Yes, when Im making a recovery I always test any existing similar item. Same when I'm looking for a farm macinery part. I usually just know the numbers anyway for common items. Its not just the Karat value of gold, it's whether copper is the primary alloy. Rose gold will read higher than white gold for example. I'll assume CW relic hunting. 🤠 Use the button that looks like a coil to toggle thru modes to Field 2 (windmill). Did you put on tthe screen protector with Labels? Then use the Settings button (gear) to toggle each. 1-Run Noise Cancel each time you change sites. 2- Read the manual on how to set Auto Ground balance etc and leave it on forever. 3-Volume, set it +/-. 4-Threshold Vol +/- = 0 leave it on 0 forever. 5-Target Tone = dP , greatest depth and it will work like a Tesoro. 6-Accept Reject = - 19 OK for now. 7- Recovery Speed = 5 good to start, adjust later. Now while on that hold down the Gear button and FE will come up...+/- to = 9 leave it forever. Tap the Gear button back to the beginning Noise Cancel. Tap pinpoint button to get out of Settings and prepare to detect. Then use -/+ to choose Sensitvity, try 22 and adjust to suit. The Horseshoe button turns digital All Metal on/off. Nox remembers all this when you turn it back on. Simply run the noise cancel when you get to your dig spot. Adjust sensitivity any time. Changing coils does not require any changes. Use 6" coil in trash or to save your arm.

Welcome. 😃 I will assume you are in the sea water. Target Tone=dp. GB = Auto. Volume = what you can hear; each brand of heaphones are different. Threshold = 0 silent. For other settings I need to know what type of metal you are looking for. Iron, like cannon balls? Non ferrous, like gold, brass, copper and silver. Also what size coil do you want to use?

Followup 2, I haven't heard an answer to my question, so I will assume you want non ferrous finds (no iron objects). Assume 11" coil I prefer the 6" coil. - Beach 2 mode under sea water. Try Beach 1 to test but it goes deeper on iron. - Reject all below 1 -Recovery Speed 4 or 5...then adjust when you test - Fe 9 to help reject iron - Sensitivity 22 unless you want to dig deep for maximum depth 28 - Noise Cancel. Run the auto noise cancel. Then manually adjust it up and down to see what goes deepest on a test target.

The best choice is use a 6" coil. That way there is less iron under the coil.

The Horseshoe button turns ON and OFF the All Metal Mode. If All Metal Mode is ON, iron objects ID= 0 to -19 will make a low tone. If OFF, no low tone sound will be made. So in your case use All Metal Mode set to OFF. Use the 6" coil. Good luck. 🍀

Hi, I see you are in CA and all your beaches have varying concentrations of black sand. Iron magnetite. Also you are often near electrical interference. These 2 things drive most detectors crazy. If you will send me your other settings: did you load the new update?, Mode (Beach 1 or 2), ground balance, threshold, tones, FE bias, recovery speed. Then I'll better understand what needs adjusting. In general for your beaches the 900 is picking up so much iron signal it has to be fine tuned for each beach. And you may have to dig false iron signals on good deep targets. (See the Fun With Jim videos) Without me knowing your settings heres things to try. For in the water use the 6" coil ( less black sand under the coil helps). 0 threshold. All metal, toggle as you go. Tones on DP. Run noise cancel with the coil submerged and against the sand. Then adjust sensitivity up/down while testing on a buried quarter underwater. Try Auto ground balance. Try FE settings at the lowest level first then work up. Now when these things are sorted, manually change the Noise Cancel up/ down to find your deepest target setting. Good Luck!

Hi, a few bits of info will help me give you the correct answer. 😀 This chatter would be normal behaviour on older single frequency detectors. The Equinox detectors all can run quietly with a few adjustments. Reply with these answers - is this your very first metal detector? 🙂 - list all of your settings on the Settings Ribbon as well the Sensitivity. - does the 6" coil do the same thing? - what is the beach in general ? Color of the sand? We'll get it running right. 👍

I havent heard back from you, but now see you are hunting the California beaches. So knowing that will help me get the settings you need to try.

Hi ,you still havent answered, so I'll give general answers re "beeping like mad in salt water". I assume you are in Beach 1 or 2 mode. Use Beach 2. - Do both coils 11" & 6" behave the same? If not the noisy one is possibly defective. - set ground balance on Auto, the manual shows how - set audio to DP tones - set Sensitivity to 20 then adjust up and down as needed. 22 is ideal. Note, it is normal for chatter to be bad in moving surf because the sand is in motion. - your sand has a lot of black sand (iron) in places. Load the new firmware update. Go into Fe Iron Bias and experiment with settings from low to high and see what works best in your mineralized sand. Good luck. - -

@@johnnyhiettgood evening, my coil does the same thing. I also have the 600 and is quieter than my 900. I run on beach2, and everything else pretty much as the machine comes.

OK. If you haven't loaded the new update from Minelab, you need to. It may fix your stability problem. They put some fixes in. There are some variables that need to be set in this order (1) turn on Auto Ground Balance Tracking (look up in manual) (2) Run Noise Cancel every time you start the machine! If you have loaded the new firmware update, hold the check mark button down and let it cycle a few times to find the best average Noise Cancel number (from -9 to 9) before releasing the button. If you walk around and noise starts back up, simply run Noise Cancel again. (3) Adjust your Sensitivity to match the level of noise you desire. Between 20 and 24 should run quiet. Remember, if you want depth you should run the Sensitivity as high as possible and ignore the noise. If you are in surfs edge where the sand is moving it will always make some noise. That's normal because the ground below the coil is stirred up.

I use live baby bluegill for all the big fish. 2-4" long. You can catch a bucket full on a tiny hook over at the marina boat ramp. 🍀🤠👍

Welp good luck fishing it! 🍀 This time of year I'd fish the shallows of Camp Kennedy for slab bluegill, the springs of Sunset for redeyes and hybrids and in the shade of Chimneyrock for slab bluegill and cats. I like the big BG under the 34 bridge if I'm on that end of the lake. But the gulf of Florida now is 78 degrees this morning. Big Snook are biting. Ky is too hot.

Although that could work in a pinch, it is not reccomended in general. These waterproof type electrical connections often have rubber or silicone O-rings or other parts that would be potentially damaged by petroleum jelly. One should refer to the manufacturers reccomendations . The best product to use is a very thin coating of pure Silicone dielectric grease. (Grease of any kind at the beach traps sand.) Like automotive spark plug boots use. Available at auto parts stores. Electronics often use connectors pre coated or packed with this grease. Outdoor 75 ohm coax connectors are an example. Also the submersible boat trailer lighting connectors on vehicles. Best of luck ! 🍀🏝

Great info to ask about! 😎 That is about the first thing in the video at the one minute mark. I list the important settings onscreen. Recovery Speed = 6 (on land I sometimes run 5) , Iron (FE) Bias = 9 , which is the highest reject setting. This completely eliminates Corona crown bottlecaps and tent stakes which are eveywhere! Modelo caps may show an ID since they are wrapped in Aluminum foil. My testing is conclusive that this does not hurt high tone signal ID or depth. Best of luck !🍀☠️💍🏖

Hello to Japan 🤠. No leaks or other issues on the Equinox 900. My local Florida shop has no reports of leaks. It was in the ocean or surf every day and hosed down every day for the last 4 months. Even when used on land in dirt I hose wash it thoroughly. No problems. I think it is the best detector all around. DP tones is a big part of it's capability. Good luck ! 🍀🏝☠️⛱️💍

I hear ya 👍 but the 900 and the 800 (as well as the Simplex) have all been washed this way for years with zero problems. It is low pressure water even though it may appear to be strong. Nowhere on the islands has good water pressure. Best to go easy spraying into the speaker. Ive washed the 900 off about 400+ times. The salt and crud that stays on is very sticky. It doesn't come off easily. Sometimes I use mild soap. Good luck🍀👍💍🏖

Hey, its on the sunny, salty, sandy sea every day without a problem or leak. 🏝😎👍 Even when it isn't submerged it gets washed off with the garden hose every day. I always cover the charging port and connectors with Blue 3M tape for protection. No reason to abuse it unneccisarily. The local beach detector shop has not had any reported leaks.

Thanks . I've lived near Herrington 50 years. Laurel Lake has similar turnover issues because it is so deep. 90% of the water in the 2 lakes is toxic with Hydrogen Sulfide and no oxygen.

The computer chip in the 900 is so fast it usually compensates except for black magnetite sand.

OK. Since the 800 and 900 both have 40khz mode, that's what finds the gold chains. The Multi setting Beach Mode 2 uses will favor high frequencies like 40khz. A single link in the chain is what a machine reacts to. The size of the link determines if the chain can be detected. So select Beach 2 mode. The first thing you have to do is be sure to go into (Notch) Accept-Reject and make sure you are Accepting ID 1 and 2. Gold Chains will often be these low numbers. You can toggle "all metal" with the horse shoe if you want. I'd start with this: Beach 2 mode Noise Cancel - run it Auto by selecting it and tapping the Check Mark button. Then manually adjust Noise Cancel number on a test chain to see what setting really works best. Ground Balance 0 is OK on your sand or Auto if in the water or dry Threshold 0, it's simulated anyway Target Tone must be DP for best results!! Never bother with the other tones unless you are just doing something like shallow coin shooting. Accept all IDs above 0. Recovery speed 5 or 6. Do not vary this. The 900 corrects for it as you slow down anyway. Sensitivity from 22 to 28. I always run 28 in dry sand for depth. Usually run 22 underwater since I can't scoop deeper. Yes, when I want maximum depth (which I need because 100 other detectors have hit that park beach) I run Sensitivity 28 and ignore the chatter. I run sensitivity 22 when in the water since I can't dig deeper than 15" (zero chatter). That beach has nearby Coast Guard and FD radio towers. When after shallow fresh drops on paths, showers etc I run 15. Alternately you can switch to a single frequency mode and run 40khz with no chatter. Best of luck 🍀!

Hello! 🤠 Be certain the cables for the coil and underwater headphones are securely connected. Check that no sand or debris is in the connectors that would damage the O-ring. Secure the headphone cord with the supplied velcro strain relief. Failure to do this can cause plastic to crack on the control box. Wrap the connections with 3M blue painters tape. Cover the magnetic charging connection with the blue tape. (The tape leaves no adhesive when removed.) You do not need to cover the speaker but you can seal it with tape if you want to. @@johnnyhiett had one beach not a thing storm next day shit never stopped digging unreal last year 22 targets all gold bank was 2meters high targets just leaked out off the chart low areas the same due to massive sand shift . Parks 50 to99 brilliant on one 2 dollar coins on your silver split tones on 2 or 3 types of silver can help then go to all metal on same grounds ya could get a big surprise.

Great questions! I only use Auto GB on Florida white sand beaches and underwater. The change in that sand is primarily salt water content and density. Where I hunt there is little trash to confuse the Auto. I only manual GB when relic hunting in mineralized sedimentary derived soils. High in Aluminum and Iron. Like the Nokta Simplex 0 GB is a very functional setting because the fast CPU in these new machines compensates for GB whether you turn on Auto GB or not. Best of Luck 🍀!

Yes, the Equinox 900 or 800 will detect fine gold chains in salt water. 900 has a better, faster processor and 100 target IDs to aid in this. A fine gold chain will ID as a VERY low number. So you should test some chains and be sure they arent filtered out. The deal is you are detecting the clasp or individual links in the chain. The links are RF reflectors and are not electrically connected as one thing. The best test I've seen in this was 5 yrs ago for the 800. Done by DetectorComparisons channel. I hear ya about the notch. 🙂 I've owned a metal detector since 1967 ☠️ I explained that I only had a hour to hunt, so no time to waste on pulltabs. At this particular beach a 29-30 ring is a small mans 10k band. Real ratio about 1 ring to 200 pulltabs.
