An unexpectedly long video about the cabooses on my SouthField Sub of the C&NW. It appears that when I start talking about CNW Cabooses, I can go on for hours. The CNW rostered bay window cabooses from Thrall and International Car Co. Thrall had one variant and ICC built 3 different variants for the CNW. The original BW cabooses were all delivered in CNW Caboose Red with roofwalks end ladders a...

C&NW SouthField Sub Layout Update 4
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
Not much in the way of updates on the layout actually, but I started working on another project and decided that I should do a video on it. So here is some more MOW equipment. I did not feel that we were properly equipped at the derailment at the Farley Candy Co., Last week!
C&NW SouthField Sub, Real Life Model Railroading
Переглядів 2,1 тис.Рік тому
I was making a video about operations on the HMJ turn, and all was going mostly well until one of the tank cars picked a switch rail and decided to make the work day longer for everyone. So I stopped the video and said "hell with it" and called it a day. That was about 2 weeks ago. Then I got to thinking, and came up with the idea of finishing this video. Hope you enjoy it. Real Life Model Rail...
C&NW SouthField Sub Railfanning
Переглядів 2,2 тис.Рік тому
I've been working on some locomotive projects lately and upgrading the sound in some. 1635 finally got a Scale Sound Systems speaker, see my previous videos for a comparison, it is rather epic. 4406 also got a SSS speaker and a lot of prototype operation tuning with JMRI. Working on a couple other units and figured I'd catch some railfanning on my lunch break.

I love u
quite a layout!
Thank you very much!
Geez... that looks like a very big layout. I was wondering if you have any videos of your trains running around the layout
Thanks, its not terribly big but it does fill the whole basement. I do have a couple of videos where trains are running, I know most of my stuff is about building something, but there are some trains running!
Love the concept!
Thank you kindly.
Great work on the layout.
Thank you!
any cnw alco?
Actually working on a CNW Alco RS32 right now!
what number? i made the 405 rs36@@CNW1025
@@ufolive1 I got the Atlas 4240, RS32
Awesome layout! is this HO or N scale?
Thank you, this is HO Scale.
Nice layout bud
Thank you kindly
Great Video . I'm glad that you finally got to do a layout update because I Love your Way inspires me to get back to my garage and do more work now that it's starting to get cooler in California.
Thank you. Its still very spring like here in Chicago but I am taking that opportunity to do some capital improvement projects on the layout. Soon though it will be full indoor weather, time to dig deep into the MRR workshop! Great time of year isn't it?
Next time I am up in Chicago, will check out the museum.
Looks like a norman rockwell painting
I'm guessing you mean one of the shots of the building? Thank you.
@@CNW1025 sorry, the opening scene. Amazing.
@@daverobinson6110 Oh wow ok, thank you. Very proud of that scene
Great video. I need to get back over to IRM it has been awhile. Love the modification to the plan drawers. I need to find some of those. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Yeah it was one of those moments where just as I was about to move it to the scrap pile, the Cheap and Nothing Wasted mentality kicked in!
Nice update. Thanks for volunteering at archives too!
It's more than a pleasure. Wish I lived closer I'd spend more time there.
I love say your layout looking awesome buddy cnw is awesome
Thank you!
@@CNW1025 your welcome man
Great update! Thx
Thank you kindly!
😉🚂🙂🚞🚞
Thank you!
Yikes, this is mighty good wok.
Thank you kindly!
Just found your videos. Love your layout and set up. Makes me remember when I was in my early teens and I used to dabble in trains. Lol. Makes me want to max out a couple credit cards and get back into the hobby. 🤔
Thank you! Maxing out cards is optional, but getting back into the hobby is always a great idea. I had about 10 years off and was very glad I got back into it.
Thanks for the tour, inspirational and thought provoking.
Thank you kindly.
FYI Walthers "Lake" series Great Northern diners are perfect for Cedar River, Walthers makes the full length Super Dome "Powder River" Walthers makes a 10-6 sleeper that is good for Lake Michigan and Broadway LTD makes Iowa River. Your layout is great!
Thanks for the detailed info, you clearly know your business cars. I like the video of the cars on your channel. That has to be the longest consist of a CNW business train that I have ever seen.
Una maqueta muy bonita, y grande, como para expresar muchas ideas, felicitaciones .
Scenery, accurately depicted of that area of the country the railroad traversed. I like the variable-speed running - like a real train. Vids with endlessly crawling trains become too much to take for the viewer after a short while.
Thank you for the compliments!
Very well done 👍 . Is it possible to see this in person?
Couldn't help but realize the jug of beer you seem to keep showing of lol
Its not intentional! Its just part of the thinking process so to say!
Beautiful Selection of Engines.
Thank you kindly
Great Therapy Take your Time.
Well Said and Done.I was the Same way for My wife’s And My Layouts.
Thanks!
"We're gonna stop the train before Rockdale. Closest is... the Harris Mill Junction. Contact the railroad, tell them to make out like it's a routine emergency inspection. And have Bronsky bring his men up in choppers from the south. Get all the passengers off the train, and I don't want any slip-ups." I actually own bits from the locomotive crash at the end of the film, including from the mirror and pillar it goes through, and the fake EMD builder's plate from the mockup locomotive. You have a beautiful railroad!
Well in 10 minutes you're gonna have 200 tons of locomotive smashing through central station on its way to Marshall Fields! Well done Sir, I don't think I've ever heard anyone besides me quote that movie before. And that is amazing that you have memorabilia from the movie! Where you there when it was filmed? We had to get Mary Lou, she's our date for the party. Come on conductor, lets get this show on then track, oh I beg your pardon...
@@CNW1025 C'mon, c'mon, get back will ya? You guys are just totally uncontrollable, you know that?!? I was not there for the filming, but I was at the time trying to figure out how to start a career in the film industry, so I was making friends at the studios and was sometimes invited to drop by for a visit. I became friends with one of the art directors at 20th Century Fox in 1977 and he invited me down to the studio and toured me through the train car sets, which were sourced from actual Budd and Pullman cars. I got to lay down in Jill Clayburgh's roomette bunk where she and Gene Wilder had their love scene. I got to go through the lounge/bar and got one of the dinner menus. Sadly, some of the items I got were stolen years ago. It's one of my top ten favorites.
@@CNW1025 Your attention please. May I have your attention please. You are requested to walk to the nearest exit as quickly as possible. Please do not run. Walk as quickly as possible to the nearest exit. People waiting for the arrival of the Silver Streak on Track 5 are requested to vacate that area immediately.

Excellent layout !! Congratulations

This is great, love the cab view ride idea. 👍👍👍 very nice layout
Thank you very much!
You've got a Kill A Watt.
Nice catch! Gotta measure the amperage draw of my lighting system!
@@CNW1025 I know what a Kill A Watt looks like because I have an identical unit. **LOL**
Great video! Nice layout! How did you make your “name plates” on your facia?
Thank you! Those are printed and mounted on .040 styrene. My dad is in the graphics business so that helps a lot with this kind of stuff!
Thanks for the update!
Neat update.
Thanks!
Great update. Got more coming up?
Its still winter-ish here so yes should have more before the weather gets good enough to start outdoor projects...thanks for watching
What a great interpretation of that picture. It’s going to look as nice as a shore lunch in July.
Thanks! Looking forward to some July weather here
Nice planning…lots of work ahead
That's for sure! Its a whole second layout!
Sounds like a good plan! Keep those updates coming, following along with your build. Thanks! - Paul
Likewise with your build. Nice to see more benchwork on your layout being completed.
VERY NICE!!!! Looking forward to more updates.
Thank you very much
Yes indeed. You are going to have some cool operations. Looks like you got a good plan, keep the video updates coming. Was that a mug of beer I saw? Little model railroading and some beer, nothing wrong with that. LOL. Are you in Illinois or Nebraska?
Hehe either that or apple juice depending on the audience I guess...I'm in Illinois. Thanks
👍 😊
Thanks for watching!
The progress is coming out nicely 😊
Thank you!
Love Tamiya paint!!
It is really great stuff. I just started using it a few years ago and wish I tried it earlier.
@@CNW1025 Well, we know now :) another great add to the workshop is a miter shear (B09X2JX3C8) and a plastic nibbler (B0002KRACO). This miter shear is probably accruate within 3 or 4 degrees but super fast and just as close as I can get by hand! Nibbler is MUCH faster and safer than scribing plastic...
What a great layout. Thanks for sharing! I had (and I stress had) a duck under into my layout. As I got older it had to go. It has been replaced with a take out bridge. Just something to consider.
Yes yes I do realize that. It is a bit of a pain and time will tell! But with the new chair that I got for the lower level, I can actually use it to roll under the main level and that is a huge bonus. Thank you for the compliments!
Looks like this will be fun!I I can identify with your planning process. I admire the guys who can generate a precise plan and then execute it, but my favorite planning tool is a couple pieces of Atlas flex track. You are generating some neat locations down there. I, too, have had to cut up a building or two to get around the physical structure of my layout room. My flour mill is constructed around an electrical conduit :-)
Thank you for the compliments. Its the way my brain likes to work I guess and it works for me!
Thanks for the tour! This is a great project, and looking forward to seeing it grow! - Paul
Likewise with your layout!
This is an awesome project. Like the interchange idea, with idea of changing out the rolling stock. Will that include motive power too? You have been busy, thanks for sharing.
Motive power is one of those things I just can't bring myself to remove from the layout! There will be some storage by the roundhouse but like cabooses, I just like as many of them as possible and all visible!
have you model cattle pins before? And if so do you have any video showing that?
No Sir I have not an opportunity for that yet. Going to either find a laser kit or just scratch build out of lumber. Most of the buildings in Smithwick are planned to be wood kits for more of the old town look.
@@CNW1025 Thank you on the answer do you have somewhere it shows your farm areas of the layout cuz I'm very impressed on the little I get to see you definitely are inspiring one of these days I'll post a video of what I've done Thank you so much for the answer and happy modeling
@@joshuatoro8977 Glad to help! If you take a look at my Layout tour 1, that one does a walk around the whole layout. I don't have an actual full farm scene, at least not one that is completed yet, but it is in the works.
