Ukrainian folk singing - presentation - Capital Ukrainian Festival
A rich part of Ukraine’s musical heritage is its ensemble singing which was often done in multi-part harmony and was a mainstay of traditional village music for centuries. In the 20th century many ethnographers and folklorists sought to gather and preserve these songs before they disappeared. Many also brought back authentic ensemble singing by popularizing it through public performances and festivals. The ensemble Bozhychi was one of the key pioneers in this movement. As a member of Bozhychi, Marichka Marczyk collected, studied, and performed these beautiful folk songs. Now she has launched a comprehensive online archive of folk songs (Folk songs of Ukraine) from all over Ukraine, and shares her vast knowledge of Ukrainian polyphonic singing with the public. #OCUF2022

Ceramics - workshop - Capital Ukrainian Festival - 2021
Переглядів 1812 роки тому
Handmade ceramics have been a beautiful part of Ukrainian culture since time immemorial. Ceramicists ("honchari") created not only utilitarian objects, but also whimsical instruments and toys for children. The knowledge of these ceramic toys and instruments was almost lost in the 20th century as with many other aspects of folk life. Fedir Kurkchi's work in studying, collecting, and creating the...

Through the touch of the artist’s hand, the natural materials that are used, and the colossal power of the hundreds of hours of meditation that go into its making, this energy accumulates and is transmitted into the final piece. Thanks to this great...

Can anyone share the proper method for cleaning a rushnyk? We have one that adorns our icon corner that we received from the Priest who presided over our wedding ceremony, but it has collected dust over the years and i do not want to damage the cloth so I am unsure of the proper way to clean such a treasured piece. Thank you, anyone who can help.

My instructor takes the wax off by putting a frying pan on low heat and takes a baby cloth diaper and rubs it on the pan once it’s heated. Warms up the cloth and then wipes off the wax.

Great video thank you. One thing that works really well to get the wax off is a heat gun. One you would use for embossing. One other thing that you should mention is that you can't eat the egg because the dye is toxic to eat. One other thing that I can't remember is the color order. Not able to go from blue to yellow then green you have to stick with color family's and if you change you have to vinegar bath the egg. Your strait lines are incredible teach that too because getting a strait line on a curved surface is incredibly difficult. Please make more videos like this.

I love how you just divide your egg and then decide what design you would like to write. It is a meditation, a piece of artwork. I have practiced for years using some wonderful instruction books. But I enjoy doing my own ideas more, even though they are not as good. You have shown me a deeper aspect to this wonderful art form.

Thank-you for the tutorial. I came across a book I bought 2nd hand over a decade ago titled "Ukrainian Easter Eggs & how we make them" while searching for a cookbook. I decided that now was a good time to finally attempt to learn how to do it and bought dies & kisky ( already had beeswax). Reading about the spirituality behind it only furthered my resolve. Watching you do it has helped a lot.
