Cool! Good stuff. Great video. I only build small military dioramas, but I have SO MUCH RESPECT for railroad modelers! I can't imagine the ambition it takes to embark on a project THIS BIG! I always watch railroad model videos because there's so much to learn from you guys.

That was a much larger project than I thought it would be. I'm thrilled to see this level of effort in restoration. It's so worth it. Hopefully the finished project is highly successful, receives public recognition, and sparks support for more restorations. Thanks for great video!

Model Train Folks are the only one's besides Me that Can See Really Good. You can tell these days, especially on the road! They See Best or Better! Great Detail! And when the trains elephant bump down the Turnpike, you can be sure!

Yes I like your set too. The only problem I have now is they sell a bunch of little things that you can buy by them selfs. Other then that I have no problems with the tools. I do have some odd tools. But most of my tools are craftsman and sk. I know what you mean girl. They last for ever& ever !!!!!❤❤❤❤

I made my own great mountains out of rolled up chunks of newspaper rolled them all up little masking tape to tape my shape together and then plaster cloth butter being butter boom... To me a lot easier and buying all them cardboard strips to each his own right .

As a Louisiana native and have lived in Baton Rouge twice in my life, I can comment on La cane growing. Sugar cane is grown in rows similar to corn. It is planted and cultivated in a 4-year span. During harvesting the field was burned which does not harm the sugar stalk or sugar content. The plants were cut with machetes a few inches above the ground. The stalks were loaded onto wagons and taken to a reload where the stalks were transferred to rail cars or highway trailers for the trip to the mill where the stalks were unloaded, crushed for the juice, and the juice was processed into raw sugar. Each field is grown for 3 years then plowed up and left to fallow or rest for a year before being replanted. The cane will sprout from the stubs for the next year's crop. In the early years, there were many plantation lines that used portable track panels in the fields and more or less permanent tracks to bring the cane to the mill. Raw or brown sugar was then shipped by a common carrier to a refinery for bleaching and grinding. Most of these lines were 3-foot gauge with a few using 2-foot gauge or 30-inch gauge. Because of many very serious accidents on the state highways from decrepit trucks and trailers, their use was outlawed around the 1990s, and the accident numbers dropped while the sides of the highways were not as fouled with strewn cane falling off the trucks. This time of harvest is called a "campaign" from late September into January because once started it does not stop. Because most of the land used for cane production is low-lying, it is also very flat with low ditches along the sides. Check out "Down Among the Sugar Cane" if you can find a copy. The LSU extension service has devised machinery to plant and harvest cane without having to burn the fields. Another good book about sugar cane railroads is the one about Hawaii's railroads.

Jim, I loved your video and am sharing it with the other model railroaders here on Kauai, Hawaii. It has some good techniques we can use in modeling Hawaiian sugar cane plantations & operations. The Grove Farm Museum here on Kauai still has a large collection of steam locomotives used in sugar plantation work. Although not specifically mentioned in your video, a couple of the historic sugar mill photos in the video look an awful lot like a couple of specific mills here in Hawaii? Tom Knapp

Queensland in Australia has really cool sugar cane locomotives (now diesel) that are narrow-gauge. Rolling stock includes sugar cane wagons, open wagons, vans, open-air coaches and radio-controlled brake wagons. Franna cranes are used to lift derailed engines and wagons.

One thing I've found works real well( and I've seen very few people do) for carving styrofoam to make the edges and faces look more irregular and thus more realistic. Is to simply drag a drywall saw along the faces because drywall saws ( especially old well used ones) have teeth of different sizes etc so it makes a more irregular rocky face
