Be Better Prepared with Dave Riches
United Kingdom
Приєднався 7 лют 2010
I was a British soldier for 38 years, both regular and reserve, served all over the world and climbed Mt Whitney and Kilimanjaro, and I have noticed that there are many channels showing Bushcraft and urban prep etc, but often they omit important information.
Sometimes the advice given is actually impractical, which you would only discover when you actually have a go yourself, and by then its too late.
however, Bushcraft, both woodland and urban, is a key feature of my channel, so if you are a believer in:
'Take photos, leave footprints'
This channel is for you.

Super easy Prusik, cook up some food, and some words on food safety.
Переглядів 252Рік тому
I needed to answer a question on the Prusik, basically just needed to make it easier to see. Some lunch later, and then a brief chat on how our food is trustworthy but some countries it isn't. some countries you could have a cow eat a tapeworm egg and eventually it gets into the flesh, which we eat. yuk.
Practising with my arrows. Setup in the forest. Never go shooting without a backstop.

Needed to get some time with my bow. You must stay safe, can't have arrows flying around. Never take a chance and just shoot arrows anywhere.
When is a knot, not a knot. ?

Make better shavings for tinder or to drop a spark onto. Every time.

I am not very good at using my knife to get the fine shavings sometimes needed to get a fire going, so is there an alternative, _ yes, it weighs nothing, takes up no room, but is almost magical, and so easy,.

Excellent work! Love your video! This is perfect in a survival situation!
I seen something like this in an old book but the illustration was not good enough for me to understand how the bottom supports worked. Thank you for showing how it is dune. In the book it was called a "pochers cabin". I wish i could remember the name of the book, but it has been a lest 30 years ago.
Excellent!
Those extra pegs is fantastic idea
well done
Hey new subscriber here..great video mate i made something similar to this..awesome set up mate nice one..catch you on the next one buddy😊..benny
Great video thank you for the information.
Fantastic video bro! Thank you
Should your "string" be dyneema or bankliine? Once encircling log ends, can it take sidewise force? Of course, your "fiddling" testing will tell you...
Pretty good!
That was well done, showing it's simple and doable. Encouraging, not puffing. Seen this configuration before, but you've added a few new tips! I like the order of your demonstration - do, then explain. You might mix in some super close ups as B roll for the final video. Subscribed.
A pencil sharpener! Brilliant! Well done brother.
Well done. I’m always impressed when someone thinks outside the box”Box”. Look forward to more of your ideas.
Thank you very much!
Cool. I learned how to tie a clove hitch in the Scouts, but I like your method better.
Lose the "intro music" please.
Agreed. Or if you really want intro music, please can we have something calming?
First prepper I have heard the truth from. "fiddle around a bit". Those few words speak so many volumes, it is what we do when we are prepping, bushcrafting or just FIDDLING AROUND IN THE WOODS!! ;>)
Great channel subd😍
Nice setup. Have fun stay safe.
What size tarp?
3m x 3m
What the Ferk are you on about mate ..? I thought all the looney preppers live in Donald Trump’s basement 😂
Useful vid. 😊 Thank you
You sound proper local to me Dave, what woods do you do your bushcraft in? Also do you have a contact email for yourself?
Great video, very simple. Is the ground sheet and shelter all in one tarp ?
Yes, all one piece, watch the last bit when I do it from the floor. 😊
Best shelter I seen yet I just got DD 3.5x3.5 so going to try that on my 1st camp cheers buddy good vid easy to follow for newbie too
Hope you enjoy
Everyone is on their cell phones. Nobody is seeing what's going on.
Hello Dave, thanks for uploading, just a quick question, what size tarp is it?
Thanks for watching. 3m x 3m.
Thanks for watching. 3m x 3m
@@daveriches99 briliant, thank you.
Well done Mr. Riches, I am going to incorporate your tarp lesson into my camping skill set, thank you for your time and efforts creating and posting these videos.
Thank you so much
Lovely tip ❤
Great idea for a simple tarp setup Dave. Like the idea of the pegs keeping the rain out too. In bushcraft, as in life, the simple ideas often work the best. Thanks for the video.
Brilliant Dave, some interesting ideas for a bed. Cheers.
Great videos on your channel - enjoying watching them from the deep dark woods near Toronto, Canada. Cheers, Simon
Glad you enjoy it!
Good job
This man of God, basically formed a bed with no knots. That’s why, every day I look at different people and the way they do things. I’m really starting to understand when people say, don’t be so quick to buy things that people are selling bush crafting. All he used was para. My people parish for the lack of knowledge. You take the 💵, I’ll take the knowledge.
Thank you so much for your kind comment.
Bingo! The best way to be stealthy is to blend in to your environment. "Stealthy" does not mean dressing in camo gear or like a Special Forces operative everywhere you go. Great, simple set up, too.
Stealth is to fool other people not fool yourself.
Genius. ✊🍷🎩🎩🎩 thanks.
Thank you
Thank you
Grandpa kudos to you teaching your granddaughter basic survivor skills, that will stay with her a life time. What a great relationship!
NICE setup...did we see jungle knot cordage attached to your tarp too? Also have to totally agree with the 'grey man' approach to your infiltration. Many thanks for sharing your time out. Stay well, stay safe..... Helen with Kat and Terri with Robyn
Thank you. Yes, jungle knots, very handy. 👍
Thank you, and yes, jungle knots.
Good video Dave, great looking stove. Gerome.
He does it better than the other 145 dudes who also needed their egos boosted.
I think, if I wanted to be stealthy, I would not do a glorified plow point with the added encumbrance of a pole in the middle. I would do a far lower tarp shelters. Good options can be find here: ua-cam.com/video/4W76LyJdNYU/v-deo.html

Cheers mate, nice counterintuitive points about blending in in plain sight. Nice easy set up too, glad I stumbled on it. Good luck with the channel, subscribed 🇬🇧🇦🇺 ✌🏻
Brilliant! Enjoy your videos, sir. Watching from Toronto, Canada.
Thank you for watching.
Love it! Primitive skills using physics! A blanket or tarp stretcher might give another idea for the bed. Still would need the support cross rods
Thanks for the comment. I saved my tarp for the rain cover. It rains a lot here. 👍
U should have included a walk around !
Whats the weight of all that?
The smaller one - not much. The bigger one is more for vehicle transport, so a fishing trip etc.
Another no knot video using knots... meh
Making me hungry now Dave !
I like the dark gray color of the tarp excellent at night also dawn and dusk ? The problem with camouflage patterns only work in certain terrain or environments ? Where as neutral colors can be more adaptable across a wider range of environments ? ? Eg Timber Wolf ?
Thank you for commenting. Of course a tarp still looks like a square of dullness, unless you add some texture, so its not perfect. I can feel a video coming on to illustrate texture.
