Bob Paulinski, Master of Wine
United States
Приєднався 2 кві 2021
The place for all things wine. Learn about wine in an unpretentious way. Think wine education, tastings (some blind), interviews and cool random facts, shopping for wine values, etc. Often, I'll be somewhere in a vineyard, winery or cellar. The first video on this channel was posted in late 2022.
I've spent 40+ years in the wine trade. I'm one of just over 400 Masters of Wine in the world. For years, I had owned a specialty wine store, then spent two decades in corporate leadership roles in the US and Australia. I travel often for work, enjoyment, to learn and to experience the wine world. I've judged at wine competitions on five continents, along with remaining active in the MW educational program. I’m currently a partner in a wine import company.

A wine tasting of each is included in the back half of the video. The focus is on tried and true, classic wines that display a sense of place. The wines were purchased at Total Wine, but the wines are available through other stores, including oth...
8 WINES to Buy Now at Costco
Переглядів 70 тис.14 днів тому
In this video, Bob Paulinski Master of Wine searches out the best wine values at Costco, along with a wine tasting and discussion of each. A number of Kirkland Signature wines are tasted. My intent was to search out the best values from classic regions that also have a good level of availability. I went with eight wines that caught my attention. They represent five different countries, with pri...

I'll have to add the Craggy Range SB and Emilio Moro to my shopping list as I have tried (and enjoyed both Marlborough and Sancerre-styles) and am looking for a comparative counterpart for my 2015 La Rioja Alta Ardanza Reserva. My favorite 5 wines in 2024 that I paid <$30 were: 2019 Luca Old Vines Malbec 2021 Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2022 Donnhoff Tonschiefer Dry Slate Riesling 2022 Chateau Minuty "M" Rose 2022 Brundlmayer Riesling Terrassen Kamptal
I really do think you made excellent choices! 🤙🤙🤙but what‘s missing? - german Riesling - Gewürztraminer d‘Alsace - Grüner Veltliner, Austria - Sangiivese, Tuscany - Cotes-du-Rhone - a Merlot - a red Bordeaux - a white Bordeaux
Thanks for commenting. Keeping it to five wines meant a lot of great options didn’t make the cut! That said, you’ve got me thinking. This could be a Gruner V sort of night!
I like your selections
Thanks! 🍷
On the hunt for Emilio Moro! Merry Christmas!
I hope you find it! BTW, I bought my bottle at Total Wine. They have several bottlings, the one in my video is a great bargain! Merry Christmas! 🍷
Omg thats so funny. I had two barberas the other night. The vietti and a reva (d’alba) the vietti was outstanding i had to go get 4 more
Haha! Small world! 🍷
4,000 tastings, you're lucky to be vertical. LOL, J/K. Another great video, nice camera work and great info. I'll be stretching my normal price point a bit and be on the look out for the Barbera d'Asti and Cabernet Sauvignon, thanks for pointing them out. Thanks for all you share with YT, I hope the holiday season is great for you.
Tasting 4000+ is not the same as drinking 4000+! 😂 Thanks for the nice comment. The Barbera and Cab all both excellent for the money. Best wishes for the holidays, along with a happy, healthy 2025. 🍷
Bob, I love your content because you recommend outstanding wines that the average consumer can buy so that they can drink at table. Before watching this video, I suffered through 2 of your competitors videos showcasing the best wines of 2024. What pretense , these wines are for the elite , none of those wines could be enjoyed by the average consumer. The wines featured were all over $100. Kudos to you for offering great values that punch north of mediocrity.
I very much appreciate your comment. The wine world is heaped with outstanding values. It’s a matter of knowing where to look. It doesn’t cost $100+ to experience artisan wines that show a sense of place. BTW, I’ve had plenty of $100+ wines that were thoroughly disappointing. Cheers! 🍷
Have you tried the Wente Southern Hills Cab? It's about $10 cheaper than the Wetmore version and still pretty darn good for the price.
I have, it’s also good, but a little less weighty than the Wetmore. 🍷
@@bobpaulinskimasterofwine Nice. Maybe I'll splurge one day and try the Wetmore.
Thanks for the video, and all the great content this year Bob. Can't always find every wine here in the UK, but the insights are appreciated all the same. (One minor techy point, it would be good if you could turn up the audio levels on your videos. Coming to you from a Konstantin Baum vid I had to really strain to hear (too lazy to turn up my volume :-) ). Interestingly the audio levels improved at around the 12 minute mark.)
I appreciate your comments. I try to focus on wines that a broad audience can find. As for the sound, very odd, the levels are set as always. I’ll raise it up a notch on future videos. Cheers. 🍷
Spot on selections with the Wente CS a bit of a surprise but worth trying. Craggy Range SB is a never miss no brainer. Have had Cru Beaujolais at 15 years old with little if any fade just more pinote. Love the grapevine tattoo on your arm. Talk about identity. Need a little more sound volume?
Hi John, the Wente was a surprise for me as well. Craggy Range 👍 I always cellar away top Cru Beaujolais. Wonderful wines. As for the tattoo, it’s from a visit to Kuala Lumpur, my home away from home. The sound volume, it’s set at the same levels as my other videos, but I’ll lift it a bit in future videos. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers. 🍷
Fantastic effort and video, have a blessed holidays and even better new year!
Thank you for the kind message. Happy holidays and best wishes for a happy, healthy 2025. 🍷
Happy Holidays Bob! Great top list. Thank you for all your information and posts! Cheers.
Hi Carl, happy holidays and best wishes for 2025! Cheers. 🍷
Great video…now I gotta go shopping! To me, if anyone is interested in how different red wines can taste, try a Morgon Cru Beaujolais. Deliciously different from any other red wines.
Hi Dan, I’m glad you liked the video. Morgon, got to love it. 🍷
Hi Bob, Happy Holiday! Love your channel. Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc is one of my favorite. Tried 2021 last year, it was good. Picked few bottles 2022 last month at Costco, it's even better. Thank you for preparing wonderful contents.
Thank you for the very kind message. We’re aligned, the 22 is outstanding! Best wishes for the holidays and a happy, healthy 2025.
I’m headed to Costco now and per the app they have. Not on this list but I’m also picking up some Kirkland Ribera del Duero Gran Reserva which for some reason only one Costco in my area has.
@@eddiefalcon8316 I’ve not seen the Kirkland Ribera del Duero.
@@bobpaulinskimasterofwine Hey Bob. I did get the Craggy range. As for the Kirkland Ribera del Duero I suspect it must be somewhere but around the south Florida area there is only one Costco that shows it. I bought 4 to enjoy in the future. Lastly I know Livermore. Went to a wedding there years ago.
I love the Morgon!!! I think I purchased 6 bottles of it and have 3-4 left. I’m hoping to keep one around for 3-4 more years and see how it turns out.
Me too! It’ll age well, the change can be rather pronounced. Fun wines to cellar away. 🍷
Is it me or is the audio gain really low
The settings are the same as usual. Just rechecked it, seems ok.
Merry Christmas and happy new year Bob!
Thank you! And Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy, healthy new year.

Emperors new clothes 🤔🤔🤔
😂
With the Holidays upon us, Trader Joe’s has their once-a-year wines that might be interesting to review. Diamond and Platinum Reserve red wines.
Yes, some are very good. 👍
I am sitting here in Sweden drinking a Spanish white wine called Polvorete, watching this video. Paused the video to refill my glass and then I realized that the red wine you just recommended was by the same producer, Emilio Moro. 😄
Crazy coincidence! 😂
TJ’s sells a decent Nero D’Avola for $8.00 that is perfect for anyone who wants to explore without breaking the bank.
The southern Italian wines at TJs are generally quite good for not much money.
Can you show us your cork pile behind you? 😅
It’s a five gallon bucket of corks, nearly heaped to the top! 😂

Definitely
Love finding alternative regions/grapes. I just ordered some Riesling from Tasmania. Cheers!
I’m sure it’s from the NE corner of the island. Beauties!
I sure enjoy your Site. I live in Ione and go to Costco in Lodi. It's a smaller Costco and doesn't have many of the wines you review. Maybe Folsom has them. Can you please tell me which Costo you go to? Thanks!
I appreciate your comment. I go to either the Concord or Danville Costco. I hope you can find some of the wines. Cheers. 🍷
