accent. I must be going crazy 🤣73 de Bob, M0BOB.
You can fit about 6 of those MFJ's inside that Astron. Some of us do not have that kind of spare space in our shacks, so there is that consideration,
I wonder why use the relay here, transistor itself will not be sufficient to switch on PTT? Thank for great video 🙂
This was great as usual. The only suggestion I have is with regard to ALC, Mic Gain and Compression. It would good to show the viewers how to properly set ALC at somewhere between 30-50% and then set compression so that ALC doesn't cut back on the transmit power.
Great job, I will put the screen of the radio to the other side of the box, not to the wall of the box, just to have more protection, But is great,
A nube question. First of all, a really great video together with your son! You said in the beginning that the contector had no contact with the poles. Do the poles, after the two wires has been screwed in, connection with the connector? Is the current fed through the connector in order to transmit through your antenna? I’m sorry if my question reveals lack of competence… I’m just eager to learn.❤️ Anyone in here is free to answer.
Damn can you make a short story long?
Connection break
Thx fine Video 👍 Greetings from JO31bf
So, was ‘load’ the cap with the insulator? I keep getting confused at that part…
Thanks a Lot Drew, from Jacob XE2YWI, 73s😊
Love that sweater! 🥰
