I’m a legal secretary looking to change careers and I’m interested in UW. Can you recommend any resources? Should I just begin applying to listings on major job boards? Directly to carriers in their portals or reach out to recruiters on LinkedIn? Any pointers to nail an interview or things to expect? I realize you are much further in your career but not starting as an undergrad has me a little thrown.

I love your videos! I was so happy to see your video today! I just wanted to let you know that it’s completely normal for you to feel stressed and overwhelmed. You have a whole career and you are an amazing mom to 4 beautiful girls! You are a superwoman! I think your manager’s advice to take care of yourself is so helpful. Make sure you are taking care of yourself personally as well because you deserve a mental break. Even if it’s 20-30 minutes at night when the babies go to bed. Keep being great and don’t work too hard. Make hubby take some work off your plate because you are doing more than enough ❤ I forgot to add, it’s okay to get frustrated and to get angry sometimes. If you need a few minutes to talk to yourself in the car or scream when the babies aren’t around, it’s totally normal. A good stress reliever for me is walking. If you are able, a walking pad with a standing desk is a great investment for working at home and getting some steps in. I pray you are able to get some more support throughout the days so you can relax on your lunch breaks more often. You deserve it!

I just found your page on today ironically the day I am fighting something at work! The other young lady is right don’t be loyal to these jobs because they don’t care about you! Q: How do you get into underwriting?

It could be the opportunity of a lifetime. I wouldn't automatically say no. I realize this was posted almost 2 weeks ago. If they're really interested in you, they can wait. Ask them to cover all or a portion of the 6 weeks leave. If they really want you, they'll do it. Also compare the entire benefits package. How much are they matching for the 401k, profit sharing, employee stock purchase plan if applicable, actual details of the health insurance benefits, pto & the approval of the time off, how have their bonuses and raises been over the last 5 years - this is likely a worst case scenario for you, flexibility, oh and most importantly Pension especially since you're at 3 years currently. Compare the 5 gear incentive as well. It may be better overall. I look at the next 3-5 years instead of 1 year. Also consider layoffs.

Are you a financial underwriter or an insurance underwriter? Your comment says financial but I see comments regarding insurance. Yes an insurance company can be & of usually considered a financial institution but they're also 2 different roles underwriting different things. I see that you're in work comp.

I work in Workers Compensation and so many of my colleagues have told me that the only way to make great money is to “job hop.” I think they’re right. I love this company but I’ve been loyal and stayed here, while my colleagues have already gone elsewhere and come back and they’re now making much more than me. 😫 I’d love to be on the underwriting side of this business. I deal directly with insureds and boy oh boy, some of these policies need not be renewed.

Thanks sis! So glad I found your video. I’m an insurance agent myself. So close to 6 figures I could kiss it. I have been at my job only a year. I will def hit it within 5… if I’m at 120-130k by that time I definitely may just sit still.. But In this economy and a single mom of 3 that don’t even seem like enough. I will be doing my research on becoming an underwriter and seeing if it’s worth something I would be interested in ❤ just a year ago, I had an eviction and repossession on the same day. I feel like the reason talking about money has become taboo is because employers, over time, has discouraged it as being something unprofessional to discuss. In actuality, they just don’t want employees to see just how great the disparities are in pay among their coworkers. Also, socially people don’t like talking about their salary because of fear of judgement regardless of if it’s it lower or higher. Praying you receive all the blessings ❤❤❤
