Excellent video. Echos the same recommendations that I provide to my clients as well as my observations of the current market. The market for standing timber does not always follow the lumber market. Case in point, winter of 21/22 when lumber and logs were very inflated, most buyers had already purchased 18 months of standing inventory.
White oak is hot due to whiskey barrels. I'm from mid Ohio and only have 3 acres of woods. My loggers finished a few days ago. 24 cherry 5 pin-oak and 1 ash were cut. Majority were blow-downs from the wind storm June 2021. 15 blow downs were ontop of each other and no deer could travel through. This logging was more of a "favor" they could have easily stayed at their walnut/oak jobs and make 10x the money in the same time at my place. I've got deer travel through my place now and a hen turkey has a nest on place!
To clarify, the numbers listed were stumps or rootballs. A grand total of 105 sections were staged on the road side for straight trucks to be loaded. Sawmill bid less than $3k for it. Blocking isn't worth much. I got 25% of the bid, a tree removed that was leaning towards the garage and main path for access along with a base area for clover or food plot.
Any chance you work down in Clay County Kentucky? Ive got 18 acres i want selectively logged and you seem like a good person I'd like to work with you if possible.

How come you didn't mention cedar in any of those categories? Do you have cedar in Ohio? Cedar prices are pretty good up here in Ontario.
Correct, we have virtually no cedar in Ohio and no market for it.

If not, do you have anyone in the area you could recommend?
Unfortunately I don’t work that far south and don’t really have any connections.
@@treestandforestryare u connected to Texas … I have 5 acres
I’m in Washington State. Have Old Grown Timber to Sell. I’ve learned and appreciate info you share! Travel much? lol?
It might be good there but the timber market in Arkansas is crap. For sure if you consider inflation and all that.
As in all my videos, my advice is for my area (OH) and generally from PA to MO. Markets down south are very different from the mid west.
The oak and walnut markets are flooded right now and have been a long time. You dont know what your talking about
