I tell ya, that's both the pro and con of FFXI! It's so damn good, yet so damn relaxing, I find myself falling asleep on most of the Zone's OSTs lol.

This game helped me get tru the worst part of my marriage. It was bad. I used to escape into Vanadeil... Don't worry. Everything is super great now ❤

The soothing tune of just starting your adventure not knowing the literal Hell that awaited in the endgame. lol

I'm lucky I got to play this when I did. No MMO has ever had a playerbase as wholesome and kind as this one. The difficulty bred compassion and camaraderie.

Fun fact: In FFXIV right now there is a portal that will take you to lower jeuno, and this music started playing in there when the XIV christmas event started today.

Ffxiv just got access to lower jeuno and now I get to idle away my time listening to ffxi music again Heres hoping we get this rendition for a few weeks!

Oh man..i miss FF11. These were good times! None of this stupid que up for dungeons, people flooding world chat with inappropriate topics or going from lv.1-20 in 2hrs. This grind was real! The soundtrack (specially raunfaur..) will always have a special place in my heart

Kumi Tanioka did great on FFXI, although i love her work on Crystal Chronicles, this will always be my favorite track of hers. Wish they brought her in for more tunes, i love the sorta magic she brings to the final fantasy series.

My journey started in Sandy back in 2007. A little late to the (party), no pun intended. I miss those days. There was something magical about Vana'd'iel, it can't be explained. Those who were there can't explain, and those not there wouldn't understand. Working your way slowly to lv75, learning your job's role in a party, collecting sub job items first go round, Ma'at fight being a rite of passage, colibri parties, skill up parties, man. It all ended for me March 31, 2016 when Square Enix dropped 360 support. I could fall right back into the gameplay today, 8 years later. I'd spend my first day rewriting pages of macros, maybe do some fishing, do some cooking, but I've lost access to my account. Every job was lv99 except for like 2-3. Fishing was 100, what a joy it was to finally hit that. Cooking 110. Man, I wanna play this game so bad. Monies are tight, can't afford a pc. Maybe one day. Long live Vana'd'iel!!!

JEJ hunting anyone?

Somehow there's more life in FFXI zones than there is in FFXIV zones. I don't think FFXIV knows how to capture ambience or atmosphere. Notice the moving clouds. You can hear wind on windy days. You can hear the water trickle. It's noticeable and part of the world. In FFXIV, the clouds are stagnant and you can't hear wind or water unless you explicitly try to. Even when turning off all other sounds except for ambience, the game is near silent when it comes to nature. I think this is a huge factor in why people miss FFXI's world. It had a feeling of being alive. Whereas FFXIV is more like a completely fabricated theme park of lifeless "life-like" regions. The music does wonders too. Naoshi Mizuta knew how to create ambient music. Soken is great, but it's like he doesn't know how to do ambience. He only knows bombastic, in your face music. There's no gentle subtlety to his music. Like I said, it's good music, but it doesn't have SOUL.

What a fun game, the epic music of every major city to the surrounding areas helped shape communities.

Going to sleep at 3am waking up at 12pm, no school, yelling to your mom to make you pancakes then immeditatly flag up for party. As your mom yells at you that the pancakes are ready, you get a tell <Party> <Do you need it?> 15 minutes goes by and your mom already knows your not coming to get your pancakes and she brings them to your room. 5-6 hours later you're hungry again, the party has just disbanded after amazing experience. You go take a shower and enjoy your dinner your mom has cooked. After eating and realxing you back to your computer and start browsing the auction house for new items and check if things has sold. You calculate how many stacks of silk thread or tree cuttings or spider webs you need to farm for your SH +1. You start looking which place is less crowded or has less RMT and decide where to farm next. You /anon and start farming, now is closing at 2-3 AM, you are feeling tired and go back to Jeuno AH to put items you farm to sell... Nothing will ever top FFXI, it's pretty much impossible.

i miss this game and all my friends i made along the way. nothing will ever fill this void. Pibe- Valefore

I wish they'd remaster this game as a standalone single player game per episodes. I would love to re-live the challenges of Promathia and Zilart. I miss this.
