Hi Dan, it sounds as if you have decided not to compete in the World Masters Championships. I hope you still get the opportunity to go watch some of the events, I am sure it will give you motivation to continue with your training.
Your center of gravity is way to much in the front. You need to get into a sort of sitting position and lean back. Hope that makes sence!
Thanks for the input! It makes sense, I just have to convince my body to do it!
@@grumpythrower239 wishing you best of luck.
thank you for your videos my friend; I enjoy watching them. I've just started throwing the hammer, I'm in the M60 class too from New Zealand. Your vids are great!
Thank you! Hammer throw is a quite fun challenge. I wish you good luck!
I love your name, grumpythrower haha
Good luck for the competition Dan, let us know how you get on.
Great to see you throwing discus again. I can understand why you were cautious but it is clear you have the potential there to throw much further when you feel ready to do so.
Yes, will progress slowly. Guess I could throw 30m standing still now, but no need to risk an injury.
Woohoo🎉🎉🎉🎉
Well Done Dan. Was the event just for Masters, or was it for other age groups as well?
Thanks! Was 17yr+. Different hammer groups, master athletes in one of them.
Is this beautiful throwing range attached to your home?
Hi, it belongs to the regional athletic organisation. My club is a member of that.
Good job!!, Im throwing in San Deigo next sat. first time in M70
Good luck!
Well done Dan. I had my first M60 discus competition of the year tonight and threw 32.71m. I was second in the M60 class behind my good friend Stuart Ryan who threw 48.64m to lead the British M60 rankings.
32.71 is good and likely better than I would throw today if I tried, but better not try due to my shoulder.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Rooting for u 🎉🎉🎉
Good luck in the competition Dan, let us know how you get on 👍
Well done Dan, that looked like a good consistent session. I think sticking with two turns is a sensible idea.
🎉🎉
YOU GOT THIS!!! IAM rooting for U
Hi Dan, I think the over rotation may be caused by the fact that you tend to turn with a very straight left leg, which pushes you back away from the hammer. I know at our age that keeping the legs bent is not easy 😀 Keep working at it, I can see how you have improved over the last year or so 👍
watched your videos while look for a better glove....try staying down on the ground when you throw...you are popping up...
I am also an M60 player like you. I'm sending you a message from Japan. I suspect you are accelerating as you raise the hammer. I think if you accelerate when you swing the hammer down, you'll be able to turn more smoothly. Let's continue to do our best together.
How many mettrs sir?
Not that long, about 32m. The goal is to rotate better, while not provoking my injured shoulder.
Ser ju bra ut, när är första tävlingen?
Troligen i juni.
There's that speedy Swedish warm up again! 😀
Yes, also extremely important with the warm-up, preventing injuries and gets the body in shape for the big throws! 🙃
Hola, pierdes el equilibrio debido a que tienes el centro de gravedad demasiado alto, es mejor si las rodillas las flexionas formando un angulo de unos 45 grados. Es encomiable el empeño que pones. Mucho ánimo.
Yes, I will try that, if I can.
Swedish athletes certainly warm up fast! 😂
🤣
Looking good! Be careful on that wet ring 🙂
You need to lower knees your throwing posture and more relax on hands. Hammer is throwing only with legs, spine and core muscles
Yes, lot to do there.
Good to see you back throwing again Dan👍
Haw many distance sir
Well done Dan, that looked like good progress with the 3 turns, you seemed to finish on balance on a quite a few of them which meant your delivery was good. I hope your health issues improve and you manage to get a few more outdoor sessions in before the Swedish Winter arrives!
Clearly a step forward. How did you do in the competition you mentioned earlier?
@@grumpythrower239 I competed about a month ago in the UK Masters athletics championships. I only did the M60 discus but there were 23 people entered. I did not throw as well as I had hoped but finished 15th. I hope to do better next year. One of my training partners competed in the European Masters Championships last week and won the M65 discus and the weight pentathlon.
@@paulyoung5393He did really well. But all of us have such different backgrounds etc , so it's hard to compete with the best. I doubt I will compete in WMA in Gothenburg, even if it is on the home field.
@@grumpythrower239 I competed in the world masters championships in Budapest in 2014 and Lyon in 2015. Most of the other throwers were better than me but everyone was very supportive and I really enjoyed the experience. Many throwers and multi-event athletes stay in the sport a long time simply because they love our sport so you are always going to be competing against very good athletes, but this makes it very enjoyable. I think you would enjoy competing in the World Championships in your home country next year.
👍
There were some better throws in that session Dan, like you said it, it was better than your last session. Keep working on it!
Yeah, lots of work to be done!
That looked like a tough session Dan. Just keep working on it. Break the full throw down into smaller steps and drill those until they become more natural. I am another M60 trying to learn this event, its not easy!
I think I master 2 turns decently. Just need plenty of throws with 3 turns...thinking of some details.
Good luck with your comp Dan
Thanks !
What do you mean M60? You look 50!
Thanks!
That looks like a decent stadium to throw at. Good luck for your competition.
Did look at the 5kg throws in slowmotion. I don't wait for the hammer to pass my right foot before starting the first turn, which usually leads to imbalance, as in this clip.
Changing from throwing the 7.26kg hammer (which you have done in training and competition recently) down to a 5kg and 4kg hammer will affect your timing and perhaps that's why you struggled a bit at the start of the session? You did seem to improve later in the session as you got more used to the weights again. I am competing in the M60 discus at the British Masters championships next weekend, there are 23 competitors in my event, its going to be a long competition!
Fantastic to hear that you are back on track for a competition! I will switch back to 7kg next weekend, preparing for a 7kg event 9 September.
The dreaded "hammer stuck in the net" 😀
Yeah, glad 3 times only this year. 😂
😂
Well done Dan, that is a decent throw with the 7.26Kg hammer.
Thanks! Hopefully I will be more consistent in the future.
Wow
Good luck for your competition, let us know how you get on.
No throws in the net, I think that is progress. Yes you are over rotating on some of the throws still, mainly on your first turn but you do seem to recover the throws on your second turns. I think your throws are getting more consistent.
Step one is to define the problem. Not entirely sure how I shall adjust it, without losing speed and length.
I tend to overrotate when I start to lean back. I compared with older throws, and when my back is straighter, then I put down the foot. Earlier.
I think you are right, you were over rotating on most of your first turns which means you generally will over rotate on the second turn as well. The lighter hammer moves faster and I guess you will turn quicker, which means you need to ground your right foot faster to avoid the over rotation. Hammer is not an easy event 🙂
Good I am filming the throws, quite easy to see it in the video.
Good attitude! Overcome and continue. At our age, just showing up is a victory!
Did already sign up for a new local competition in 2 weeks from now - it is with the 7.26kg hammer, but that did not stop me, Lol.
Those two throws looked quite decent, especially when you have been ill. With more time to recover you may surprise yourself at the championships. Good luck, do you best and remember to enjoy yourself !
Thanks, Paul! Those are ok, the first ones. Then I was tired, and could not keep the technique together. No big deal if not throwing far next weekend, there are other opportunities later on.
Much more consistent with two turns, a good session, well done!
Thanks, Paul!
The series of hammer throws looked much better than previous sessions, much more consistent with better first turns. Well done!
Yes, thanks! Now I have to continue to work on the speed.🏎️
I think the weight was better than the hammer in these throws. Maybe try and slow down your first turn in the hammer? Start slow and let the hammer accelerate.
Yes, it is always easier to control the weight. I will stick to 2-rotations before the national championships in a few weeks, I will not be able to improve 3-rotations before in any meaningful way.
