I was wrong, they are air brakes! A friend of my dad's had a 32 white and it had vacuum brakes.

Dad may be correct. Just seems to need to run a bit to clear up. Hooked to the alternator instead of a battery post is not good for starting.

Beavis and Butt-Head! The carburetor float needs adjusting to spec, the timing and air-fuel mixture are off, (The adjustable screw on your carburetor, 1 3/4 to 2 1/4 turns). The chain and pulleys on your PTO, wench and lift are seized and need lubrication. You test their operation without a load after you've lubricated the parts to see if they are safe and mechanically viable to use Professionally. Doing it the dim-witted way is a goood way to destroy its parts and hurt yourselves.

Lol, You don't wear off the rust on brake drums with the brakes to get them operable. You wire brush it off with a power tool. And you should have took the front hubs off, cleaned, de-rusted, and inspected All the parts, then applied a rust preventing primer. You can disassemble the suspension leaf springs too to de-rust and paint prime them, and the frame, and the . . . rest of the truck. A good mechanic is thorough, is not lazy or impatient. Quality work ensures the safety of the driver and the public who shares the road they drive on. The DOT requires mechaically proficient brakes on a mechanically viable truck before the Truck can go down the road. The timing and air-fuel mixture is out of adjustment on the engine. If that has a 3-speed auxiliary you split shift the 2nd and 3rd auxiliary gears into your main shift pattern. That is why your engine bogged down when you were shifting. 1 main - 1 auxiliar is your heavy pull gear. Unloaded you start in 1:2, to 1:3, to 2:2, to 2:3, 3:2 to 3:3, 4:2 to 4:3, 5:2 to 5:3. The clutch is only needed start moving, and for reverse. Speed shift he rest. When shifting up you feather rpm down from your last gear until the gears) slip in. When gearing down you feather the rpms up until the gear(s) slip in. When you go from 1:3 to 2:2, you pull the main out of 1, shift aux from 3 to 2, then the main into 2. Now that was some shameful work leaving everything full of crusty rust. I use a wire wheel attachment on a grinder and a drill to knock the rust off old cruddy parts then paint them with black primer to prevent them rusting, and rub grease on moving parts and pivot points

You would do the engine a great favor by changing the oil, flushing the oil filters after the first startup. Put water in the radiator before you run it hot.

I can't understand why you ran it with watered down oil. Common sense tells you it washes out the crank bearings and wears them down quickly.

I use CLR drain cleaner to flush systems out. It works great. First dose run truck and let it sit overnight. Then flush a couple times the next day.

It's got a "parade" gear! You can haul big floats at walking speed and never exceed an idle! Would be nice to get the service brakes working. Change the oil!

cool truck! the more so i wonder why you guys dont lube up the cylinder walls and check oil level before turning it over! The same goes for disconnecting the fuel line to prevent that old crap from being pumped into the carburetor! you guys are unbelievable! you seriously start that motor with that watery crap!
