What does that swipe do/tell you about the paint? I’ve been curious about this for a while 😊
Where could I get these spatula
Very beautiful Do you sell them?
I do! I’ll reopen my shop again soon! 😊
11:52 Gloss meter. How did I miss that? Oh, that's right. I'm painting off to the side here, and when I "encounter issues" I hyper focus on those same issues. But I was here. Very strange that attention span stuff. I have to watch the videos two or three times. I wonder how the gloss meter measures color shifting/duo tone paints?
My guess, but I’ll try it for you, is that it only reads the reflection. So no matter the color shift, the “shimmer” would be what it sees
I have send you an Instagram message. Need your postal adress? 😊
I really enjoyed this live stream, even though I couldn’t watch live. I love to see all of the earth pigments from all over the world! The green looks like a green umber, the yellow looks like a yellow ochre wet and raw Sienna dry, and the red looks like English red wet and Venetian red dry. Thank you for making all 3 even though you were tired.
Thank you for watching!
The transformation in color as you grind the paint is amazing. It's not as extreme as with lapis lazuli, but still beautiful. Why does this particular pigment not have an ID number? Is it just so new that it hasn't been added to the database?
One of your best videos! Great soundtrack!!’ 🎉
🙏
I always use artist quality paints. I use pans when I travel and tubes at home.
I have never been all that big on pink (I keep a couple in my pallet for mixing fun purples), but I just can't help but love potter's pink for it's earthiness! I actually used it by itself for a background of a Luna moth painting I did once. I played around with the granulation and managed to make it look like the insect had been mounted on a velvet background! Sort of, anyway.
1. It's a lovely earthy pink. 2. Why hasn't Potter's Pink been in acrylic or oil paint for yet? 🤔
Oh that’s a good one! 🧐
Aww, it's gorgeous! I can see why it's endured through the ages
Thank you, potters pink is such a lovely, subtle granulating pigment and makes interesting mixes, one of my favourites.⭐
My one true love, Potters Pink! I love any dusty color but this one stole my heart the first time we met. It's beautiful straight up but it's my favorite mixing pigment for granulation and color separation.
This is my favorite pink color! It is earthy, dusty, natural, and reminds me of terra cotta pots and tea roses. So beautiful.
First!
Охра.
That means ochre right?
Nice 🥰
This was great!
Imagine being a very rich and important figure in egypt, you live a good life maybe even get eternalized in paintings. But you wanna make sure to get the best afterlife possible, so you pay for your own mummyfication after death. All goes well: you die, get mummyfied and laid to rest alongside other cool dudes, you get to chill with the once powerfull and mighty people for a couple of millenia, then you see how they vanish. One after the other gets turned into a fine powder. Some ptolemean schizzo is yapping about the curse of the mummy, mummyrot, mummies being used as fuel by fast and big metal snakes on two paralell lines and the robot vs the aztec mummy? while he is snorting some of the powder of course. You see things like this, gifts from above, dumb shit like this aint unseen enough. And you think to yourself: We aRe aBandoNed by gOds.
In a way… for those who used the powder/pigment for art. The mummified is still eternalized in paintings. Probably not what they had in mind, I’m aware..
@@dirtyblueshop provably not
Apart from the awesome videos I thoroughly appreciate your musical choices 🤌🏻
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! 😊
So satisfying :)
Still the only pigment I feel is a MUST in any pallet! And it's one of the cheapest ones so no reason not to. Now, there are better blues fort mixing vibrant purples ...... But as a blue or as a mixer for darks, it's the best!
This was so nice to watch! Thanks Laurens. I ❤ green earth. I use it to add granulation to non granulating greens and its low tinting strength means the original green does not change that much. Your mix is so creamy and soft.
Thank you so much!
that's a lot of blue powder
There’s more of it… Shall I do a, bucket and boxes full of PB29 video ? 😅

I've haven't had a chance to view this video until today. Speaking of Mayan colors... the first hand made (bought from Dirty Blue) was your Mayan Red (It's now my standard reference from which I judge all other paints). And my first homemade was Mayan Blue Dark PB82, which is a different shade of PB82 that I haven't seen anywhere else. So I don't know whether I should use it up now, or save it because I'll never be able to get it again. Oh, and I used Kremer's pre-made mix. I "primed" my glass panel with 400 Grit or is there a metric unit of measure? Is that too fine or too course? I didn't seem to have problems mulling.
Oh if that’s your reference I should send you the other Mayan red too! Is there a way of sharing a picture of that PB82 with me? You made me curious! 400 grit is perfect. I sometimes even used a mix of 400 and 800 for something finer. If it works, don’t change it 😉
@@dirtyblueshop Done. I sent it to your gmail account. I think. Uhm. Yeah, your shop gmail account.
Hello!, what is the liquid used on the video?
It’s a gum Arabic solution with glycerin and honey
LIve was great, thanks a lot, and i forgot to ask if u could upload a short or something to compare the unrewetable pans and the new batch to compare them. Or maybe show them next week
Thank you! I’ll have a look when the layer in the new pans is dry
Could you send me a DM on insta?
@@dirtyblueshop I just followed you
56:32 "Tyrian purple can't be used as a pigment." I didn't know that. I learned something new already. How much paint can that 1 gram of purpurissum make? One or two dot pans?
Oof that’s a good question … I think one generous one?
Where is everyone chatting please
Oh I’m so sorry, that was during the live. Looking at your first comment you just missed it. I’ll be live next Wednesday again!
I have my own still to make my own distilled water as well as other liquids lol shh you never know who is listening

Video looks great here in the U.K.
Going to make a batch of Kamala pigment PNo2 tomorrow but first I need to make some gumarabic binder
awesome! let me know if I can help you with anything!
Sound is great
Hi everyone
Hello, missed the live, dammit!!!!!! xD Summer was great, tons of rest and procastination xD Been a week in north Spain, Cantabria, in June to run away from heat, it was lovely. How about you, "just" the studio move? Also gathered a couple of questions Pg18 (viridian from kremer) PBr7 Brunt and natural umber the three of them are hard / weird to rewet. Ive been looking online and only could find a post over wetcanvas. Long story short, these pigments react with gumarabic in a way that wont rewet like "regular" pigments, and the guy recommend a recipe with dextrine instead of gum arabic Do you have some intel about this topic? do you own these pigments? my umbers are from Lienzos levante, spanish brand, but id say its the same if u own kremers or whatever brand. Also... i made gum arabic from pwder and it turned really dark overtime (didnt keep it in fridge) it probabbly developed a fungus too (like an oily film on the surface) despite of clove esesnce in it, so tossed it... Is it good it turns darker? is it just oxidation? should i toss it or keep using it (with no fungus on it, i mean)? Does the film im calling fungus just a deemulsification (hope i wrote it right xD)? i know its hard without pictures xD Probably too many questions... Im sorry xD Most of them came to me in early June or so. Ur the only one i found doing this content actively in youtube so... i apologize for the probably future questions. One more xDDDDD I did the frosting or polishing with carborundum u recommended in a video... and realized some pigments are stubborn and wont let me clean them, like PY150 indian yellow imitation or pr101 red oxide. Is there any trick or method to not spend 1 hour cleaning with water and tissue paper? ANd how often should i rep9olish the glass? Again sorry, and thank you in advance.
Better luck next time... also I will announce my next live a bit more in advance, although I'm thinking it'll be Wednesday evenings (21:00 or 9pm gmt+1) weekly. Just the studio for me indeed! Thanks for the questions... let me have a look About the hard to rewet earth pigments and PG18, that's a thing that's common for those pigments. I wouldn't use dextrine though.. It's used as a bulk agent (by large companies that also use fillers/brighteners). I've had good experiences with Schmincke PG18 in this regard. The binder that turns dark is something I've never had. When I let it stand for a while, it only gets more transparent because of the substances that sink to the bottom. I always shake those in again since the binder really works for me. I don't know if it won't without the pure clarity, but I like it natural. I barely rework the slab. Working with natural materials does the job for me too. The carborundum I used is quite fine but yes, the pigments you mention do tend to stick around a bit longer than others. Just using a lot of water works for me though. Maybe use an old piece of cloth that more absorbent? I'm happy to answer any question so don't worry about it! Sorry that I couldn't do it sooner!
@@dirtyblueshop Thanks a lot for your answer. Checking my gum arabic, its pwdered and it says for technichal uses, not suitable for food or cosmetics, that may be the thing? i doubt it though. hope to see you on wednesday. regards
@rydergg_ doubt it too.. you used distilled water?
@@dirtyblueshop Ye, distillled water, honey, glycerin, ox gall and clove essential oil. If u look for daler rowney gum arabic, there are some pictures wqhere it is dark like beer glass. It truend from clear / pale yellowish to taht. Also sterilized the container with bleach lots of water to clear it and cleaning alcohol then rinse again with water.
From what I've read genuine mummy brown contains arsenic used in the mummification process. So don't eat it. Also... don't eat it. 😄 I would be interested in what resins can be detected in it. I suspect a lot of color comes from the resin and that there's very little actual mummy if any at all in it. An ancient gimmick to sell paint wouldn't surprise me at all. The color looks like an iron oxide and a lot like raw umber as you said.
I just wanted to say hello and congratulations! It’s 2 AM in Seattle and I’m going back to sleep now. I’ll watch the rerun
Thank you so much!!! But.. Go back to sleep Mark 😅🙏
