    2013 Fiat 500 Lounge with the same exact issue here. I haven't pulled the BCM out yet, but my mech says replacing it is nearly impossible because they are hard to find. I'm not above pulling it out myself, but I have no experience soldering. Could you explain what needs to be done so I can have a professional repair the headlight relays?

    I am in the middle of the same problem. It started with the loss of all keys which required a tow to the dealership, new keys (2 months on backorder), programming, and new BCM (oddly didn't have to order, they had it in stock) However, it seems really odd that they require a new BCM when they already require the VIN number to order the key. As if they can't match keys to my BCM and don't know what kind of signal my car requires? They're the ones that built it! Now that the dealership has replaced the keys, programmed the keys, replaced and configured the new BCM...Surprise! Now the PCM isn't communicating with the new BCM. Of course the dealership wants to just replace the PCM to the tune of $800+ and a 45+ day backorder without even checking the wiring I think I'm just going to tow it back home and fix it myself. If it's the PCM there's no reason not to try myself or send it to Board Doctors if I have to Fiat and the dealerships have quite a racket going

      Dealers are part changers, not fixers. Any dealer in the USA will diagnose the problem to their best knowledge but will not splice a simple wire or repair a cracked solder joint in a bcm. Instead, they replace the whole harness or module it's a liability issue. The dealer knows nothing about how the car is built they are just sellers with mechanics and technicians that they hire. Any complicated issue they have access to manufacturers details and their technicians online or by phone. A local mechanic will splice a wire to a headlight that went bad from rubbing against the frame, a dealer will change that whole harness instead. 100 compared to 1000 plus. But if that wire burns and catches fire. Dealer is covered as they never spliced it. Hope that makes sense as to why dealers are not allowed to fix any issues unless they are using manufacturers' whole parts right down to the last connector and module.

      Bcm in stock because they have so many issues with internal relays and dealer changes the whole bcm instead of opening bcm and solder new $5 relay in. Part changer, not a fixer, that's why they have tons of bcm in stock.

    So first off thanks for the video! Yours and another video, along with my own trial and error fixed my problem. Things to add (I have a 2012 Fiat 500 sport) 1. There are 3 T30 screws, not 2. I don't believe you ever corrected that. However, as you pointed out in the second video, there are 2 connectors in back of the BCM, not one. Putting that information in the first video (or making them all one video would save some headache. Also, mine has a pedal plate that I had to remove to be able to reach my hand behind the BCM and unclip the connectors. 2. Same with removing the cover to the BCM. You end the second video with all you have to do is pop those little tabs on the side, but important information in the third is required to remove it. Popping the clips next to the connectors, should be added to that video. 3. Also, I went ahead and replaced my relays. In the other video it says you have to remove the two circuit boards. There is a waaaay easier way. Simply remove the connector underneath the relays and it will allow you to get to the solder points and replace them. I had to heat my gun to over 400 degrees to desolder those relays points, but was finally able to get them off. Hope this helps the next person!

    Attempting to do this on 2013 Fiat Lounge. Up to the point of removing the BCM everything was spot on. Did find a third T30 up in a very tight location in the top right. After that, I found that the plastic BCM case was held into the metal bracket by pressure of the bracket on the lower right side. Popped that loose with a screw driver. That's where I'm hung up now. Not sure if the Lounge is set up different than the Pop but I don't seem to have any wiggle room to pull the BCM out. I've got the steering gear as mentioned on the top left and I've also got an airbag on the lower front. Don't want to break things. Is there anyone who can guide me through removal from this point? TIA

    • @majurbludd
      @majurbludd 4 роки тому

      Ok just got it out. The module needs to be pushed out the back in order for the top bolt holes/tabs to clear. When you try to push it out the back the harness will be in the way. Move the harness towards the driver around the bracket. It should be just enough room.. Pull on the metal tab on the bracket. Then you will have to play around with the bcm to get it to clear, and be able to be removed from the front of the metal bracket. You must pull on the metal tab during all of this finagling. Take your time. Done break anything. Its a real pain. Your hands will get scrapped up. I sat laying across the passenger and driver side to get the right angle to do all of this.

      I ordered the relays from an electrical supply business. I quick google search and you will find the relays, shipped from Chicago. • @jamminjesus
      @jamminjesus 4 роки тому

      majurbludd I took my dremel and carefully demolished the old relays from the top so I had pin stumps coming through the board. Then I took 8 x 2.5” pieces of 22awg wire and soldered them to the terminals on the board and then to the pins on the relays. I then put some double stick tape on the top of each relays and stuck them to the surrounding vacant space on the board pins facing up. Problem solved! Thankfully no need to separate the two boards and cut and solder the 60 barbed pins. This was much easier... not pretty but nobody can see it anyway... long as it works. Also if they ever go bad again they will be much easier to replace the second time around.

Just the headlights wont turn off. Any suggestions on how I can fix the issue without it costing me a fortune. Radoslav Geci I am not sure what the white relays do but the black relays are definitely the headlights. To determine what the white relays are or to at least rule them out as your wiper relays. You can plug the module into the car and hold a mechanic stethoscope to the relay with the wipers turned on and listen for clicking. The white relays probably are the wipers but that is how I would check to be sure.

Right now, it's sitting outside the house in a snowstorm, completely dead, but with $600 worth of new snow tires. The skills you used to deal with the battery drain are commendable - and completely beyond my own talents. I'm ready to accept that I'll need to keep the battery going with some kind of external charging device from now on. It's still good to know that it's not some obvious battery issue that I'm just not catching. I'll carry a compact jump battery in the glove compartment as well.

      I progressed through the logical culprits and least expensive solutions before I touched the BCM. Mainly, cleaning Corrosion off of battery ground cable at body/transmission attaching points. I also looked for corrosion at back of under hood fuse block, but didn't find any. Other items that can drain the Fiat 500 battery: 1) Cabin lights can overheat/melt causing circuit to remain closed after lights go out. Solution: switch the cabin lights on and off to ensure proper function - Leave them in the off position (so they don't turn on when opening doors) to rule them out. 2) Leaving doors unlocked leaves circuits energized. Solution: Always lock doors when not in use. 3) Boot wiring bundle can become brittle. Solution: pull back rubber sheath, inspect, repair as necessary (not required in my case). 4) Blown bulbs can cause power drain. Solution: Replace any blown bulbs.

      Mine was soldered together, but I didn't pull mine apart. I was able to fit my iron in between the two boards to get at 2 joints on the fuse side of the board. I flipped the board (headlight relays facing down) and was able to get 2 joints from between the board and the large black connector socket. Fortunately, that was enough to fix my problem because I didn't want to go any deeper. Pulling the boards apart is the only way to get at the pins properly, though. You will need a solder sucker to do this: remove the solder from the 26-pin connector at the corner of the board, opposite the fuses and headlight relays. Reflow your joints, and then solder the 26-pin connector back on.

    • @robgreuling2671
      @robgreuling2671 5 років тому

      No, I'm sorry. I don't. Check fuses first..could be as easy as a sloppy seat. If that doesn't work, try the flick test on the wiper stalk to see if the wipers intermittently come on (if so, you will need to repair the stalk). If that doesn't produce anything, move down to the stalk wiring wiggle test, looking for same intermittent function. If that STILL doesn't reproduce your gripe, then turn on your wipers and tap the BCM while listening for the relay to 'tick' each time the wiper swipes. You'll need to repeat w/the cover off (BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH CIRCUITS or CIRCUITS TO ANYTHING ELSE..might be useful to have an assistant), follow the ticking sound, touching the relay to find the ticker. Hope that helps :)

      PT1 at approximately 3min/30sec covers it. You'll need a T-30 Torx bit to get the 2 screws that hold it in place. Once loose, you can reach in behind it (blindly) and feel the two connectors. IRC, you can reach the long side of the bottom connector easiest, then go after the top connector.
