How are the ticks on the deer there?
I have not killed a deer yet this year, so I have not been able to examine any myself yet. Just from walking through the woods, though I have had a crazy amount of ticks this year.
That is fun action! We had does being pushed around back on Nov 2nd. I have 3 bucks pushing a doe about 300yrds away. Right now, watch your rut action as I watch mine live!
Cool
I have a lot of white ash on my 25acre. Average 22 to 32 at chest height. Tall and clear. Will it be worth it for me to sell?
Are my comments getting deleted?
No
I think it is youtube.... the word sh-oo-t.
Kinda frustrating that us public land hunters will have to drive around trucks that could be hunting private. Especially when you can sit on private and pass deer
Don't pass on a deer that would make you happy. Regardless of your neighbors. If you are not happy with 4.5 on private, you'd better only take a 5.5 on public.
I think our lack of rain, and eager tag filler following EHD have shifted antler and age quality downward. Cant imagine what quality we would have if the corn piles went away. Good luck and keep sharing the grind.
Just had a good one show up so the Chase begins now!
Do you do any southern Illinois consulting?
I offer timber tax basis on larger parcels but that’s all I can really offer in IL
I’m all in on this technology working to find wounded deer.
That's awesome! I live and hunt in Ohio, may need you someday. Lol
Glad he was found before any meat loss. Did the broadhead hit the femoral on the left side?
Yes
So this is not an Ohio lottery tag, (from the state dnr) this is a county metro park hunt draw.
This is my first year hunting Ohio. I just moved here in January! I am super pumped to try to figure it out! Kicking my butt so far tho!
Yep, in my opinion, Ohio deer are way tougher than people give them credit for. Hope you get on one!

@@treestandforestry thanks man same to you! I live in the Dublin area, what area are you from?
Deer in the hills hard to hunt compared to farmland deer @treestandforestry

Or the flat floor in the back seat. Ford bragged about that floor when aluminum trucks rolled off the line.
Dang. I didn't think you baited.
This was on a friends property, I was simply filming him.
Thank you for the good video. We are looking to sell our timber. We recieved a random letter asking about helping us harvest our timber from 97 acres. It was previously thinned out 20 years ago. The man is offering to pay us straight up 25,000. Withba contract that allows them to finish up some time in 2026. Does this sound like a good opportunity for us or should we go another route?
Always get multiple bids to make sure.
Man, 120 acres with an owner that doesn't hunt, nor family, nor leased, is super rare here in Ohio. My family has permission on a farm to hunt, mostly pasture and crops. Trees around the steep hillsides. The owners family bowhunts, we get to drive it out fir gun szn. Owner wants deer killed due to crop damage.
Excellent video. Echos the same recommendations that I provide to my clients as well as my observations of the current market. The market for standing timber does not always follow the lumber market. Case in point, winter of 21/22 when lumber and logs were very inflated, most buyers had already purchased 18 months of standing inventory.
White oak is up in Tennessee. My property is being cut as week speak. Select cut…
Ohio hunting is my favorite I swear
Where at???
The oak and walnut markets are flooded right now and have been a long time. You dont know what your talking about
It might be good there but the timber market in Arkansas is crap. For sure if you consider inflation and all that.
As in all my videos, my advice is for my area (OH) and generally from PA to MO. Markets down south are very different from the mid west.
Its not always about the kill. Its about getting out in Gods beautiful country and enjoying life! So peaceful!!!!
Great information Madison, really happy with how my piece is looking after cutting.
How much would I pay you on a top dollar offer or bid?
How's it going I have 22 acres in Georgia how would find out how much I can get for the timber?
If possible, I would recommend finding a consulting Forester in your area. If you’re unable to find a Consulting Forester at a minimum, get three buyers local to your area out to look at the Timber. The main thing is that they are all bidding on the same trees, so either Mark them yourself or have one of the buyers mark them and have the other two bid on only those trees.
I will say the common practices may be different in your area, and if it is 22 acres of pines, I would suspect that the approach would be different.
ok thank you
Thank you for your videos. They helped me decide on hiring a forester to manage the cut on my land last winter. My forester sent out to 15 different buyers. 6 replied with offers. The one I would’ve gone with prior to consulting with the forester gave the lowest big that was less than half of the top two bids. The only thing I would add is if they are cutting whole length they’ll make bigger roads. Those roads will add a lot to the number of trees taken. I now have a few miles of roads on my property but, I did lose more trees in areas I didn’t need roads. The end result was more money in my pocket. I’ve already seen an improvement in wildlife sightings. Things are coming together.
Glad to hear it went well!
Any hope for red oak prices to rebound?..got a bunch in upper Michigan
They have come up a little bit from this summer, but red oak prices in general stay pretty flat typically. There was that crazy spike for Covid but it is about the same as pre-Covid now and I do not see any dramatic changes coming.
Yeah well I guess it's where you live cause in PA I couldn't get two mills even interested in 5 logs no knots that were over 24 inches and 12'6" long the guy from the mill said get them here and we will buy them but not worth messing with to come get them
do you know of any reputable consultants in California? Got some redwoods for sale.
Unfortunately I do not. I work primarily in the mid west
11:40 I would not be able to pass up shorty or that 3 yr old. 12:10 ol song dog sneaking through. NCO area. I didn't have any hard horn bucks at last card pull. I saw 1 without velvet on my drive to work yesterday, basket 8. Farmers are pulling beans off in my 1/4 mile radius. Majority is corn tho.
13:20 yeah, they are still on summer range. Give them that first weekend to pickup all the hunters scent and they'll switch to fall safe ranges.
Keep after them! You will find a good one.
I’m gonna keep spreading seed I guess until November if that’s what it takes lol
🤣
@@treestandforestry chance of rain next week! Hopefully your place is too!
Yep, getting more rye out this weekend
He seems to like that brush pile. Now if we could get some grouse back in Ohio.
If only there was a song about this.
Young to middle age oaks are a priority. White oak prices are driven up as whiskey barrels are a one time use.
Awesome footage of the buck rubbing and scraping!
What Missouri county was that timber in?
Henry
One man band what to hell

Looking forward to October
Taxation differs between selling timber standing and selling on a % split. Although I’ve seen a lot of buyers not even provide a 1099… weird stuff :)
Some useful info but let's get down to it, loggers and consultant foresters are drivin by cutting the most valuable trees, high grading timber stands. Leaving the landowner with trees that have minimal value now or in the future! Just do some homework and find some one honest and reputable! There's a few left
We just need some rain now lol
I have heard you talk about diameter limit cutting a few times. Diameter limit cutting is high grading by most definitions. Silviculturally speaking there’s not a lot wrong with high grading/dia limit cutting so long as you have adequate regeneration potential or advanced regen. Managing for white tails can be “bad forestry/silvics” but it doesn’t have too. You can make a lot of browse in short order by harvesting… but if your not releasing and or regenerating quality trees your not practicing sound Forestry. Not saying you’re doing that, just saying. I think a person can cut whatever merchantable trees they want, so long as you cut the junk trees out as well. Good for deer and the timber resource. There is a happy medium, especially if you utilize NRCS cost share to fund TSI work. Never forget that patch cuts have their place for deer and timber…. Just as long as one can tolerate the visual…. So easy to just wack/stack and meet both resource needs :)
I appreciate the comment. First off when I discuss diameter limit cutting, it is simply the easiest place to begin pointing people to. When I’m actually marking timber, a certain diameter is simply a starting point. I am always balancing as much as absolutely possible between taking the good as well as the bad. My goal is always to leverage good timber on a project to get the buyers to harvest the lower grade timber. Unfortunately the timber market is in a place where low grade timber at times can cost the logger money to even cut depending on location which makes it extremely difficult to get it cut. In certain markets across the Midwest people are literally only cutting white oak and walnut and leaving everything else. That makes me sick. That being said, I have probably not stressed enough that having timber cut is simply not one and done. There is work on the back end In most cases for the land owner to do, between prescribed burning and further TSI. I happen to be working on several videos currently on this very subject and will be releasing them soon!
Thanks for all the information! I just filled out the form on your site to have a timber basis done on my newly acquired 65 acres in Michigan.
Awesome thanks for the tips for my upcoming harvest 18" at breast height. My logger mentioned this but after watching your videos I was able to explain to him that he better only measure at breast height and he then knew he couldn't pull a fast one on me. Thanks to you. 👍
I had an October 21st morning a couple years ago that had all sorts of buck activity. It was pretty much non-stop the first 3 hours, and not one buck walked past one of my SD trail cameras on my property. My best friend slept in that morning, because his cellular cameras hadn't been showing much activity. If you're seeing it on a cellular camera, you already missed it in my opinion. Nothing beats time in a stand. Good luck to everyone this coming season!
I couldn’t tell if that was a bobcat or just a stray cat. Great video as well
Haha just our house cat on the prowl

I am planning to buy only two acres of land in georgia. The will have large trees 🌳 on it. The only reason why I want the trees removed because I want to Install a road and space where I can put my Rv and my food. Is it possible if I can still sell the trees that been cut down?
Unlikely. Most buyers require 10 acres or more
