    "Brilliant video, I've never seen it before. Jamie, if you're interested in my opinion, I believe everything was executed as needed for that particular audience at that time, and they surely enjoyed your performance and took as much as they could in that moment. You can never step into the same river twice. Today, you ask questions and we do it with you) before the story; yesterday, we made the story more interactive by narrating it with the audience, generating new ideas. Tomorrow, there may be questions afterwards or perhaps no questions at all, just the story. Okay, I'm back from this philosophical cloud. Thank you, Jamie, for teaching us the best narrative techniques that work perfectly every time, now and then." P. S. What I like most of all in such videos and try to bring it to my speech is teaching students the rythm of the English sentence " to let the shopkeeper know that a customer enter the shop "❤

    The potential for language, engagement, valid meaning, enjoyment, embarrassment, and memory consolidation is as subtle and evocative as it is bold and powerful (not to mention empowering)...Such a seemingly simple practice while also possessing such profound meaning with useful and easily attainable benefits for everyone involved - from the learners to the teacher! Jamie, you are amazing! I loved loved the term “ grammar blindness” and I will steal this if you do not mind- crediting you of course. I totally agree “ One size never fits all”. Yes, reacting differently to the same story,noticing different details, and drawing different conclusions are so scientifically normal but expecting fixed structures and the target grammar are unfortunately common among language teachers. Jamie, I met you in a conference in Liverpool years ago and since then I am always impressed by your perspective and storytelling skills 👏Thank you for sharing them.

    Back at university, I had a fantastic teacher whose teacher talk I enjoyed immensely and learned a great deal from her command of English. However, many students would complain about her TTT. I always found that rather unfair, as she brought so much of her bright personality into classroom, I did enjoy that, so I totally agree with your point.

    Hi. What's the craic? Could you please clarify a wee point in yer lesson? Is John's story a prompt for students to continue the bad-good chain of event, or is it an example of what kids can do from scratch? Cheers

    • @JamieKeddie
      @JamieKeddie 3 місяці тому

      Hey Luca. It's really intended as a model for your students so that they can create their own (i.e. not a prompt). In the lesson plan, I suggest that you draw a picture of a character on the board, tell students that they have recently experienced some misfortune in their life, elicit possibilities and then get students to choose one of those pieces of bad fortune and develop the chain as per the (so that is the prompt). Does that make sense?

      Aye, sure. Cheers, Jamie. I happend to be covering a colleague a couple of days ago, so, being a class I hadnae met before, I told them the "Teeth" story (you know, the one about the two old friends who were fishing on a lake...). The kids (14ish years old) absolutely loved the activity and when the bell went off, a couple of lassies asked me whether there was the least chance I could be their teachers next school year... Quite a success... Ps. Jamie, I cannae really put my finger on your accent. Which part of bonnie Scotland are you from?
